It's funny how it's likely that all my blog posts from now on will not be about TV, but my "real" life. There's TV life and real life for me. TV life consists of me watching stuff, but not really talking about it. Real life is everything else. But I digress...

I recently went to NY and ran into this crazy Italian festival called the Giglio. How is everyone doing? You guys better not be harrassing Danmod. Or Jaxiecracks. I'll get you!

check out this dope video of the Giglio feast, including Rocky theme song!

Hey everyone. Check out this polar bear that lives in a glass case in a small, old town called Port Costa. It's not too far from SF and it's definitely a weird place. There is a spooky hotel there that used to be a whorehouse and it's like 200 years old! I will be going back again soon (uh, not for "work"). Hope you all are doing well, sorry for not posting in forever. I really haven't had anything that interesting to talk about - until I saw this!

    Friends,

The time has come for me to take the next step in my career path. I want to let you all know that my last day here on TV, FilmSpot and MP3 as Community Manager will be Friday, 5/18. This decision was not an easy one to make, by any means, but I know it is the best one for me.

That said, words can not exactly convey how awesome of an overall experience this has been for me over the past couple of years: invaluable, challenging, exciting, impossible, successful, entertaining? Definitely all of those things...and more. This has never been "just a job" for me. In many ways, what I have been doing here is part of a way of life - you have no idea. But now what sticks out in my mind most are all of the very unique and cherished friendships that I have made (hopefully you all know who you are). I also want to give a holler to all of the more, um, 'obstinate' users I have encountered who have inadvertently taught me some very worthy lessons and helped me to further develop many important skills. All of this I will throw in my mental duffle bag, carry with me to my next destination, and unpack for use when the time comes. My next occupational home will be at YouTube. I hope you can find the time to visit me there at some point.

I want to give BIG PROPS to Danmod and Jaxiecracks, who will take care of everything you need from here on out and will continue to burn the community torch for these sites. Consider Danmod your main man now on TV. Jaxiecracks will continue to work in a more hybrid community role on TV, MP3 and FilmSpot.

Now it somehow seems right to end this message with some ridiculously cute picture of something. I really just can't help myself, is the thing. Hmmm, what should it be? Obviously, animals are where it's at when it comes to cuteness and have been a running (and overused) theme in my image posting history - which I am admittedly a little embarrassed about, since I am a grown up and all. Anyhow, I'll bet you're thinking that I can't come up with anything else to post now, huh?!

    Well, you were right.

Thanks for everything. I will miss you.

We've never 100% clarified what is/isn't acceptable to submit to the "User Submitted News" section of guides. Partly we were a bit vague purposely to see what trends or patterns in submissions would follow after implementing this. And the only solid stipulation we've had thus far is "no links to official network sites". Since this contribution has been available for a while, now's a good time to clarify.

Basically, all types of links which point to any reference site or fansite, or anything similar that has any type of valuable info. about the specific show/person, is allowed. This now includes submitting links to official network sites. We figure the more information made available the better. The whole point of TV.com is to be a great resource for television, right? As long as what you are submitting is a specific webpage that is dedicated/relevant to the guide you are adding the link to, then it's fine (i.e., links the show's official webpage, not the network homepage).

Look at Danmod in all of his young glory. I have a feeling that bunny did some bad things to him after this photo was taken. And that's why he is the way he is now.

Yea, I don't know him either, but check this out. This dude Justin decided to glue a camera to his head a week ago and leave it on 24/7 until...well until he's no longer "famous" for it, I would guess. If the video loads for you (http://www.justin.tv/), you will see Justin sleeping, eating, peeing, or just walking around. It's pretty boring, but somehow also fascinating. Humans are pretty predictable. We like to watch someone without them knowing about it, even if the person we are spying on isn't doing anything noteworthy. I am sure this was the message in the lightbulb above Justin's head on the day he decided to go through with this. Oh yea, you can also participate by live chatting below the video stream, or you can play a trick on Justin like reporting to the cops that there is a break-in happening in his apartment. Enough people have actually played that prank that SFPD now calls Justin first to confirm any incidents reported at his address.

We discovered an "interesting" problem this morning. Due to all this CP madness, a whole big list of users' retired editorships are now "back". This means some of you guys are not only "re-editor" of a show you had been retired from previously, but all submissions for these shows are showing up in the main submissions moderation queue as belonging to and editor (meaning staff leaves those for editors to handle), when they actually should be showing up tagged as editorless and for staff to moderate. The engineers know what's up and should be able to fix this today.

So FYI, there may be submissions of yours which are in the wrong queue and/or you may again be editor of a guide that you don't want, but once we fix this "unretire" situation and "re-retire" those editorships those 2 issues will be resolved. Just wanted to explain what's happening, as I am sure this is confusing when you log in today .

Well, as you know, CP stands for "Contribution Points" and we've been having some problems with them as of late. Here is an update from homeboy superstar developer cooncesean:

Due to a failing cron script (the code that calculates the contribution points every evening), the contribution points were either not being calculated correctly, or were not running at all.

This has been an ongoing issue for the past two weeks as we have been trying to debug the problem -- but please understand that the database that stores all of your uncalculated points is still perfectly intact and still holds all of your submissions.

We are currently in the process of re-calculating points and we should have points caught up to date by this evening.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your patience.

    -cooncesean

I know I already posted something about her on the site blog, but I wanted to say a few things about Drea here, too. Although I didn't know her as well as many of her real close friends here on the site did, whenever I got the chance to interact with her it was always a good time. She was such an awesome and "real" person and always made me laugh. I'm glad she made so many amazing friends around here who care for her deeply. And it's hard to believe that someone with such an upbeat and youthful attitude is no longer with us. It's somewhat mind-boggling, really. I can only think of her family now and what they must be going through.

As you know, staff has been working tirelessly all week on the blasted CP bug, specifically developer cooncesean - ten zillion cheers for him as he has seriously been working his bum off to fully resolve the problem! A fix was initially pushed out on 3/5 and subsequent fixes have been implemented each day since then. This one's a real doozy kids. The most current discussion on this is being redirected to this thread. Please check there for the latest tech. updates on this issue. Thanks.

Looks like the CP bug has finally been resolved. Everyone's points should be up to date now on all person guides! We have pushed the fix through and all looks good with this (again, this only affected some person guides and no show guides).

    (previous post from 3/5/07)

Just for reference, this is the bug which reared its ugly head on or around 1/7/07 and has affected contribution points on some person guides intermittently since then. Although submissions were accepted some users received no CPs on certain days, even though the script which tallies up all the points did run and staff has been able to see the points in the database this whole time. The points just weren't making it through to the display on the guide summaries. So, if you were affected by this bug and you submitted enough points to become editor of any person(s), once this script runs your editorship(s) will automatically kick in. This also means retirement for whomever may be the current editor and technically should not have been.

We're pushing a fix through within the next couple of hours. We will most likely NOT need to turn off user submissions during this time, but if it turns out we do then I will give you all the best heads up that I can. Again, this only affects *some* person guides and not show guides.

Congratulations (and apologies) to those of you who have been deserving of these editorships for the duration of this bug and will become editor of a person guide today! For those of you who basically got lucky and have been retaining an editorship which has belonged to someone else - sorry guys. Justice will now be served...

If your favorite TV star has some film appearances showing on their FilmSpot person guide, now links to those appearances will display on their TV.com credits page, too! Here are some examples of folks who have enjoyed some time on both the small and big screens:

    Dave Chappelle
    Sarah Jessica Parker
    Patrick Dempsey
    Elizabeth Berkley
    Steve Carell

I'm not sure how many of you actually know that Jaxiecracks is our newest TV.com Community Producer! Her name has been on the "Users Here to Help" list for a little while, but I wanted to make sure to give her an official, very big and warm welcome to the TV.com family. Feel free to contact her for assistance, in addition to danmod and I. We are very happy to have her with us .

The size limitations for images being uploaded to your profiles is as follows IF the image is hosted by TV.com servers (so, if you provide your own URL to an image hosted off-site, the following limits do not apply):

    Personal Image = (84x84 - 19k Max)
    Banner = (760x140 - 48k Max)
    Icon = (80x80 - 19k Max)

Please note: If you upload an image hosted by another site and it is huge/obnoxious/disruptive/causes loading issues, etc., it is completely within moderator discretion to take it down.

Starting late tomorrow morning, Pacific Standard Time, there will be new levels calculations in place for users who are Level 51 and higher. So for those of you who are already in the 50s, you can expect to automatically jump many more levels higher once the script with the new level points calculations runs tomorrow morning. Why are we only doing this for users above Level 50? Basically, the points requirements for the lower levels are fine as they are, but the number of points necessary to get from 50 to 51, 51 to 52 (and so on) are still a bit off the charts. So we made those higher levels even easier to get to...

...bringing us to "Part 2" (coming soon!) which will boost level points for users on ALL levels. We will be adding more points for more types of actions than we currently award users for. This will be happening pretty soon and I will definitely let you all know beforehand. For now, though, it will work best if we hit you with Part 1 first and monitor how that goes.

    Stay Tuned for more updates...
