My Friends

31Oct 08

Before we get started with the blog, I recently brought a new 360, because I don't trust Microsoft, after all, it failed on me twice, and I can finally try out Tomb Raider Underworld, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts N Bolts, and Mirror's Edge (a FFA with a lot of bright colors, unlike most FP games on the 360 and PS3) demos today.

IGN gives Quantum of Solace a 7.0. I played the demo on PC and it was ok. Finally, a movie game that didn't totally suck but could had been better. IGN said the campaign lasts 4 hours, that's too short, it's shorter than Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4's campaigns.

Anyways, my 10 personal favorite horror movies are:

10. Cloverfield

The Good: Superb acting, awesome special effects for a 30 million dollar budget, has suspense at times, you were introduced to the characters and got to know them, like them and care about them, the monster looked really weird and creepy. It's not long.

The Bad: The camera shaking may make you sick, but I didn't puke unlike some people. The characters made a few dumb desicions. The ending was lame.

The Conclusion: This movie rocked for a PG-13 horror movie, there are a few WTF moments(like that girl's head exploding) that were actually cool, and I felt sorry for the main characters that died, something that most horror movies need. To me, it was the 1st great movie of 2008 and one of the best for horror. Cloverfield 2 is coming, yes.

9. The Fly(Remake)

The Good: It's a very, very emotional movie about an experiment gone wrong, solid plot, the movie was engaging as the main 2 characters kept it alive, seeing the fly in action was scary

The Bad: Could had been scarier

The Conclusion: You really don't see horror movies like this anymore. The actors did a wonderful job here, the character development helped it a lot, and the ending is one of the saddest things I've seen in a horror movie. I actually felt sorry for that scientist as he turned into the fly on accident, it shouldn't had happen that way, excuse me, I got to cry right now, ok, never mind. The next remake will be in either 2009 or 2011, oh well, hopefully it's as good as this one.

8. Friday the 13th

The Good: Keeps you on the edge of your seat, awesome ending that will shock you, great gore scenes

The Bad: Teens could had been a little smarter

The Conclusion: Wow, as your watching it, you can feel the danger, its' like your actually being stalked, which made this movie memorable. Too bad some of it's sequels ended up sucking, and don't get me started on Jason X. The remake looks promising.

7. The Shining

The Good: Nice atmosphere, creepy scenes, seeing Jack going crazy is very scary

The Bad: Could had a faster pace, but it isn't much of a problem(though it's still a flaw)

The Conclusion: This movie, man, when you see Jack going psychotic, it's intense and worth while. Seeing it up to that part is worth it as well. This doesn't need a remake.

6. The Descent

The Good: Solid acting and plot, good gore, very intense and engaging once they're in the cave, shocking moments

The Bad: Acting isn't the best, neither is the plot

The Conclusion: We need more horror movies like this. Sure, the plot isn't very strong, but at least this movie does things that certain horror movies of today don't do: Actual horror. There's a sequel called The Descent 2 in 2009, yea!!!

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street

The Good: Awesome premise about being haunted in your nightmares, Freddy is bad***

The Bad: Needed better gore, but who cares, this movie rocks

The Conclusion: Another great horror movie with unnessacry sequels, this movie gave me nightmares(not really, but could had) and one of the most iconic villians in movie history. The remake will be good hopefully.

4. The Thing

The Good: Way too suspenseful, that Thing scared me, I don't know what that Thing is, really, I don't

The Bad: No women

The Conclusion: You know you have a fantastic horror movie when you don't even know what that Thing is. This movie is near flawless and you should see it to be scared by that Thing. The remake is coming in 2009, please don't screw that up.

3. Evil Dead

The Good: Virtually everything

The Bad: That one monster was annoying, but who cares

The Conclusion: This movie is a little underrated, it was overshadowed by it's lame sequels. Ok, the sequels weren't that bad, but not as good as this movie IMO. Rumor has it that there may be an Evil Dead 4, I hope it's true.

This could go either way with the last 2

2. Aliens

The Good: Every ****ing thing. Action, suspense, cool aliens, Ripley knows how to fight, special effects, I wasn't bored for not even 5 seconds.

The Bad: Some don't even call it a horror movie, they say it's more of an action movie, it still had a lot of suspense and horror, so they're wrong.

The Conclusion: This is one masterpiece that shouldn't be forgotten.

1. Alien

The Good: EVERYTHING!!!

The Bad: NONE!!!

The Conclusion: From the suspense, to the music, to the atmosphere, to the characters, and plenty more, this horror movie has it. It's perfect(IMO) and that chestbuster scene was easily the scariest thing I've seen. Just as scary was the alien that attacked people in ways that will haunt you and having you scared senseless. To me, this is the greatest horror movie of all time.

Happy Halloween everyone. I got lots of candy as well.

Aliens isn't a horror movie. Evil Dead, is more of spoof horror movie more than anything else.

loopy_101, Aliens is still listed in the horror genre, it does have horror and suspense. About Evil Dead was true, but look at the sequels, they're far more goofier and way more of a spoof than the 1st one.

Dude you need the originaly 1978 version of Halloween up there. Mike Myers is freaking scary! Also why the descent? That movie was so... it made no sense... but that is my opinion.
Other than that i love the list!!!

I haven't seen the 28 series, but I think they should definately be up there (unless you were avoiding zombie movies).

I'm downloading the QoS demo now.

Just goes to show the best scary movies are from the late 70's on through the 80's. I like your list a lot. The Shining, The Nightmare on Elm St, The Thing, Alien, Evil Dead, The Fly, and Friday the 13th. Those movies are in a lot of top 10's and for good reason!

Numbers 1,2,5,8, and 10 are good movies. Aliens is really good, its a science-fiction horror.

Sweet movies. Seems like the common theme in horror is BETTER ACTORS!

I'm shocked to find that none of the Japanese horrors are in here. They are way scarier and more shocking than most other horror movies. Plus 28 Days is missing. That was awesome. Eye gougingly awesome...

Decent is really scary, I watched it and OMG, I hate caves and I nearly had a heart attack. To make it worse I was going caving the next day. Great movie, still not really got what it was about tho.
