The difference between games today and 2 game generations ago is that there are more Western developers. I personally think it's a bad thing because of the fact that American devs only think about two things. The first would be the FPS or Third PS, or an aspect of FPS (i.e. fallout 3, oblivion). Why do you think that there have been so many in the past 8 years? Second would be the unnecessary blood and guts. Don't get me wrong I don't mind blood and guts but it's not always needed. So now we have nothing but shooters and blood flooding the market. I enjoy and respect the Japanese devs. Their games were much more original, and had/have a deep story to go with them.

Well I'm talking about Final Fantasy VII. I've never understood why so many people hate the game. I remember playing it when it first dropped. Then I had sold it and had gone into a mild depression. Then I got it back and play it at least once a year.
My only thought of people hating the game is because so many people do love it. Those of us who love the game so much express it so much that the reaction is hate. I will say there are a lot of people who've jumped on the bandwagon, but that's fine to me only because they get to experience, as long as they actually play the game and not go off of what they see in Kingdom Hearts or something.
I don't know maybe I'm just talking out of my ass again. Anyway Final Fantasy is my 2nd favorite game. Super Mario Bros. 3 is first and Ninja Turtles (the first game before the arcade version) comes in third.

Remember when you were younger and you would go to the store and see a game that you never heard of but the box art looked so cool that you had to have it. I remember those days. I didn't know what I wanted. Gaming sites and mags didn't exist back then so you didn't know when something was coming out until it came out. Even then you didn't know what was coming out before hand. Those were the days. I say that because people rush out to buy a game immediately because they've heard about it's release date for years (although it kept getting pushed back). The previews are so frequent that you know the story before even entering your first save point.
My point? Well my point is that gaming was so much better before reviews, previews, and game news. If you liked a game, you liked it even with the flaws that it came with. Now we have IGN and gamespot (lower case for a reason) telling us what they think of it. This influences us so much that we just don't care how good/bad the game actually may be. I've fallen to this low point in my gaming life too. At the same time it's necessary because some of these companies/developers are putting out complete and utter crap.
So I guess I'm trying to say that I miss the old days before money ruled games and I could find the unknown release dropped on the unknown release date without reading that unknown review.

Cell shaded games? They were the "Wave of the Future" at one point. Now there as rare as RPGs. It's all good I guess I would just like to see more of a variaty in games. For me everything is either built on the U3 engine or 2d ( I play a lot of 2d fighters). Imagine a full on action game (think GOW) in cell shading. That would be so awesome. Well that's my post for the month of August. Now back to Blaze Blue.

4 celebs in one week. The biggest being M.J. I actually don't feel sady or anything. i'm more so annoyed at people crying over him as if he was family. Maybe I'm too cold. Anywho...
So this week Mark of the Wolves came out for xbox live and without warning. Next week Blazblue hits store shelves. Then there's KOFXII. I'm going to go broke buying all of these fighters.
Then there's Ghostbuster's, Infamous, prototype, Ninja Gaiden sigma 2, Modern Warfare 2, Madden 10, nba 2k10, and I can go on. looks like the savings account will be emptied.
Too many games.

If you haven't noticed I don't really blog anymore. I just place my opinion here and there and lookie there a slew of mods kicking my tail. Why because I ask questions. I promise, these mods have nothing better to do than pay attention to what I say. Jerks!
Anyway I didn't decide to write about that, although I should. My beef is with the recent Gamespot Ratings. I don't know, maybe it's me but these new critics are garbage. It's been like this for almost 2 years now. So now I have 2 things to complain about the mods and the critics. Rag Doll Kung Fu gets a 5.0 but those who have it give it an average of 7 - 7.5. It's a fun game. Sonic got something obsurred last year. Yes it was a crap game but did it deserve a 3 or whatever?
All that I ask is that gamespot get back to rating games as they should be seen, games. All this technical jargon is garbage. Although the rating for Lair was on the spot before its patch, most of the time the ratings they give are either biased, based on name or developer,or just wrong. They're looking to much into the technical side of a simple game like ragdoll kung fu instead of the fun factor.
It's gotten so bad that I don't even look to gs for review scores anymore. It's just an online social hub now.
IGN, gamespot, and other gamer websites did their previews with LAIR and not one time did they complain about it. All of a sudden the game comes out and they bash the crap out of it. It doesn't make sense how they can preview the game and give it praises but then destroy it with abysmal ratings. I'm just saying you should think about that.

26Jun 08What's up with all of this fanboy ish? I'm not getting anything from Sony or MS by saying I like their stuff better than the next system. You guys are so dumb... well not dumb but easily influenced. It doesn't make sense to argue about which system is better. If you have one system and don't want the other one, fine, just talk about the things that you have and leave it at that. I'm able to have both so I can talk about both. It doesn't make sense to talk about something that you no little to nothing about. Gamespot is no help either. When they started the system comparisons they opened the floodgates of this *ish. Oh yeah, the PS3 2.4 firmware update is going to be off the chain.

Ok so I've finally gotten a 360 and have been having a blast on xbl. although I only have 2 games, Halo 3 and Ninja Gaiden II. Looking around I can say that there are tons of games for the 360. So many games (and more to come) that it reminds me of another system from a few years back. Which system you ask? Well I'm speaking of the PS2.
The PS2 has so many games albeit not all of them are classics, or even good for that matter but the fact is that there are tons of choices to choose from. The 360 is becoming the new PS2. There are tons of choices, tons of games. Back in the day the PS2 had all of the games while the xbox (original) had a few games but better capabilities. Now it's the opposite, the 360 has the games while the PS3 has the better capabilities.
Hey either way I have fun so it's all good.

5May 08If I didn't mention Iron Man now, in lew of the movies that I will see, I wouldn't do this movie justice. I have to say that Marvel has done it again. It was one of the greatest things since Spider-Man 2. If this is a hint of what to expect this summer then I will be spending all of my money in the theaters. Don't bootleg this one because it won't do the writers, producers, graphics dept (or whatever they're called), or actors justice. See the movie, and know that I will buy this as soon as it comes out. Now if only Marvel will release the license to Capcom for MVC3.

16Apr 08As for the $20 for extra in game content, that's Bullsh*t. Let's look at Soul Calibur III and Tekken 5. There was only 1 version for each game and they both had customizable characters (extra content). Now I have to pay for that. That's garbage. Bungie had their limited edition pack for Halo 3 but there wasn't a difference between that and the in game content for the regular purchase. I bet the developers for SCIV had completed the game with extra content and some bastard from the financial office said, "Hey, let's make a little more money by making them pay for that cool feature you have there."
-Developer "But we didn't do that with SCIII."
-Financial Bastard "Who cares. This is next gen gaming. Now you have to pay for the good stuff. Or we'll outsource your job and they'll split the game up for less." I'm trying to keep my comments tamed but this is Bullsh*t.
The easy solution is to not buy the game, but how many people are going to be the suckers to get it?- Posted Apr 16, 2008 6:02 am PT

14Apr 08These past couple of months I've been MIA. Not really MIA but not really writing anything other than a post, here or there. Hence the title of this entry. Nothing really has happened in my gaming life. Played a few games, none too memorable. So I resorted to going to a friends house and playing the new Halo 3 Maps. I like them. I still have to mute everyone that I hear due to all of the ignorant racism being thrown around. Other than that it was a good experience. M.A.M.E. is still the greatest thing going and I am the King of Fighters... excluding MVC2

My last blog was about the good old days of the arcade, you know the place of fun that us "old" people talk about. Well I now have an arcade on my apple mac book pro and it's blowing all of todays games away. I'm not going to tell you where to get it, how to get it, or anything like that because it's completely illegal unless you're an active programmer. I, sad to say, am no longer active.
Who remembers Cadillacs and Dinosaurs or even better Alien vs Predator oooh ooooh oooh how about The Punisher? Yeah, those were the days of beat the sh## out of everybody that stands in your way. I had the best Christmas ever after I found M.A.M.E. I'm not saying you should too but I am saying if you want to have some old school fun then you need M.A.M.E. 32 to help you out.

Ok so I've been on hiatus for awhile but I'm back and just in time for Christmas.
Now I know some of you are saying, "Double Team? What are you talking about?" Well I'm speaking of the walk around beat 'em up, fly around and shoot 'em up, 2 against the world, Billy and Jimmy, games. I came into video games at the height of the arcade era ('86 - mid 90s). During that time the best games, IMO, were the 2d co-op games. What was better than you and a friend or some random person taking on the world?
I remember the first time I had played double dragon at the arcades. It was the coolest thing to me. My sister and I would waste our time and never beat the game but it wasn't anything to cry about because we always had fun. Then came the Final Fight days, those were amazing, my friend and I would waste all of our money, and still never beat the game but we were getting better. The quarters were lasting longer. Not to mention all of the shoot 'em ups that were around back then. Around that same time you could bring even more of that fun home. Some people had Final Fight for the Super Nintendo (Super for short) while others, like myself, had the Sega and my favorite game of then Streets of Rage 2.
Times were good... no times were great! If I could trade in my PS3 for an arcade system withnothing but late 80s to mid 90s 2d games, it would be done in a heartbeat. Today, not to complain, there are just too many FPS' out there. I'd rather fight with a friend than against a friend.

The reason for the battle of the rating is because people/rating companies have the idea that video games are for kids and kids only. The truth is, the average gamer is in the age group of 18 - 34. What many people don't understand is that games and their developers are growing up with the first 2 generations of gamers.
Games today are more violent yeah, but games today are meant for the adults, the people who can actually go into an R rated movie without getting carded, or those who can walk into the other-side of the 24 hour video store (some will get it later). Anyway, that's where the problem is.
I'm 24, been playing games since Mario, though I'm not the oldest vet, but I'm still here. Today, developers are making games for my generation, not the 16 year old kids. Some of you may take offense to that but it's true. Oh yeah, it's on the parents too, they shouldn't just buy anything for their kids. I mean most parents wouldn't let their child go to a porno theater, let alone a rated R movie. And the movies are another scene to show that my generation and slightly before are the ones running the entertainment industry. Kids today had no idea of what a Transformer was until this past summer. When I say kids I'm talking about the ages of 0+ to 16. Only a few of them knew about the Marvel movies.
It's a shame that I, as well as other ADULTS, cannot even get a glimpse of an ADULT ONLY game. Adults make games for all generations. My particular generation creates games for my particular generation. Once these rating guys understand that games are made for an older crowd (never happen), then they will understand what's going on.

Well yes is the answer that I'll give you. Why? Well oncea company gets so large they don't tend to care about the product that they're putting out anymore, everything moves from quality to quantity. Money is the main driving force in this situation. When you have indy groups/businesses come out with their first game, they are trying to impress. Impress not only the consumer but also impress themselves. The dream of creating a game that has your views in it as well as having a game that will change the industry, who (game creators) doesn't want that?
At the same time some companies become so large that they want to stay on top of the rest all while bringing in the money. The main company that I can think of for doing this is EA games. At one time they pushed out top of the line games with innovative ideas. Now they are only pushing out clones of what made them big. Every sports game that has come out within the past 5 years through EA sports has only had minor changes. Even worse, when Madden made the jump from current gen to next, the port was horrible. They had actually downgraded the gameplay and stepped up the graphics, a very bad balance.
Maybe it's an East vs West situation. I say that because there is also Capcom, another giant corporation, who is constantly pushing out great games. They seem to have a balance of what they want, quantity as well as quality. Many would agree that they've not droppeda game that was not great. Resident Evil 4 was bound to be mentioned so why shouldn't I mention it. Resident Evil has been around since I was in the 9th grade, there were a few games that weren't as good as the rest but as of late, the RE development team cannot do any wrong. Although it seems that Capcom has abandond their 2D fighters, they still have pushed out great games for different genres.
Now, on one hand you have a company that pushes out clones vs another that pushes out innovation. So the question is still up, "Can Video Game Companies Become Too Big?!"
