My Friends

My Words and Such

  • 16Dec 08
Yep. I'm alive. I kinda got tired of the gaming for a while, well, since my last blog, but I'm back now because of Christmas. Got a 360 Elite, so now I have all 3 systems. FInally. Let the unbiased gaming times roll! My mom was a jerk and decided to tell me she bought it for me, brought it in, showed it to me, and then said hey have fun waiting a month to get it. Cruel? Absolutely. Now I just need to work on getting the games I want. Before that though, I need to figure out which ones I actually want.

Probably Halo 3 for online good times.
GeOW2 for that same reason I suppose.
Madden because I got rid of it on my PS3 and I've been missing it big time.
Fable 2 because it looks leaps and bounds better than the first.
Both Naruto games because I'm crazy on those, mostly the reason I wanted a 360 again.

After that, I'm pretty much stumped. Any suggestions? Also, how's everyone here been doing? Tell me what I've missed.

DON'T play it. You won't stop. Trust me.

    Uh, it's amazing.

    Get it.

    Play it.

    Feel the awesome.

I thought I had a man-crush on GTA4. Well snap son, you haven't even heard the word masterpiece until you put this game in your PS3. Finally the PS3's killer app? Oh hells yeah. Oh, and MGO = funnest online shooter experience ever. GS better get a tournament going soon because I'd renew my subscription just to enter that goodness.

I got Snake's Revenge in the mail today, in perfect condition as Metal Gear was also, plus I was in the middle of procuring the second disc of MGS3 this morning and I forgot my box in my room, (sorry anfangs, I'm ashamed), and so she caught me, and just as I was about to throw her over my shoulder and choke her and take her back to the truck Portable Ops style since she has an A in technical skill, she told me to just have it, and then I revealed I stole one anyway so good that she said ok. So now, my point of the blog, is that my Metal Gear collection is now COMPLETE, excluding MGS4 of course, and not counting MGA and MGA2 since I hate those. So now before I continue Portable Ops I'm gonna play through MGS3 so I can get the beginning of the story. Happy times in my house.

So I think all this MGS playing is having an effect on my daily life. As I've said plenty of times lately, I just bought Metal Gear 1 and 2 for the NES and MGS3 Subsistance for the PS3 as Christmas presents to myself. I convinced my mom to pay for MGS3 for me as a Christmas present, but I wasn't expecting to have to wait to play it. It came today, and Metal Gear came yesterday. I was playing Metal Gear and remembered how easy games are nowadays compared to old games, as I could barely make it anywhere on that game. Anyway, MGS3 came, and I opened it and it was still sealed, perfectly, just as the auction said, so I got a great deal, as you can't find that anywhere new anymore. Well my mom saw it and asked if that was what she got me for Christmas, and I said yes, stupidly, as then she immediately took it. Well that made me angry, so I decided I'd do what the little Solid Snake inside me would, and went on a mission to procure at least one of the discs out of the case, hoping my mom wouldn't find out and wrap it, leaving me with the game to play freely. I put on my metaphorical bandana, as to not be seen, and snuck stealthily into my mom's room and procured the second disc, which I am playing as we speak. Snake one, mom zero.

Tomorrow I'm getting The Orange Box since UPS lost the box the Gamestop here was supposed to be getting it in. I will then proceed to play the crap out of Portal, Team Fortress, and maybe even play a little HL2, as I hear that's included. Good times will be had by all, and then I'll be crying in a corner since I won't have UT3 until Christmas, and maybe not even then. I didn't think through my money situation enough, or I'd be a proud owner of both tomorrow. I'm not sure whether I'm more stoked for UT or OB. Nah, who am I kidding, I'm more stoked for UT. Well bed time because I'm a tired sissy. I'll make a longer blog tomorrow probably, if I can pull myself away from my PS3 for long enough since I have the day off. Farewell folks.

I leveled up, which is awesome. I can finally play Final Fantasy XI, which is also awesome. I moved to a bigger room in my house, with a MUCH better internet connection, which is really awesome. I just beat Metal Gear Solid for the PSOne, which is even more awesome. I can't believe I hadn't played through that game before. My mom got me MGS 3 Subsistance on eBay brand new and sealed so that I can play through that awesomeness, and Whitney just bought me MGS Portable Ops, which I played a bit of this morning, and can safely say is awesome also. Plus I still have MGS2 which I will enjoy playing, and I also bought Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge for the NES, which will be awesome to play too. You could say I've been on a MGS tangent lately, right? Well hell yes, because I had no idea what I was missing out on. Well FFXI calls. I'll be around.

I got two very great games today, and I'm extremely happy about them. The lady wanted to open Elf, so she agreed to let me open a present. I told her to surprise me so she brought Puzzle Quest for me, and after only a few minutes of playing I'm very pleased with what I played of it. The other game my friend gave to me for Christmas because I gave him his present today, and what I asked for from him was Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, and that's by far my favorite game on my DS right now. I loved Pokemon, and I am a huge fan of Dragon Quest, and putting the two together makes the best game I've ever played on a handheld. I'm going to make a review in the next day or two because I need to get this game known and popular, because it deserves it by a long shot. I guess that's all I have right now.

If you haven't listened to the Hotspot from yesterday yet, I highly recommend doing so. After listening to that, I've decided I should stick around, just for a little while longer at least, because while I'm extremely angry at CNET and whoever else was behind the Jeff firing, I haven't been giving the rest of the folks on the GS team enough credit, because while this has been hard on us as GS subscribers, regular members, or whatever, it's also been hard on the current employees. We're mad, sure, but they're mad too. I've been spending my time at IGN, and I still plan on visiting there, but the community here is just too hard to leave. I've made a lot of friends here and met a lot of cool people, and that's pretty hard to walk away from. Those friends I've made here I haven't even met in real life, and yet walking away and not talking to those important people every day like I have been is a hard thing to just push aside, no matter how pissed CNET makes me. I'm sure I had a point here, but that point is slipping my mind right now. I just think it's important that we wait this out and give the people still running this site a chance and let them try to start this place up again and return it to the level of credibility and high quality of news, reviews, and videos it was known for.

Apart from that, I'm still gaming. I got Super Smash Bros. Melee at a pawn shop yesterday in nearly perfect condition, better condition than my old copy was, for only FIVE BUCKS. Buy it new for 30, or buy it at a pawn shop for 5. Easy decision, I'd say. I also found my copy of Wind Waker a couple days ago so I plan on playing that again. Way underrated I think. anyway, I think that's pretty much all I had to say, so I guess for now I'm back. Lets make GS the place to go for gaming again, for all our sakes.

I was floating around for a day or two, just sort of surfing everywhere, debating whether or not I was actually going to leave GS or not, and I've made my decision. I'm gone. No surprise though, as most folks are. If you want to keep in touch and have some sort of messenger service or whatever, maybe we can keep in touch that way since people don't seem to go to IGN. Email me at jimboboklashaur@mac.com and then we'll take it from there. I might come by from time to time to check on things, just to see if the site gets any better, but other than that my time won't be here. Anyway, for those of you who I talk to it'd be nice to keep in touch so please get a hold of my email. Keep gaming and I hope all of you enjoy your stay at Gamespot.

So I think I've just come across the last straw with my stay here at Gamespot. I was sticking around for the community, and I was getting my reviews, game news, and everything else over at IGN. After hearing about Gerstmann being fired for the Kane and Lynch review, I've had enough now. If any of you have IGN please let me know because I don't plan on sticking around here for much longer, even though I've been a member for 4 or 5 years or whatever it's been. I'll still be around a bit for now but don't plan on seeing me nearly as much on here as I'll be spending my time on IGN.

Today I'm going to Gamestop so I can trade in a trillion things and get one of the Limited Edition Zelda DS packs, with a golden DS with the triforce on it, and with Phantom Hourglass with it. I'll give that to the lady since I already have it, but the lovely new DS is mine. This will be my third DS Lite, and my fourth total DS. I'm also looking into buying FFXI so I can play some online Final Fantasy, something I've been excited about for a while. I'm also playing more of Silent Hill 0rigins, and it's a freaking blast. Other than that, nothing new has been going on at all. I guess that's all.

It's cold. I must cuddle with my PSP and a blanket and play into the wee hours of the night. Anyone hate cold like I do?

So the lady and I were bored today and decided we would take a trip to some pawn shops today to look for splendid deals. We had gone yesterday and I found the original Super Smash Bros. for i think only 10 bucks, if not it was 15, but either way that's a hell of a deal considering it goes for around 30 usually on ebay. I love going to pawn shops because most of the time they don't know what kind of gems they have in their hands. Well today I found Xenosaga I for 3.99, which I jumped at immediately. Then we went to a different shop, one that I knew would have some winners. I picked up an expansion pack, Goldeneye, and Waverace 64 all for 17.99, which is also a winner in my book. Nothing else really interesting has been going on, so I guess that's all I had to say. I'm off to enjoy my classic PS2 RPG goodness now and beat up on some 64 bit Nintendo characters, with expansion-ized graphics!

So thanks to a friend's referral a couple days ago, I decided to use my PS3 for it's PS1 downloadable capabilities, and downloaded Castlevania. It was my first venture into the Castlevania series, so spending the 10 bucks was a little hard to do, but the friend and I usually enjoy the same type of game, and so if he said he loves it, I most likely would too. I sure do. And now I'm being a Castlevania slut and planning on asking for both DS Castlevania games for Christmas, as well as possible eBay venturing to get actual original Castlevania goodness. I can't believe what I was missing out on all these years. Looking back now, I feel really deprived, and a little dirty on the inside. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to get my fix now.

Tomorrow is Assassin's Creed in my hands, which will amount to loads of fun times. I kept forgetting to post it but I beat GH3 on hard a week ago or so on hard because it's still impossible for me to beat Raining Blood on expert. That's all that is standing between me and Lou on expert and it's killing me. Bought a few more blu-ray movies and I'm pleased with them, plus there's awesome ones out today and I have close to no money and that is also killing me. I'll have a pretty huge Christmas list this year, and I never do, so people better take advantage of that. Is it me or does it seem like whenever people want to get you stuff you want nothing, but when something like Christmas comes along and you actually have stuff you want you never get any of it? People better save up. I better save up more though.

The more games the PS3 gets, the more impressed and the more satisfied I become with my system. I played the Uncharted demo today. I was thinking beforehand that I would hate the game, and I was completely against it, but I figure what the hell, I'll give it a try. I would've missed out on quite a gem had I not downloaded the demo. Uncharted is definitely a game I have to pick up, and with Assassin's Creed coming out the same week, I'll be very very poor next week. Hey Whitney baby, wanna know what I want for Christmas/anniversary/random gift next week? Hehe I'm off to play Guitar Hero now. Everyone tell me how they're doing, or something interesting. Anything, I wanna hear it all.

Today has been amazing, flat out amazing.

My girlfriend Whitney bought me component cables for my brand new Samsung 26" LCD HDTV since i was poor (after buying the tv ) so no lag and amazing graphics are finally upon my PS3 Plus a while back she bought me the component cables for my slim PSP so I played a little Manhunt 2 on my Samsung and also popped in Silent Hill the movie to see how the movie quality was, and I'm pleased.

Speaking of Silent Hill, I picked up Origins so I can play that beauty now, AND to top it all off, my team advanced in the Resistance tourney, and we actually played this game, so I'm excited on all sorts of levels now. Oh, and I thought Lair looked good on my SDTV, well s*** does it look great on the Samsung. All my games do, actually. I'm mega pleased right now, and the Mrs. is playing some Guitar Hero so I think I'll go watch her. Wish me luck tomorrow, quarter finals are just over the horizon. Or something dumb and symbolic such as that.

I was bored, and I wanted to review another game, so I reviewed one I've been playing quite frequently the past few days, that game being Manhunt 2. If you're thinking about buying or even renting the game, give my review a read and tell me what you think. Or if you've played the game let me know what you think. Either way, my brain wants your brain's thoughts.

I was skeptical, but after playing, I can honestly say I CAN'T WAIT for this game. God of War is an amazing game, even for being hack and slash, which I'm not usually a fan of. Having a portable version of this is going to be AWESOME, just as it's awesome to have a portable Manhunt and as awesome as it will be having a portable Silent Hill. The demo is pretty short, but it's extremely satisfying. I'm looking very much forward to picking this up in March.
