I have been gone for several days because of my work situation. I have been going in at 6:00 AM and working to 5:00 PM with no lunches. That is the easy part. The hard part to me is that I have to drive almost an hour and a half to get there. I lose 3 hours per day on the road.

As difficult as it has been lately, I found myself in a very challenging situation today. I have six employee's who work for me. They have also been having a stressful time even to the point that the best of the group had to take a couple of days off in order to get himself together. 3 months ago I brought this girl in through a temp agency because I had a bad experience with the previous employee that I hired. She is not making a lot of money, but her 90 days ends on Monday. I am certain that she is expecting a raise. I talked with my boss today who is the president of our division and he told me that we would hire her, but at the same rate that she is making now. She will now have really good benefits, which she has not had, however her pay rate is going to stay the same until she goes through 90 days probation actually working for the company.

Even though I disagree, I am going to have to break the news that she is not getting a raise but yet still expect her to work just as hard as she has been. Are the benefits worth not getting a raise? Is the company doing her wrong in this situation? How would you respond if it were you? Do I care too much to be a good manager?

I was listening to some podcasts on my iPod and I heard a good interview with a couple of the behind the scene's guys on Babylon 5. I thought the show was great when it was on. The effects, the stories, the way the characters interacted with each other were very enjoyable to me.

Was that show before its time or was it just not as good as I thought it was?

I am a podcast listener and last night as I went to update my iPod, I found some very interesting news. On Tuesday, Apple (MAC) announced the release of the Video iPod. That sounded pretty cool, but what would you put on it. I went on to see that they have partnered with ABC and they are selling each episode of "LOST" for $1.99 to down load to your video iPod. They had a couple of other shows, but I found it very nice that a show such as Lost would be the main attraction on a major technology release such as that. They also were selling the whole season for like $35.

I also found a couple of other interesting items during my search of the new items. Marty's song Tree's has now been released as a single on iTune's. Journey has a new Album (CD, song thingy, or whatever you call it now).

The last piece of news I actually found out today. Marty will be opening for INXS. Maybe they are realizing that they needed someone good to at least save them from total disaster.

Do anyone have an iPod and what do you think of the future of portable TV?

On Friday of last week, some very good friends of our family had a child. However, they had some very serious complications. Yesterday at 4:00 in the evening, the child died. It was a terrible situation. I cannot imagine what they are feeling right now. It really made my troubles all seem kind of lame.

My heart really goes out to these guys. They plan to have the funeral tomorrow.

What do you say to someone going through something like that?

Show of the week - Invasion

Well danasdude and I went to see Serenity this weekend. I thought it rocked. For a show that got canned way before its time, this was my kind of movie. A rip roaring ride.

My wife and I watched White Noise tonight. It was a surprisingly good movie also. Michael Keaton had a good showing. This time he did a real spook movie. I still miss him in Beetlejuice though. That was a classic.

Danasdude made me new banner for my page. I love it.

I did get a chance to listen to the new INXS song. It sucks!!

That is about the extent of my week. I am curious though, what is the fastest way to move up a level? Blogs? Reviews? Forum Posts?
  • 8Oct 05
The only TV that I got to watch today was Tennessee get smacked by Georgia. However I began wondering about some things on this site and I have decided that this is a cult. I started using this site because danasdude was telling me about it. I harmlessly signed up, put up a blog, a couple reviews, and instantly became a level 2. After many posts, comments, reviews, etc. I got the beloved Soup Nazi status. I have been at that level for a week now but I have been logging in every day. I have seen people who have not made the level 5+ status get black listed because they complained that no one wrote on their blogs. I have started a theory that TV.com is a cult. You quickly get a level 2 upgrade to make you feel like a part. A few people comment on your blog to get you hooked. Then you start to feel the pressure to put every thought you have about every TV show on earth to obtain a Ginsu Knife. You spend countless hours watching shows and paying close attention because your might get a bonus prize of an icon of a crown!! Who is the leader of this new found cult? Based on the information I have I believe it is none other than the famous HappyYellowBall.

Do not get too worked up though. I am a believer and really do want people to write on my blog so I too can one day be a Church Lady.

However I will not buy a box of Amway soap from anyone!!

Yes, I have watched The Apprentice-Martha Stewart this season. I keep waiting to see someone get hit with a dough roller. The only thing that bothers me about it though, is that it seems so limited compared to the real apprentice. The cast is great, but it seems that the contests are going to be much more limited. Because it is Martha, you are not going to see a Pizza contest or people seeing who the best was at coming up with a new Pepsi ad.

I loved the last show thought because it really showed what Martha was all about, SALES. It did not matter who did the best job or who just terribly stunk, it was who did the worst job at sales. When ever you go buy a kids book or Laundy basket and it looks great or will fit just right in that room, it is probably because someone in sales thought of taking your money with it before you were ever born.

Martha is ruthless, almost evil. Her "Women do not cry in business" approach comes across as anything but the sweet woman who came up with those cupcakes you ate last night. However, there is something appealing about her which I think is what bring people to the show and her stuff. Just think about this. Martha fires someone and then she writes them a note to thank them for being there and basically to tell them how sorry she is that it did not work out. It seems to me that if you worked for her, she would be a boss who would crap on you and make you like it.

I like the show and I am not really sure why. I think it is because I find some entertainment value by seeing someone work their butt off, fall flat on their face, and then get run over by a steam roller. Does that make me a bad person?

I really enjoyed Lost again. Another great episode for the guys on the beach. I cannot understand how they can have you asking more questions than they answer each week but I like it. The thing I like most about this show is that it makes me think.

It seems to me that the shows of today are a lot smarter than the shows from the past. You have CSI verses Dragnet, Six Millon Dollar Man, and even The Rockford Files. Even though I enjoyed those shows on some level, they do not bring the same type of stimulation to my brain. I could eat a pizza upside down and watch Miami Vice at the same time because there is no pressure on my brain. But I am sitting in the upright position with my tray table stowed in the locked position when I watch they new shows. With the new level of writing on these shows, it just amazes me that they keep it going from week to week.

Smart TV? BSG, 24, Prison Break, Lost...

Can you name some other ones?

I know this is a shameless plug, but check out Darkerprojects.com. This is some of the more "fun" writing in the SciFi world.

I really enjoyed last night episode of Prison Break. A huge baseball fan from way back, but I am still disappointed that I have to wait for three weeks to catch the next show. I was interested to read in the TV Guide article that dude did not know that Prison Break would be on when he appeared in the pilot episode of Ghost Whisper.
Does anyone know how a show could be filmed or in production without knowing the show will be picked up? It just seems to me that there would be so much money invested as well as time and energy. Why would you go to the trouble if you did not know the show would at least have a chance to make it?

Show of the week - Prison Break

It has been several days sinece I have been able to write. My wife had 6 teeth removed and I have to kind of take care of her for a few days. I also had yearly golf outing this weekend. It was fun but there were only 2 on our team for a 4 man scamble. The bad part is that neither of us were golfers. I was shocked to see that we did not come in last place.

Let me run through some of my TV notes for the week. Survivor was necessary but kind of anti-climatic to me. I'm kind of impressed by the Martha Stewart apprentice.

The show of the week to me however was Prison Break. As I sit here thinking back about the shows that I watched, that is the on e that I think of the most.

What a royal bummer. None of the Tuesday night shows taped. Something must have went wrong with my DVR and now there is a hole in my TV show watching. Well since TV is out of the question for me from last night, I guess I will watch Lost tomorrow night. (I checked and it did tape).

Well I set my Tivo to record "House" starting last week. I watched it last night. I had to say it was a very enjoyable show. The charaters are interesting. I must admit when the plot started I thought to myself "what are the odds" of this happening to anyone in real life. However, after a few minutes I was wondering if House was going to be the hero or the villan. When I got done, I still had the same question. There was something likable about the guy though. Funny yet interesting. It was a good show in opinion. It will definately get a couple weeks of Tivo for me.

The other show that I caught was "Surface". I was not impressed with that show however. Threshold was much better and it was not in the same league as Lost. I can't see where it fits into my weekly lineup. I'm strongly considering removing it from the list.

Show of the week - Lost

If anyone was wondering why these guys won an Emmy, just watch the show for about 5 minutes. I finally got to watch this weeks show and all I could say was "WOW". I wondered if they would be able to capture the magic that they had last year, but after Season 2 Show 1 I can say without a doubt they nailed it. I can't wait for next week. I am kind of hope that these guys stay lost so they I will have something great to watch each week.

If anyone is into Podcast's, checkout the Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd

If your a muisc person, check out the Live CD of Maroon 5

Well I got to finish the start of the new season of Medium last night. I enjoy this show in some warped its not exactly Scifi but too weird not to be sort of way. They did a good job of finishing last season. I was not a raving fan of show one of season two however. I did not like the tense feelings between husband and wife. Why can't a husband be supportive of his dead people seeing wife? Overall however, it still looks like it will be a decent show for the fall. It's not exactly Lost though.

I haven't caught the Lost opener yet but the Tivo is tempting me so maybe tonight.

I know that by now it is old news but I still feel the need to pay my respects to the fallen shows of summer.

Rock Star. We that stinks is about all I can say about that. JD? Maybe he does fit the band. Neither are great and they both make you question whether or nor they are even any good. Marty and Mig desevered to win more, but I would buy their solo albums long before I got the new INXS album.

Big Brother. The best of the worst is what they got there. Maggie was a lot less annoying than the nerd queen. It was a good season but the end was..... can I say "DULL"

I only got to watch Surface last night. However it was a shocking show. It was on my radar as a "I will check it out but it will not be good" kind of show. It turned out as a surprise. It is not Lost, but it was a pretty solid start to a show. I will certainly be interested to see if to see if they can pull of week two and three.

Tonight is the end of BB and Rock Star. A moment of silence and then lets rock!!! How about another round of "Trees".

Show of the week - Survivor

I still have some Tivo to watch such as Thresh-hold and BSG. I did want to write a quick post however to give my predictions on the end of the summer.

After seeing last night's Rock Star, it looks like the tide is changing a little. The song selection for Marty and Mig is certainly going to put them at a disadvantage. I think Mig has the best voice remaining. Marty is the most talented. Therefore my prediction is that JD will come out on top and we will find that the means was a lot better than the end. Who is INXS anyway? I want to see Rock Star Van Halen. The last I heard they were in the market.

Big Brother. Now there is a real bummer. Loud Mouth should loose. Maggie is the clear winner to me and I hope the jury sees it that way. Poor Janette really deserved it, but I'm not bitter. (Go Kaiser)

This looks like the beginning of the Fall season week and so you know what that means. A NEW LOST!!

Show of the week - Battlestar Galactica

The new seasons are starting and it should be a blast.

Battlestar last week was great. How do you manage to get Xena in a show and she was so good that you forgot it was the same person. Wow, what an ending. Those guys never fail to please.

Rock Star is nearing the end and all of the girls are gone. I want the Jourdis album. My bet is on Mig at this point. JD is a jerk and Marty looks like something from a horror movie. However, "Trees" was an awesome song. Despite the ratings, I have really enjoyed the show.

Big Brother is also closing out the summer season. Howie will go down in history. April needed the boot. J needs to win it. Not only was she the luckiest person in any game I've ever seen, but she has outplayed everyone (plus she is the least annoying of the people left).

Prison Break break gets a major thumbs up!! Great new show.

Star Trek Fans will be happy to she that "Dark Projects" has put their Section 31 shows on a podcast on iTunes. It is a very well done series of audio shows based on the Start Trek world, but with a new fresh story to them. The acting is great and the production is second to none.

Fox has started a great ting in the world of podcasting as well. All of their new run shows, they broadcast a story form summery of the show on its own podcast.

Finally, in the world of music the is only one clear winner this week...... "Trees"
