WiiU Is A Step In The Wrong Direction For Gamers

This is either going to be amazing, or an utter disappointment. The problem with going touch is that it is going to divide their consumer base. Simply put moms and five year old will say it's an iPad with joy sticks, YAY! Then the smarter consumers, and actual gamers will say, why? The truth is Nintendo is becoming less of an innovator and more of a fad chaser. Touch is a trend. While it may be around for five more years or so, I doubt twenty years from now people will be reaching for their WiiU like they do for their Super Nintendo now. Why is that? Because the actual game has taken a backseat to the peripheral. The attraction is now "We have touch enabled motion controllers" instead of "We have that game that you'll remember as a classic forever." Simply put they are developing for a far greater market. By doing this they are lending themselves to an already dying technology. 10 years from now you are going to say touch? Touch what? The controller however, will always feel as natrual as it did 15 years ago. Old Nintendo was all about the games. New Nintendo is advertising this to a far bigger demographic, everyone. And unfortunately, everyone is beginning to eclipse the actual "gamer". I think in some ways they are aware of that issue. But in a lot of ways gamers are too. It's not just Nintendo. It's Microsoft, and Sony as well. These gimmicks lend nothing to true gameplay innovation. They are drowning out our demographic, and they are tearing up our roots. The thing that makes a great game, is the evocation of emotions, and a sincere response on a far greater level than any physical one. A great game is game you play and lose all sense of time. You regard it as more than just a game you played and beat, you regard as a memory, as time you spent with it. You regard it as an art, as a hobby, as something you do, because there is nothing else you would rather be doing at that time. Gaming is slowly, but surely losing that thanks to consoles like this. What can they possibly do next? Add 3D? This is a joke. The truth is the console was made for games. The best way to make a good console, is to make good games for it, simple as that.
