Quick Review on movies of the week.

Well I finally saw Mummy 3, and overall it was not that bad. Sure its not as good as the other two, but its a nice change of pace to go away from the tired theme of the egyptian mummy and have a newer villian. Jet Li, the Special Effects were probably the highlights, and Michelle Yeoh was not bad; and neither was the babe playing her daughter. And IMO I prefer the chick who replaced Weiss. My only recommendation would be to make it look like there is 20 year age gap between Fraiser and his son and not a 5 year one. 6/10

Bablyon AD was not bad either, it had great action scenes, but thats it. Apparently Fox for some reason doesnt like to make money on movies and again shafted another possible moneymaker for themselves, xfiles being the other. Apparently the had 10-15 minutes of the plot edited out to keep it just a dumbed down action movie, so your left with many answer at the end of the film. Oh well, Fast and Furious 4 looks good, and hopefully Riddick 3 will come out. 5.7/10

And to rap it up a few Chuck Norris classics:

Lone Wolf McQuade - prolly his best movie, and it has a fight with him and david carridine, as close as well come to bruce chuck 2. 8.3/10

Breaker, Breaker - simple story, a young chuck, a lot of ass whupping. 7/10

Octagon - the movie i looked forward to the most and the biggest let down. 90 mins of talking and buildup and only 20 mins of fighting, even though the battle with the red hooded ninja was epic. 4/10

    Halloween 30th Anniversary Set

Well I for one am kinda excited because this is my favorite horror of all time, but up until a day ago i didnt even have it on dvd. With this set i get the extended version of halloween, the blu ray version of it, and i guess halloween 4 and 5 could have been worse. Plus there is the inclusion of the 25 years later documentary that I kind of wanted to see.

That being said, its a steep price tag of around 70 bucks if you get from a cheap website, and in the end there is nothing new being added, just a repackaging of stuff that already exists. So i dont blame the fans who already own everything in the set and have no reason to buy this set. From what I hear, the one thing missing that perhaps sounds the most interesting is an extended cut of halloween 2. Just like how Carpenter made and extended tv cut for part one, apparently he did the same for part II, but its not avaliable anywhere. And for that matter, why add 4 and 5 but not 2; 2 is the second best movie behind only one of course.

And for that matter whats the deal with the blu ray version, its crap. It basically has no features. Hell, i thought the point of blu ray was that they could fit more onto a single disc. Seems like a lot of people are going to get screwed over early on in the blu ray phase, because if you look carefully other movies are doing the same **** Id say the most aggregious offender is Fifth element, they even have teh gaul to use teh ultimate cover from the dvd, but none of the features. No **** thanks i want the features not the **** cover art. Luckily a few movies have stepped up there game, and one in particular that i will mention is Dracula. After screwing us over with no features its entire existence on dvd, that superbit version sucks, the blu ray version finally delievers with new features among other things, and this may be the first blu ray dvd i buy.

Well thats it for now. Ja nee.

    Nite at the Movies.

Well since my friend works at the movies, I've pretty much seen every movie worth watching this summer for free. The highlights of which were Hellboy II: Golden Army, Indiana Jones 4, and Dark Knight. I saw Ironman, but unfortunately I had to pay for that one. Oh well, it was worth the ticket.

So, my friend showed up as usually, knocking on my window because he has no cellphone. So there were four movies that I was interested in seeing, and we choose to go with Tropic Thunder followed by Mirrors. The other two were Star Wars and Mummy 3.

First of all, Tropic Thunder was hilarous, and Robert Downey Jr. did not disappoint in his portrayl of Officer Osrisis. Stiller was up to a level I hadn't seen since Zoolander, and Jack Black went two for two, following up his performance in Be Kind Rewind. In fact all five of the main soldiers were perfectly done, as were pretty much all the parts. And the only one I didnt care for got blown up shortly after the movie started. And of course Nolte and Cruise were brilliant in there respective roles of fake vet and annoying movie executive.

I must say though in two movies RBJ has gone from a drugged up star fallen from grace to an A list star. I don't think it will happen with these movies, but imo he has put himself into a group with Johnny Depp, Edward Norton, and Viggo Mortensen who I can see winning an oscar in the next few years. Although personally, Ive always liked him, and really didnt care about the whole drug thing. Look if you perform on stage whether actor or ballplayer, you could play the bongos naked for all I care (Yes even Matt M. did a fine performance).

And I would like to say, lay off with the stupid black face is offensive, and how could he make fun of retards sthick. If you have a problem go look up satire. And just a heads up, the movie starts with a fake commercial for Booty Drink followed by three fake trailers.

We wrapped up the evening by catching a late showing of mirrors. Honestly, I dont expect much from horrors these days, and even less from remakes; although I didnt know this was a remake until I saw the credits. The movie was good, especially considering the level of horrors these days, and amy smart is as looking as ever, and showing her backside was a nice plus. Watching this movie I came to a conclusion, ultimately, the horror movies that are some what vague on background story tend to be the best. Look, at this point in time nobody can come up with something original, so the explanations end up tanking. And ring proves my point, arguably the best horror in five ten years. Ring one explains nothing about Samantha and was awesome; bam in part two they give her a lame explanation story and the movie tanked. Oh well, I plan to check out the original Korean horror now, Into the Mirrors 2003. BTW, they should start with the plasma tv commercials again with the little girl and elephant, there kinda creepy when you link them with this movie, lol.

Well, im off for now, but next time look forward to my commentary on SWCW and Mummy 3.

    TT 8.1/10

    Mirrors 6.7/10
