My Friends

2Sep 09

Hello, everybody!....hope things are going well for ya....'round here, we're getting our final taste of hot weather before the slow descent to fall type weather. Personally, I really enjoy the fall more than any other season...cool weather, no stifling humidity, wind chill or the slushy junk of spring.

- Well, things on the site seem pretty quiet...the staff here have fully retreated from posting in the forums completely which is sorta like the days of Snide sadly. Oh, and if you think I'm overlooking the announcements about new vides/new HD vids, I'm not...just ignoring them like the Import Cast glitch has been ignored by the site techs.

- As for me, working away on the guides....finished recapping Season 1 of Urban Legends and have a handful of eps left for season 2. Besides that, working on the odd guide as well as moderating subs. I do wish people would realize that not everything mentioned at Wikipedia/Wikis needs to be in a guide here. There's a line between Trivia and junk when it comes to guides and items like the number of times a character is sick in an ep, for example, is usually in the latter.

- Entertainment wise, two things grabbed my attention recently. One is that Bryan Singer, director of the first two X-Men movies, has been approached to direct the big screen version of Battlestar Galactica (Glen A. Larson version, not Moore). It'll be interesting to see what Larson and Singer can do given that Singer was originally asked to do the re-imagining before dropping out to do the big screen X-Men movies.

The other thing that intrigues me is that Frank Darabont, director of The Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile, will be doing a TV series based on the comic book series The Walking Dead, a zombie apocalypse series that is also character driven and the show will be on AMC. For any other director, I might say mehhh but Darabont has a habit of bringing out the best in source material. That being said, it'll be interesting to see how they get this kind of story on television without the censors going wild.

- Well, that's about all...hopefully, the new fall season will pop up a few gems this year though up in Canada, it's kinda scary when E! Canada just folds and all five of the stations they had were re-branded or are on the verge of going off the air completely.

Have a great week everybody!

I miss my friend.

Allowing level 1 users too submit has increased the amount of junk I see. I reject and direct them to guidelines. Sigh. The recent obvious MIA status of staff is bothersome to say the least.

Studog2961 - Hi! I've had a large amount of new episode subs for shows from level 1 0% users with reasons such as "this would be so cool...". As for the staff, it seems they've done a full retreat from interacting with members in the forums. I don't know why but I'm starting to get the feeling that another "site change" is coming....

Hi Maritimer, Yay ZoMbIeS! LOL just when I think the Vampire and Werewolf shows are overloading we get Zombies. We had a one week summer here (just before the tornados hit Ontario) and that was it, it's been cool, rainy and the leaves are already turning here. Glad your weather has picked up. The site has been awfully quiet, I wish they would test things before they dump it and it fails, then leave it. UGH. They just don't learn do they.

The staff has not only retreated from the forums; they've also stopped reading and replying to PMs. You're right about the "Days of Snide". The announcement of new HD videos is supremely useless to me since I'm not in the USA and therefore cannot watch them anyways. Good job on Urban Legends, though.

As for a BSG movie, don't you think it's a little too soon to reimagine a concept that was so magnificently reimagined not 6 years ago and led to one of the best sci-fi series....EVER!! What can they do to BSG that Moore and Eick didn't already do?

Darabont & zombies, eh? Will there be any wall posters of Sophia Loren in a fur bikini?

AprilFox - Hello! Well, horror/mystery seems to be trendy now and AMC does have a good record of putting out quality stuff so I'll wait and see though I have had friends tell me the comics are definitely R rated.......as for the site staff, I'm just a little unsettled when any management gives people the silent treatment. If it was a paying job we had here, I'd suggest everybody start looking thru the want ads...heh

Hoeech - Hi! Stopped responding to PM's, eh...? Sad times indeed....as for BSG, I have VERY strong opinions about this but I will say that Larson, the creator of BSG, does have the film rights to the series and the studio is going to have do things his way if they want a possible big money making franchise movie out of the idea. Thanx about the Urban Legends...I've got a few other guides on the go including correcting credits for people who have had done the role at the age of 2 according to what they currently say...

Frank Darabont is one of the best screenwriters in the business. If he writes it, it will be good. His resume is amazing as his writing:

The Mist, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, The Fly 2, The Blob.
He worked on both "The War of the Worlds" remake, and "Indiana Jones 4" both uncredited. He actually had scripts written for both but either Spielberg or Lucas changed/rejected them for other directions.
Shame, because both movies might have been much better with his genius in the writing.

Sign of the times I guess because Global TV (Canwest) and CTV are struggling. I've heard Global TV might not last far into 2010.

BuskieBoy - Hello! Speaking of the Blob, I read where Rob Zombie is going to be directing a remake of it and he wants to do a version where the title character doesn't look like a huge jelly monster as "today's audiences would laugh at it"...a Blob movie without a blob...yeah, that'll work....Global may have sealed their own fate a few years ago when they used up a large chunk of their cash/credit to buy the Atlantis/Alliance company just before the economy went sour....

"Fall Type Weather"... What's that? It's still summer here in Florida and will be until late December or so. I'm glad that someone is getting some cooler weather. Ever since they let level 1's submit is has been bad. I think I have rejected more subs in the past few months then in the last 4 years. I'm getting my vampire fix from Being Human so I'm glad that a zombie show is coming up. As for the staff being MIA... well that just seems like the new SOP. I hope all is going well. Have a great day.

Skeeter291 - Hello! It's sad to see the staff withdraw like this in favor of form speak announcements touting videos that seem to be their only focus. They've lost the trust of many around here....
