I'm not a PC gamer. Never play games on PC and never had the chance to buy games off the internet via download. I don't know exactly how much time would it take to download a game or how big the games usually are for PC. Yesterday i got to experience this whole DD thing on a console, the PS3.
So i bought and downloaded Siren: Blood Curse from the Playstation store and i must say it wasn't a very pleasant experience. You can buy the full game or buy it by chapters. There are a total of four chapters and each one is made up of three episodes. So the game has a total of 12 episodes and each one of them has to be downloaded individually. I question the way Sony is doing this. Why not include those three episodes of one chapter in just one download? I don't get it.
I bought the full game because it ends up being around 10 euros cheaper. I had to download twelve episodes individually. That's TWELVE downloads!
Each download has from around 500 MB to 1200 MB in size. The full game totals almost 10 GB in size!
Needless to say that all these dowmnloads were a real pain in the a**. I have a 16 Mbps internet connection and it took me around six hours to download everything. To top it all i had to install all the downloads, that was 20 minutes more. Also, now i have less 10 GB of space in a 60 GB HDD!
Making a big story short, all i'm trying to say is: Is Digital Distribution really the future of gaming? Do you see yourself going through the hassle of dowloading games as big as 10 GB and more? If you're a hardcore gamer, with lots and lots of games, do you think you'll have an HDD big enough for all those games? Are you willing to upgrade your internet connection, paying more, just to download games faster.
I personally don't see a very bright future for DD as the only way to buy games. There are too many factors that make it not very accessible for the majority of gamers around the world. Besides that, who doesn't like to actually own a physical copy of a game?
Your thoughts?
Not all gamers have gone crazy, mind you, but what i've been seeing in the last hours since the end of Microsoft's press conference at E3 is ridiculous.
As everyboy probably knows already, FFXIII is not a PS3 exclusive anymore. While the game will still be exclusive to the PS3 in Japan (at least for the time being) it will release simultaneously for both PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America and Europe after the Japanese launch. When will that happen? Probably a lot more late than we expected since the game will only be ported to the 360 after it's done on PS3. So Japanese fans will probably get this game by the end of this year or early next year while NA and European fans will probably have to wait for late 2009. I should also note that FF versus 13 is still PS3 exclusive for the time being.
After this huge surprise, gaming forums everywhere have gone crazy: 360 fanboys shouting "Sony got pwned" "LOL @ PS3 owners", PS3 fanboys threatening to boycott FFXIII and some other PS3 fanboys/owners even saying they were going to sell their PS3s. Seriously, how stupid is that? What serious gamer would actually sell a console just because a game is not exclusive anymore? Newsflash, you'll still be able to play the damn game!
I'm sure this announcement will make some people that don't own a PS3 or 360 think twice before choosing which one they want, but those that own a PS3 already have no reason to sell it, not with all the great exclusive it will be getting that we already know about and the ones we don't even know about. Sony's conference hasn't been held yet. I'm sure Sony has some really nice surprises up their sleeves. Just a few minutes ago i saw a trailer of InFAMOUS, a PS3 exclusive made by Sucker Punch. The game looks fantastic! It's another game i'm looking forward to for my PS3.
The purpose of this blog is to tell people to just relax. Enjoy the games you're getting and stop worrying if a game is exclusive or not.
Have a nice day.![]()
Last night i was up until 4 am just to see the end of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. I couldn't stop playing it until i could see the final credits. MGS4 does that to you. It's so engaging that it's really hard to put the controller down.
MGS4 is the best gaming experience i have ever had in my life! This game has epic written all over it!![]()
MGS4 is what i expected and a lot more. Everything transpires top notch quality: graphics, sound, gameplay, the soundtrack... and the boss fights! My God, the boss fights is something i will remember for the rest of my life! So so good.
And the ending... totally unexpected.![]()
Hideo Kojima just set a new standard for videogames. This man and his team deserve all the praises they can get.
BRAVO MR.KOJIMA, BRAVO!!!
YES, i finally got it!!! I'm so happy.
I Never thought i would be so excited for a game like this again. I feel like a little kid with a new toy.![]()
Pics!!!
With paper sleeve.

Plastic box.

I also got this, a new controller. Looks like a regular PS3 controller, right?

Look again.![]()

I wasn't expecting to get a DS3 at all. It hasn't officially released in Europe yet, but for some reason the store where i got MGS4 had it! I was waiting for the DS3 to release to buy a second controller for my PS3. I had the chance today and i grabbed it.![]()
Later guys, time to go play some MGS4.![]()
Well, i've been tagged by my friend Ace20, so i guess i'll have to tell you guys five more things you didn't know about me.![]()
Here they are:
1 - When i was younger, i used to love watching Macgyver on TV;
2 - My favorite movie of all time is The Shawshank Redemption;
3 - I have never broken a bone in my body;
4 - I was going to be a male nurse. Went to college to study for it, but ended up leaving because i realised it wasn't the profession that i wanted;
5 - I never played MGS1. I watched my brother play some parts of it. I only got started in the series with MGS2 and it was a while after its release.
There you have it. Comment at will.![]()
... for not having MGS4 right now.![]()
As i kinda expected, MGS4 didn't get here yesterday. It's normal for games to arrive here, in the middle of the freaking Atlantic, a little bit late. Since MGS4 is such a huge game, i hoped that retailers would work harder on releasing it on time, just like they did with GTAIV.
To top it all, there was a truckers strike in Portugal in the last few days. The country nearly stopped, there was no gas in many gas stations, store shelves were nearly empty, among many other things. Damn oil crisis.![]()
Reading peoples reactions to MGS4 makes me feel really bad. All i read is people saying how great and amazing it is and seeing scores like a 10 from IGN doesn't make things much better either.
I hope it doesn't take too long for me to be able to get my copy of the game.
Excuse me while i go cry in a corner now.![]()
