Games To Avoid #2: Doom 32X

Perhaps one of the worst ports of Doom ever and that's being nice to it, but for my next games to avoid I'm going to tell you why you should avoid the 32X version of Doom at all costs.

It was 1994 and like a lot of things at the time it was popular to port good games to other consoles at the time and since the 32X wasn't doing all that well at the time, Sega though it would be a great idea to port Doom over to the 32X to show people just what the 32X could do, but the problem was the gaming ended up being rushed just in time for the Christmas season and the game itself shows just how bad they screwed up on this port of Doom.

Where should I being with the game on just how bad it is? How about cutting out half of the levels from the game? Yes that's right they cut out almost half of the levels from Doom 32X and only left us with episode 1 Knee Deep Into The Dead and they did manage to get some of the Shores of Hell in there, but seriously, no Inferno and only keep it at 17 levels which is half of the original 27 levels of Doom not including Thy Flesh Consumed which was included in The Ultimate Doom. Seriously the SNES version managed to keep 22 of the original 27 levels in the game and I know it was made 2 years later than the 32X version, but they were just being lazy over at ID porting the game.

Another problem with the game was the omission of The Cyberdemon and Spidermaster Mind bosses which was a big mistake as it took away some of the difficulty of the game and they also removed the Spectre enemy and some of the blur artifacts in the game as well which hurt it even more and it seemed at the time it was a big thing to use the Jaguar's source code for the game as the 32X used the simplified maps of the Jaguar and not of the original PC version which only the SNES version seemed to use the PC source code, but that's not a big deal as it made some of the maps were shorter than the PC ones and that meant an easier time for newer players.

The biggest hit to the 32X version of Doom was the fact that the music sounded like fart noises and I don't know why they couldn't of made the music better, supposedly being a more powerful system that the SNES, the SNES version had better music and was more in vain to the PC version and although the 32X version was crap, the graphics were pretty good for the system and it was on par with the Jaguar in some parts, but the enemies were only drawn from the front so that meant you couldn't sneak up on them and this was a pain sometimes, but still even though the graphics were pretty good it still couldn't make up for the fact that it had sub-par music, simplified maps, the missing Cyberdemon and Spidermaster Mind bosses, the BFG is also missing from the game as well and can only be gotten through cheating. The controls for Doom 32X were okay, but it was necessary for the 6 button controller as 3 buttons weren't enough.

Overall Doom 32X wasn't the best port of Doom with all of it's troubles, but if you could put up with the missing levels and the headache inducing music then it's an average port of a great game.

    My rating for it: D-

    The Answers To Your Questions

Wow I was surprised by how many people asked me questions so without further ado let's answer them!

    Dragonfly110 asked:

    Do you like Banjo Tooie?
Who is your favorite member of the akatsuki?
what is your favorite console of all time?

    My answers:

Yes I do like Banjo Tooie. I consider it an excellent platformer and I'm glad they released it on XBLA so we can play it all over again. Hmm that's a hard one, but I like Pein mostly because he's pretty bad@$$ and just because he could stand up tp Naruto while he was in sage mode as well. My favorite console of all time has to be the SNES as it was one of the first consoles I ever played.

    Neo-EGOS asked:

    Are you on fire?

    My answer:

Well the last time I checked I'm still here and I don't smell myself on fire.

    Darkknight313 asked:

    Do you smoke?

    My answer:

No I do not smoke. I consider smoking nasty and I've never taken a puff as well. I'm pretty much clean.

    AybssD asked:

    How old ru?
    What's your favorite game?
How manny hours u pend play games?
    What's your favorite band?
    and What's your favorite anime?

    My answers:

As of right now I'm 22 years old. My favorite game of all time is a tie between Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. I usually play games for about 3-4 hours a day give or take if I'm busy. My favorite band is Breaking Benjamin. That's a hard one, but it's a tie between Dragonball Z and Naruto.

    ArmoredCore55 asked:

    Favorite character?
    Favorite place to eat?
Do you ever draw or paint?

    My answers:

That's also a hard one, but if I had to chose it would be old school Sonic The Hedgehog. My favorite place to eat is Del Taco because they have the best chicken soft tacos ever. Sadly no I do not draw or paint, I wish I could, but I express my art through writing stories.

    indzman asked:

Whats your favourite FPS game ?
    Whats your favourite dessert ?

    My answers:

My favorite FPS is Doom, but if I had to go with a more modern one it would be Halo. My favorite dessert has always been a banana split sundae and if I usually get the chance I'll make one myself.

    jrabbit99 asked:

    What's ur name
    how old are u?
what consoles do you own and what games?
were do you think the gaming industry will be in 20 years?

    My answers:

My real name is Jason and I'm 22 years old. I own a lot of consoles: NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, PS2, Xbox 360, GB, GBA, DS, Wii and I wish could tell you all the games I owned on my consoles, but it would take forever to list, but just to let you know I own most of the better games on the consoles. I think the gaming industry will still be strong in the next 20 years and I think we'll see games in a whole new way as well.

    Cecil_Highwind asked:

    What's your favorite country?

    My answer:

My favorite country is probably the USA. I may hate how the country's run, but at least we're given some freedom and for that I'm grateful to the USA.

    MasterLink3000 asked:

what was the worst movie you saw?
do you wish sonic games today were good as the old ones?
    whats your favorite food?

    My answers:

The worse movie I ever saw was one of the High Musical films. I had to watch it with one of my younger cousins and they were into it, but it made me want to punch the TV afterwards because it was just that horrible. A good question and yes I wish the newer Sonic games were just as good as the old ones, but since Sega always has to change Sonic around I doubt we'll ever see him back to the glory he once had. My favorite food is chille dogs and I usually like them with some sweet onion on them and a good amount of cheese as well.

    jorler333 asked:

How many games do you own?

    My answer:

It's hard to tell since half of my closet is full of games, but after checking I'd say I have at least over 500 games from the various consoles I own.

    LuigiRulze asked:

Whats your favorite next gen console?
Whats your favorite video game of all time?
    Why do you like Naruto?

    My answers:

My favorite next gen console as of right now is the Xbox 360 since it's easy to use and it has the largest libary of the three right now. My favorite game of all time is a tie between Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and Sonic The Hedgehog. The reason I like is pretty simple, it's a great show to watch and it has a good amount of comedy, action, drama and everything else you want from a show.

    reo-117 asked:

if you had 3 wishes what would it be and whats the weirdest dream you ever had?

    My answers:

If I had three wish I'd wish for world peace, an end to hunger and just for myself, every video game console ever made. The weirdest dream I've ever had is when I though I was Mario and I was in the Mushroom Kingdom rescuing the Princess as always and let me tell you it almost felt real.

    TristanH12 asked:

    Does Mac really rule?

    My answer:

Well it's a matter of opinion, but yes I think Macs do rule as they are easier to use that PCs and they are less to attacks from virus, but PCs still do own the market and I'm in a small group of people that think Macs are much better.

    Pigfish2 asked:

Do you like sport, if so which is your favourite?
What's the best book you've ever read?
Who is your favourite character in gaming?

    My answers:

Yes I do have a favorite sport and it's baseball. The best book I've ever read was Hearts In Atlantis by Stephen King. My favorite character in gaming is old school Sonic The Hedgehog.

    Drake_Bell004 asked:

How Evil Can you be ?
On which Age you feel that you need Glasses for your eyes ?
Which Thing Make you feel worst ?

    My answers:

Just how evil can I be? Hmm that's a hard one as I've never really considered myself an evil person, but the most evil thing I have done is break something that belongs to my parents. I was 11 years old when I needed my first pair of glasses and I've need them since. The thing that makes me feel the worst is when something bad happens to someone I care for.

    rpd234 asked:

what's in your opinion the worst console (this includes handhelds) of all time?
how do you prefer games cartoony or realistic?
what is your favorite rpg of all time?

    My answers:

I think the worst console of all time would be the Sega 32X. I wonder why Sega even made the console, it was crap and need an extra power cord use to be used and the games for it sucked as well or were half @$$ ports of other games. Well for my games I like them to be both cartoony and realistic as both of them are necessary in order to make a game great and my favorite RPG of all time would have to be Chrono Trigger.

    Thug2Wasteland asked:

    1) What series gotten you into anime?

    2) What name would you give to your son/daughter? (if you planing too)

    3) Favorite Naruto Female charcter? Or favorite anime chatcter?

    4) Your favorite theme opening?

    5) Favorite VGM?

    My answers:

The series that got me into anime was Dragonball Z. I first started watching it back in 1999 and since then I've always enjoyed anime. That's a good question, but I've never though about it that much, sorry. Hmm my favorite Naruto female character? You should know who it is, but if I must it's Sakura. I think she's gotten a lot better since the beginning of Naruto and now she's awesome I think. My favorite opening theme ever would have to be the Sonic SATAM intro theme and for favorite VGM it would have to be from any of the older Sonic games, Mario games and Doom as well.

    FlatJeff asked:

    Do penguins have knees?

    My answer:

As far as I know penguins do not have knees.

    slipknoob asked:

what are your favourite franchises? what are your favourite bands?

    My answers:

Besides the Sonic series I also enjoy the Mario series, Halo series, Gears of War series, Resident Evil series, Doom, Legend of Zelda series, Final Fantasy series, and Call of Duty series. As for my other favorite bands I like Slayer, Crush 40, Bullet For My Valentine, AC DC, Queen, Linkin Park, Tool, Egypt Central, and Led Zeppelin.

    Bobcheeseball asked:

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

    My answer:

Well if it was Chuck Norris he wouldn't need to chuck any wood because he's just that awesome.
