Wow, 1 million users. Karma really does exist.
I am extremely anti-piracy. What this means is that I pay for what I use. I also firmly believe that everyone should. It is in large part due to piracy that we have to pay the prices we pay for our games and music and movies. Theft is theft and should I believe be punished as such. The person that makes the pirated media should be punished, but so too should the people that buy the pirated media. The bottom line is if people didn't buy it, the pirates would be out of business. I have always beieved it although truthfully, I never in my life thought I would live to see the day where those that bought pirated media were ever punished on a large scale.
Yesterday was the day that those that had it coming finally got it and got it good. According to information week as many as 1 MILLION xbox's were blocked from online play due to modded consoles equipped to play pirated games. 1 MILLION. That is 5% of the xbox live universe. That is a huge number and it fills me full of glee like nothing ever has before. I say kudos to microsoft. Personally, I would have bricked the system, but that is just me.
I work very hard for my money. Why should I have to fork out between 60 and 90 dollars Cdn for a licensed game while some thief pays another thief a hundred bucks to mod their console so they can play pirated copies of gameswith no remorse for a fraction of that. Why should I look forward to less content and more money for games for the same reason. Piracy was the one reason I could see for companies to go all DLC which is something that I am sorely against.
Piracy hurts all of us. Every one of us that pays for a legal copy is hurt by everyone that buys a pirated copy.
I am now waiting for the whinging to start like it did when people who were cheating gamerscore lost their accounts. I wait with baited breath for the refrain of "but I only paid teh $100 dollarz to mod my 360 to play teh legal backups of mah gamezzzzz." OH PLEASE.
If you have a modded xbox don't despair. There is a bright side. The shorter and shorter single player modes that you all haven't had to worry about because you just love your multiplayer, you can at least still play those. Um, once you go buy them for real. I guess. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!

This is a rant. It is only a rant. Please do not adjust your set.
So, for anybody that doesn't know, I just dropped a completely sick amount of money on a CE ofCoD MW2. Why did I do this. A) because 1 was so good I knew this would be epic. B)For all the cool **** that comes in the CE or C)because I am that one that is born every minute.
Yeah, I know, you all picked C.
Why, oh why must I always get sucked into the machine that is CE's. Nevermind that I just blew enough money to purchase 3 yes count them 3 new games, I did it for a game that is 4 hours long in single player mode. YES I AM SERIOUS!!!
This would be the part where the rant comes in. WHY IS STUPID MULTIPLAYER ******** BEING THRUST UPON MY UNWILLING SELF. WHY DO I HAVE TO GO HANG OUT WITH PEOPLE I DO NOT LIKE IN ORDER TO FEEL I GOT MY MONIES WORTH WHEN I BUY A GAME?MAYBE I WILL GET LUCKY AND MY FRIENDS WILL BE PLAYING BUT WHAT IF THEY AREN'T? WHY IS ALL DLC GEARED TOWARDS MULTIPLAYER? WHAT IF I HAVE NO DESIRE TO HANG AROUND WITH 10 YEAR OLDS TELLING EACH OTHER TO GO **** A BISON? WHAT IF ALL MY FRIENDS HAPPEN TO BE PLAYING SOME ******* RPG THAT I DON'T WANNA PLAY? YOU PEOPLE (AND I USE THE TERM LOOSELY) THAT ARE DESIGNING ALL THIS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER ******** JUST STOP IT. i SWEAR TO MY DOG, i AM GOING TO STOP BUYING GAMES. I COULD SPEND THE NEXT 40 YEARS PLAYING ONES I ALREADY HAVE AND I WOULDN'T MAKE A DENT AND PROBABLY HAVEENOUGH MONEY WITH ALL THE MONEY I DIDN'T SPEND TO BUY YOU******* AND FIRE ALL OF YOUR ******SO JUST STOP IT. I don't care if there is multiplayer. Lots of people like that sort of thing. I suppose. Although I don't seem to know many. Other then Robert. And maybe James. But still, come on. Don't rob me of my game. That doesn't seem fair to me. Be reasonable. There are still hundreds of thousands of people on dial up for **** sake. They certainly aren't able to take part in multiplayer.
I am so very ***** *** right now. You have no idea. I may even take it back. I've never done that in my entire history as a gamer, but I am seriously considering it.

Sometimes all there is to do is shake your head
My very good friend Seth has once again put forth a very intelligent and well written blog which can be found here and is definitely worth the read. I think the thing I look forward to most when Seth comes to stay at my place over the Christmas holidays is some intelligent conversation about things gaming related. My son is good, but an 8 year old no matter what his IQ level can only take you so far.

Seths blog as it so often does, got me thinking about the topic he brought up and then an expanded version thereof. While Seth was talking about GS users and the closed minded and often mean spirited comments they were making about an article about a visually impaired gamer. That unto itself is pretty pathetic, but of course it got me thinking about GS users in general.
First off, as a community I think that GameSpot has some of the greatest people that have ever come together on the internet to share thoughts about their passion for gaming. I also think that the ones that are bad, are pretty damn bad. Other than Seths blog today, I see that my Friend Lucas is once again being stalked by the thumb down all the comments stalker. This is done for no reason other than to antagonize someone who is a really good guy. Lucas goes out of his way to be nice to everybody and for some reason this is what he gets in return. Then on the forums we have the people that take pleasure in making others feel small.
I braved the forums last night. As you all know, I almost never go there. The tone of the forums has changed dramatically over the last couple of years. I used to post in them fairly regularly. Now a couple of times a year is about my limit. I did what I find I always do when confronted with the grace and charm that is the forums lately. I posted and ran. It makes me really kind of sad and angry that I feel I have to do that though.
Last night in the space of about 20 minutes I came across these shining examples of everything that is wrong with the internet. On a thread about theology. OMG are we going to talk about this AGAIN? Anyone who believes XXX has obviously never opened a textbook or they are functionally slow. (that is not verbatim, just the general gist. The moderators do not take posts like that kindly and thankfully it was quickly removed). I am not a fan of religious threads but I do believe that when handled properly a lot of very good discussion can be had. It was a religious blog that actually brought me and someone I hold in very high regard together over the internet.I am not religious, but I do firmly support anyone that is.
A poster started a thread about something that happened yesterday that was news worthy. It was something that I had not read yet. The poster provided a link and his thoughts on the subject. He or she was immediately hit with OLD, Why don't you post some current news, and OMG this is soooooo old. This article was only hours old. Gamespot was the first place I heard anything about it. This one bothers me simply because I do not have all day to hit the F5 button every two seconds. People eventually will just stop posting stuff much like I did because they are tired of seeing this. How about if you have already seen the article or been made aware of it somehow just move on to the next thread. Maybe some of us, you know those of us with jobs and such have not seen it yet.
Then you have the know it all. Rule 1 for the know it all is that they are always right. Rule 2 is that if you do in fact find a flaw with their logic, see rule 1. You know the ones. No matter what argument you bring forth, no matter where you stand on a particular issue, you are wrong and they are right. They are always right. Even if you have irrefutable proof that they are incorrect, see rule 1. This bothers me because threads which could otherwise be interesting and productive are quickly turned into a bickering match between a couple of posters.
Then of course you have my personal favorites the grammar and spelling police. I love them. I myself am not always grammatically correct. My spelling on occasion needs help as well. I do realize that there is a spell check button and I am sure everyone else does too. If we choose not to use it so what. Even if someone has used an incorrect word, or misspelled something almost everyone can make out what the person is trying to say. Why do the grammar and spelling police feel compelled to point out the shortcoming of others to them? Does it somehow make them feel better about themselves. Do you think they go to bed with a sense of accomplishment because I comes before E except after C DAMMIT!!
Once in a while from the forums you will even get your very own stalker. I got one once. Eventually they found someone else to haunt and left me alone. All because I posted something about a console that they did not agree with. I had a very solid argument backed by data and user testimonial. My point was that even though it is my go to console it is not infallible. That was all. From that I got harassing PM's, rude comments in my blogs and because my email is public, a ton of very creepy emails.
The only forum I enjoy at all anymore is ask the mods. Sadly, I don't know if I enjoy it because the people that are doing these things to make the forums less enjoyable are being called out for it or if it is because none of the know it all, smart alec, told ya so posters are allowed to jump in and say anything. I wish everyone would read ask the mods. Read and comprehend. The forums would be ever so much more inviting if everyone would just learn the rules of GS and try and abide by them.
Reminder: (remember I did warn you about this) I still need several addresses for Christmas cards. You know who you are. That is all.......until my next blog.
