All About koHd

Hello everybody, my name is Shane and this blog will mainly consist of the story of me starting up my new company, 'Xeon Gaming'. We are an all round entertainment/media company that has a main core of video games. We organize LAN's, gaming clubs, tournaments, and buy arcade machines to put in new places where gamers can be found outside of arcades.

Our goal as a company is to invigorate the gaming culture and industry in Ireland and get this small nation on the gaming map.

Life & Business is a bit difficult in this day & age without broadband..

I haven't updated this blog in ages due to moving appartment and office.

And because both me and my business partner have moved, we also had to leave our old office.

While it was a good move for both of us, we didn't factor in the areas we moved to not having great broadband services. *depressing*

Both of us found it difficult to get connected. Lar got sorted after about a month. But I was having an absolutely ridiculous time trying to get a phone line installed out here in Kilcock by Eircom.

After a couple of calls in month one, everything seemed to be on track. Order placed. Order accepted. Letter of acceptance arrives and is filled out by me and returned.

But then I didn't hear from them for a couple of weeks. So I ring again. This time I'm told no services are available in the appartment because no line work is in place. Will take another couple of weeks. *a little miffed*

But I get on with it and wait the two weeks.

Two weeks come and go. Nothing. So I ring up. The date has been pushed back further. *a lot miffed*

So I ring the building management to find out if there actually is no line work in place or are Eircom just idiots.

    Eircom are just idiots.

Turns out the apparment next door has had a phone line installed over a year ago. Line work in place. *super miffed*

So at this stage I'm about ready to go postal on Eircom's asses.

To cut a long story short; after another bag load of phone calls and official complaint, they finally got my line installed. Ten weeks after the original date of order. Great.

But those ten weeks without broadband was crippling. Espcailly since I don't drive (yet). Trying to run a business in this day & age without broadband or a car is tough.

Now there's a tv challenge: succesfully start and run a modern day business without broadband or a car.

Will be posting more regular (and more on topic!) from now on.

    Cheers,

    Shane

PS. I forgot to mention the best bit about the Eircom farce. At a point in about week 5 they sent one of their engineers out. He found the line work in place. Went off to the exchange to sort it. Said he'll ring me back and let me know if the line is ready to go or not. Never rang me back. So a week later I ring Eircom. Tell them this. And they tell me they never sent a guy out and that it was probably somebody trying to scam me! hahaha scam what out of me? He was just checking line work. He was in an Eircom van and had all my Eircom details on and Eircom page. But still they rather believe it was some boogey monster than admit they knew the line work was in place but were too lazy to do a thing about it!

Ah you have to laugh at these things though. Completely farcical.

    Xeon Gaming Clubs for Dublin

Just a quick shout to let anybody interested in playing games competitively/socially in Dublin know that we are starting an Xbox 360 gaming club. The Xeon Gaming Club is a brand new idea that we think can help the gaming culture in Dublin grow and evolve into something everybody can be proud to be part of.

We plan on hosting paid entry events in the Xtreme Gaming Centre on Liffey Street in Dublin. And also free members events in our offices in Dublin.

Membership is free and has great perks, including the aforementioned free gaming nights.

It's a work in progress now and is really going to be a club for gamers built by the gamers as we evolve over the next few months.

    If you're interested in joining or want some more info here's a link;

    cheers,
    Shane
