First post: An introduction...
After posting a number of reviews I felt that it would be a good idea to get to know people here at Gamespot forums, and share a little bit about myself. Who am I, you ask? My real name is Steve, Im 27 years old, and I currently live in Tenessee.
Heres a little history about my gaming habit:
As far as gaming is concered, ive had a lot of systems growing up. My first was the Atari 2600, (yes i played that God-awful E.T. game). My favourite games were Asteroids and Moon Patrol. I remember telling my dad, "This is awesome, You'll never have to buy me another game system again!!". Sorry dad.
When that phase passed, a friend of mine had a Sega Master System. I loved it. Bright, crisp graphics, great sound too. I bought it from him with 7 games for $150. I used up all my allowance money and then some to buy it. To this day i still look back at that system and think about all the fun i had with it, most notably Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, Space Harrier, and Rastan.Too bad there was no third-party support!
Then, it had to happen: I finally got an NES. At the time the systems were $100, and i remember my dad telling me that if it goes cheaper than that he would buy me one. Lo and Behold, one day my family and I were walking into a store called "Silo", (its now defunct), which was kinda like a Circuit City. As soon as we walked in there it was: A whole pile of NES systems stacked up with a price of $90!!! So yeah, i got it, and over 40+games later i had a good ride with it. To this day i still enjoy playing the NES Mega Man games (except #6, meh), 1943, Zelda, TMNT II, and of course Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3.
Next was the Genesis stage. Shooters were huge during that time, and i had a pile of em! Gaires, Thunder Force series to name a few. Not to mention the stellar Sonic series, Lethal Enforcers("you get to shoot with a gun? Awesome!!!"), ToeJam and Earl, and of course Mortal Kombat!
Now here's the part I thought i would never do: Have two competing systems at the same time. What???!! A friend of mine wanted to sell his SNES, so like the game freak i am, i bought it. And i played Mortal Kombat..."why does the blood look like sand?". This is when the internet was in my home, and i started to become a computer dork because i had to find out why the blood was not..blood. I felt Nintendo betrayed a lot of its fanbase by doing this, and to this day they still have the "kiddie" image attached to them. But that didnt stop me from enjoying the system. My favourite games from the SNES were Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, R-Type 3rd Lightning, and U.N. Squadron.
Then i took a break from gaming. At the time I felt that i should probably "grow up" and not play videogames anymore. They were just for kids, right? Until the Playstation came out. I read magazines, looked at the game lists, and eventually got the system for Christmas. That system brought me back into videogames in a whole new way. Video games finally grew up!! Yay! And they were on a CD!! ohhhh!!!! Notable games i had were Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Tekken 3 and R-Types.
Then I took another so-called break. Then one day my friends at work kept talking about this "Grand Theft Auto III" game. A lot. A whole heck of a lot. Eventually i became interested, and one night I was at this party, and someone was playing it. I asked if I could play, and while I may have been extremely drunk, I was blown away nonethess. So yeah, a week or two later I bought a PS2 and GTA:III. Heres the funny part: After I finished the game, there wasnt anything else on the system i wanted to play. So I returned it and got my full refund!! But it wouldnt last: A year later I bought another one with a ton of games I actually wanted to play such as: GTA:VC, GTA:SA, Ratchet and Clank 1,2,3, Gradius, R-Type Final, God of War I, and II, Rez, Psychonauts and many others. I still have this system to this day and enjoy every minute of it. Oh did I mention Guitar Hero? Hell yeah baby!!
I bought an Xbox, but i didnt like it. All the games that were on the xbox were on ps2, and i could not stand the xbox controller. The little black and white gem buttons drove me nuts. And the s-controller didnt make much of a difference to me anyway. Thankfully they fixed it with the 360.
Lastly I ventured into the portable gaming world, something ive never done before. I went out and bought a Nintendo DS, simply because i played Brain Age at wal-mart for about 30 minutes and was hooked. Then i discovered that a "New" Super Mario Bros was coming out and returning to 2-d. I had to have it. And i got one, and im glad i did!! Ive had mine for about a year now and still play it often. My favourite games for the DS include, Elite Beat Agents, New Super Mario Bros, Nanostray, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, and Brain Age to name a few.
Gosh my hands hurt from typing! Well I hope you enjoyed my little video-game bio. I hope to meet some friendly folks here. And I plan to add some more reviews and blogs too. Thanks for visiting!
