    Aug 11th 2007 – November 29th 2009

Yesterday, I had to bid adieu to my PS3 as it caught the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death). There were no signs of my system conking off anytime soon, but as I was playing Uncharted 2 yesterday the game froze for a couple of seconds and the system shut down. I then try pressing the PS button on my controller to switch it on, but nothing happens! I try manually switching it by sliding my finger over the Power button and the PS3 makes a small beep, like usual, but this time it made another beep and for a second I saw what I feared I would one day see on my PS3…a yellow light. I didn't panic and instead tried again…nope, no dice. I must have switched it on and off 10 times or so till I just gave up and decided to do some research on the YLOD.

I turns out the YLOD happens to 'select' 60GB PS3's. No fair…here I thought I had a rare model, since Sony discontinued manufacturing the 60GB model for the 40GB and SLIM models. My warranty got over last year so I'm screwed…and I have no intentions of paying Sony $150 to 'repair' my system. In all likelihood they will reformat my HDD, erasing all my save files, so I thought I might as well get a new console. Oh and then there's the Uncharted 2 disc STILL in the PS3, which unfortunately belongs to my cousin! I still haven't told him about what happened to my PS3 because I'm sure he'll freak out (he also bought the 60GB model the same day I did), and on top of that If I say his Uncharted 2 disc is still in there he'll kill me!

So now comes the big question, what do I do now? Well, I'm surely buying a new console…the only thing is, do I get an X360 or a PS3 SLIM. After everything that's happened to my PS3, a sane person would probably pick the former console as his/her next choice…but the thing is…I LOVED my PS3. I don't care about how many games the X360 has and how much the Wii has sold…the fact that I enjoyed playing games on the PS3 is enough for me to warrant another purchase. Nothing's confirmed yet so if you think I should go for either the X360/Wii let me know in the comments section

P.S: For those who own a 60GB PS3, please take good care of it. Dust off the vents every month and try to give it some rest from time to time. The reason I think my PS3 died was because I played too much Assassin's Creed II and Uncharted 2, and in the process I over-heated the system. Please don't make the same mistake that I did...treasure your PS3 as if it was a brother to you

I'm keeping things to a bare minimal today *yay for short blogs * I recently got Dissidia: Final Fantasy on the PSP and Batman: Arkham Asylum on the PS3. Played Dissidia for a good 15 hours and even reviewed it. Gamespotters check it out if you have the time and recommend it if you liked it, otherwise give it a thumbs down

    http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/dissidiafinalfantasy/player_review.html?id=677819&tag=player-reviews;continue

I also got Arkham Asylum a day before it launched and am absolutely loving it. Finished it in 3 sittings and will try to platinum it as soon as possible I might also post a review of it if I have the time

That is all, take care guys!

I've recently decided to clean up my friends list after seeing that only a handful of my 400+ friends actually comment on my blog. I've removed around 335 friends and am now tracking only 92 from the previous total of 426, so if you have not been commenting on my blogs from time to time, then chances are you are out of my friend's list...sorry, but it's frustrating when I make an effort to comment on EACH and EVERY one of your blogs and in return you can't spend a minute to read and make a comment on mine. I know my blogs aren't editorial worthy and I do make grammatical errors from time to time, but I don't see why that's the reason many of you decide not to make a comment. Out of 426 friends, it seems like only 20 of you actually read my blog...now there's a statistic for you As for those 92 still in my fiend's list, I thank you so much for taking time to post on my blog...your comments mean the world to me

Also I have less than 15 days till college begins *yikes*. I've enjoyed these past couple of months sitting at home, watching movies and playing games and this is the 1st time that I actually want to get out of my house and go out somewhere...anywhere...anywhere but home. Guess that's what's 4 months of holidays will do to you. So when do you guys have to start school or college? And for those of you who have already finished college, any tips on what I have to take to college and stuff like that?

Ugh...I'm probably running out of stuff to write up if the only thing I can think to blog about is a demo; but at least it's a good demo Batman: Arkham Asylum is without a doubt one of my most awaited games this year just behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Uncharted 2. I've been keeping track of this game ever since it was announced and was hoping beyond belief that this would finally be a good game that the Batman franchise so rightfully deserves.

    The title screen looks AWESOME!

The demo starts off with a cutscence that pretty much explains why Batman is at Arkham Asylum. The Joker was captured almost too easily and Batman wasn't too comfortable with that. As the security team escorts the Joker to his cell, he breaks free and traps Batman within Arkham Asylum and all of its nut jobs.

You get to take control of Batman after the cutscence and immediately are tasked to take out a couple of henchmen which acts as the tutorial section for the game.

Hey Oracle, get me a club sandwich would ya

Once you've dispatched the goons, Joker let's you into the main halls where you meet up with an officer who tells you that another officer, Mike, is taken hostage by the psycho Mr. Zsasz and will kill him if he see Batman; which leads you to your next objective, taking out Zsasz without being detected.

Zsasz won't be much of a treat and once you get behind him, a single button press will take him out. After this you pass a ventilation duct and are faced with yet another challenge; 4 armed henchmen. Again, you have to climb the rafters and take a stealthier approach picking one guard at a time.

The final portion of the demo requires you to use all the skills you've learned so far in taking out a group of henchmen fanned out across a wide open area.

The demo wraps up with a cutscence which could possibly lead to a boss fight

I was hoping the demo would have been a bit longer but 15 minutes is better than nothing right? (I still remember that Heavenly Sword demo which lasted like 5 minutes and was around 1GB...what kind of a demo was that?!?!) Anyways, I was really impressed with the demo and as I'm typing this, I've played it 7 times and still feel like playing it some more. The graphics were top notch and Arkham Asylum felt like it had a life of its own. At 1st I was a bit skeptical about the combat system used in the game, but after playing the demo, I'm now reassured that the combat will be fast paced and not based purely on button mashing. The voice acting was great, especially the voice of Mark Hamill as The Joker. Every time I play this I get a sense of nostalgia because it reminds me of the 1992 Batman: The Animated Series (that was the best Batman series EVER!)

All in all, the demo looks great and plays great and I can only expect great things from the game when it comes out this month. Its one thing watching gameplay videos of the game and hoping it's good and it's another thing to actually try out the game and see for yourself how it plays out.

    Gamespot Score Prediction: 9/10

    ^^ Yes it's that good!

E3 '09 has started off with a bang and there's still 2 more days left of live streaming from the show floor. As promised, my next blog would be E3 related and here it is. I'll be giving my impressions on the 5 major conferences that toke place this year at E3 starting with Microsoft.

    Microsoft @E3

Microsoft had a good E3 '08 and had some good games last year, but this year it fell somewhat flat and exclusives like Halo Wars and Ninja Blade didn't shine. The advantage that M$ brought into this year's E3 was that nobody had any idea what to expect from them this year. Everything was kept under wraps. The Beatles Rock Band was the first game to be shown during their conference and it looked pretty good. The opening cinematic for the game was pretty cool as well. Also the living band members of The Beatles made an appearance and talked a bit about the game. Next up Tony Hawk made an appearance and showed of Tony Hawk Ride for the first time but did not play the game live during the show which was a bummer.

    Tony Hawk Ride

After that one of my most anticipated games this year was shown, Modern Warfare 2. Live footage was shown and so far, looks to be a great sequel. The snowmobile sequence was awesome and the intro sequence where you had to climb up the snowy cliff was great. We then see some gameplay footage of Final Fantasy XII. Nothing new to see here, except that the entire demo is in English

    FF XIII

Next up a couple of exclusives are shown, the 2 worth mentioning are Left 4 Dead 2 and Crackdown 2. Now things start to get interesting as Splinter Cell Conviction is shown for the first time. The game looks much more fast paced which in my opinion is a welcome change. Also you're mission objectives come on screen as if they are being projected to you which is pretty neat when you look at it. The below image is an example which shows you're mission objective as "Infiltrate the Mansion"

    Convictions

This is one game that I wished would come to the PS3. From here on out lot's of new announcements, Forza 3, Halo Reach and new footage from Halo 3: ODST. The all looked pretty good especially Forza. Gameplay footage of Alan Wake is then showed and look spectacular. The whole narrative experience is something I've never before. A couple more announcements, Facebook and Twitter on X360 as well as Metal Gear Rising will be the first MGS game to appear on the X360.

Project Natal is announced for the first time and I'll have to say I was really impressed with all the possibilities. A couple of videos and a demonstration was shown, all good stuff.

The conference is almost at an end but not before Peter Molyneux gives his take on Natal and shows what is possible in the hands of a genius as himself. It's hard for me to describe what was shown but it was an interactive experience like none other before, so I'll just skip that

VERDICT: M$ started this year's E3 with a bang and in my opinion even eclipsed last year's powerful performance. It had a bunch of new exclusives, showed off some great footage and introduced Project Natal which was the biggest surprise.

    All in all great conference...8/10.

    EA @E3

Well I'll just get this off my chest before I continue, the this and the Ubi conference was just bad. I felt like going to sleep and the announcements were nothing great. EA however was the better of the 2 and even after a mediocre start (announcing 2 girly games WTF ) things started to pick up with a new trailer for Mass Effect 2 and footage for Need for Speed: Shift.

    Mass Effect 2

I really don't like sports games so footage of Fight Night Round 4 and an announcement for EA Sports: MMA didn't impress me one bit. The next bit had footage from EA Sports: Active which looked so lame.

The only reason I said the EA conference was better than the Ubi one was because of the following footage. Brutal Legend and The Saboteur look like 2 of the biggest EA games coming out this year. The demonstration of The Saboteur looked promising and sort of incorporates what Okami did and that is to bring back colour to the black and white city. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical about Brutal Legend the first time I heard about it, but every time I get to see more new footage, I start to like the game more and more.

    The Saboteur

    Brutal Lgend

EA saved the best for last and announced Star Wars The Old Republic. I'm not a big fan of the games but the trailer that they showed off looked brilliant. Defnitely the biggest announcement from their conference.

VERDICT: After the strong showing by M$, EA's conference was no match. Some cool announcements if you're an EA fan.

    Could have been better...5/10.

Alright that's all I can type for the day. Expect Part 2 of my E3 impressions sometime soon

  • 5May 09

Hello everyone, how are you doing? Just though of updating you all with everything that's going on with my life. Nah, actually I'll just cut to the good stuff since I'm sure most of you wouldn't really want to hear the boring life stories of a typical 17 year old...yeah... that would be me

So first up, Fallout 3. I just finished the game a couple of days back and what can I say, Bethesda did a great job of making a post-apocalyptic world that was well presented and in which the gamer would be sucked into even after the 20 hour campaign was over. It's a definite step up for the RPG genre and I can't wait to see Bethesda's next take on the series (Sorry Obisidian Entertainment, but Fallout: New Vegas is not the sequel I was talking about ) OK so now that I've finished the game with over 40 hours of gametime and with only 3 trophies left, I really want to do more in the Capital Wasteland apart from just killing people and what not. What I'm talking about is DLC. And how appropriate it is that Fallout 3 is one game that has a fair amount of DLC. 'Broken Steel' is the next DLC for the game and is made in such a way where it acts as an epilogue to the game's ending. Awesome I know but here's the catch, It's not coming to the PS3! Nice job Bethesda, you sure know how to thank all of your PS3 fans Here's a small tease of Broken Steel for all you Fallout fans

OK that's enough ranting for the day Now onto Movies.

I saw a fair few the past week. In theatres I saw 'Push' which was a 3rd rate action movie that failed miserably. I actually felt like walking out of the theatre! Yeah it was that bad! At home I saw a 1993 hit 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. I have to say the movie was really good and was backed up by a great soundtrack. One song that stood out for me was Sally's Song. So when the movie was over I went to youtube and searched for the video and found a cover song done by Amy Lee of Evanescence (Amy Lee rcoks!!!) I urge all of you who are reading this to follow the below link and hear the cover song. It's got an eerie feel it...

Sally's Song - Amy Lee Cover

Finally some game related news. Batman: Arkham Asylum is DELAYED...bummer I was really waiting to get my hands on this game come June but I guess I'll have to wait some more months. Also E3 is next month Can't wait to see the 3 main press conferences With that I will say bye to you all and expect a E3 related blog sometime next month

  • 10Apr 09

Hey everybody, it's been a long time since my last blog. I haven't blogged as much as I would have liked too, but with all the free time I have with me right now, I figured now would be the best time to return to blogging.

Alright, now that I've gotten that out of the way, how are you guys doing? Got any new games that I should try out? The three most recent games that I got were Guitar Hero: World Tour, Resistance: Retribution and the highly hyped up Resident Evil 5. I finished RE5 with a game time of 10hrs:10mins:10sec...cool time huh? Not as good as RE4, but is a game that is worth trying out nonetheless.

As for upcoming releases I'm eagerly awaiting June 9 where Batman:Arkham Asylum and Prototype will be released. With so many games coming out in the 3rd and 4th quarters this year, I begin to wonder whether I have the money to shell out on these AAA games. Maybe I should get a job...

Well technically this game is set for a 21st October release date, but well it appears Bioshock has broken the street date....cause I just got it!

The cover is similar to MGS4 in the sense it has an additional cover to it, which is pretty neat....and it's also holographic I haven't played the game yet, it's still installing. I played the demo twice and loved it. Anyways I'll update this tomorrow with my first impressions of Bioshock

[UPDATE] I've played over 15 hours of the game and I'm simply loving it. The graphics are fantastic, especially the water effects. The core FPS gameplay is great too and Bioshock really feels like your in the game. I've had a lot of fun so far, especially hunting down Little Sisters The story is very engrossing so far but I was expecting it to be better. I'm playing it on normal mode right now and it's fairly challenging, especially killing Big Daddies, cause I've only managed to kill one without dying and being revived by a Vita Chamber. I've also unlocked around 26% trophies which I'm fairly happy about considering it's my first playthrough. All in all I'm very impressed with this game and I now know why it won the 'Game Of The Year' award.

Alright so I was tagged by buffysummer, 5-0 and arab_prince, so here are 5 things you may not know about me.

    1) I'm actually from India but I'm doing my studies in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the time being.
    2) I love Metal music! Some of my favorite bands are Bullet for my Valentine, Element Eighty, Flyleaf, Godsmack, Killswitch Engage, Korn, Nightwish, Slipknot, System of a Down, Within Temptation and Zebrahead.
    3) I try my best to keep my stuff organized, whether its my games, music on my iPod, books, my clothes Yeah you get the idea.
    4) Ok some of you might know this. I go for Karate and I'm a Dan 1 Black Belt, and despite that I never get into fights…what a waste
    5) I hate "the great outdoors". I'd rather be home watching T.V and playing video games than going outside and smelling the tulips or something.

Ok now it's time to tag 5 of you guys who haven't made a '5 things you may…' blog before… *drum roll please*

Yup, today I turn 16…yay! Nothing special planned today since it's a weekday. My dad got me an 80GB iPod and I got 2 games, one from my mom and the other from my cousin. I got Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and The Darkness for the PS3. I finished Uncharted in under 8 hours on normal difficulty and I have to say I'm surprised as to how Gamespot gave it an 8.0…it deserves more than that. Played a bit of The Darkness and I've loved every moment of it so far. Well I'm going to get back to playing The Darkness so bye for now

First of all I'm really sorry that I wasn't able to post in your blogs. The problem was with my optical mouse, it kept scrolling up and down by itself. You have no idea how frustrated I was. It was as if my mouse had a mind of it's own. Anyways I bought a new mouse today and everything is fine now.

So for the past week or so I wasn't able to come on Gamespot, so I had to spend my time with my PS3. I downloaded two demos from the PSN store, Clive Barker's Jericho and The Darkness, both being great demos. I even purchased Tekken: Dark Resurrection from the store and it was well worth the 13$ price tag. My exams are going to start in a couple of weeks so you can imagine the fun I'm having, I so hate exams...ARRGH...

Anyways, hope you guys are doing well, and I'll be sure to post in your blogs once again

I was just playing Devil May Cry 3 the other day and was reminded how hard the game really is. All of a sudden this topic popped up in my head, and I just had to blog about it.

We have all played games in our life (otherwise we wouldn't be here in Gamespot), one's that are seemingly easy, and one's that are just nerve wrecking hard. Gamers always love a challenge, but sometimes that challenge seems a tad too hard for them, so in the end, they just give up. So why on earth would game developers make their games so freaking hard? Is it that today's gamers are so skilled that they can complete any game in a day's time, or is it done on purpose, to challenge gamers, to see who is worthy of completing the game. Either way, I feel games such as Gears of War, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden (all played on normal mode) and all the other insanely hard games which I have failed to mention, should have a difficulty which is actually "normal" and not "10 times normal".

I get the feeling game developers enjoy reading forum posts of gamers pleading for help in a particular level. I also get the impression that sometimes, game developers are afraid that their games are too easy, so they make it hard. But it boils down to this, when can have games that have a difficulty setting that makes them challenging, and at the same time, frustration-free....

The 3 major conferences have come to an end, but which one stood out the most. Was it Halo 3 for Microsoft, Wii fit for Nintendo or was Metal Gear Solid 4 for Sony. Here is my take on the 3 conferences:

    Microsoft

The first conference was done by Microsoft. Microsoft with the X360 is currently the leader in console sales compared to Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3. With this in mind, Microsoft had the upper hand. During the conference thee was a lot of game trailers and gameplay videos of many games. The most notable of the gameplay videos were Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed. But sadly, the conference wasn't all the intresting as we thought would be. On top of that Microsoft announced a new X360 that will come as a Halo themed console. Not bad, but this further confuses consumers as there are now 4 types of X360's available in the market. At the end of the conference, the viers were given a sneak peak into Halo 3. Microsoft's conference ended with a few shakes from the head.

    Nintendo

Nintendo came to E3 with a lot of ideas. For the most, the conference was just based on statistics and graphs. Later on, there were a few gameplay footages of Metroid Prime and Mario (forgot the name!). Nintendo's conference was not all that bad, but they should have balanced speeches with some game trailers. Early on, the viwers got to see some real-time footage of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Nintendo' conference also included some new products for the Wii namely the Wii Zapper, which is used for the upcoming Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Nintendo ended their conference with the introduction of Wii Fit. Personally I thought it was lame and very, very, very kiddish.

    Sony

Sony was easily the best conference of the 3. Featuring some gorgeous trailers and innovations, Sony has easily dominated E3. On top of that they showed trailers of Killzone 2, Ratchet and Clank:Tools of Destruction, God of War:Chains of Olympus and the best trailer Sony of the entire show, Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots. Sony showed of it's new PSP system which is much more lighter than the original PSP, and at the same time, much more durable and has a much longer battery life. The crowd even got a chance to meet Chewbacca! There was also the new PlayStation Home which seems very promising. All I have to say is if you haven't watched the Sony conference, then your missing out on something really big!

In the end E3 was a blast. I got 2 live feed emblems and I was very happy with the outcome. Can't wait for next year!

It's taken me exactly 145 days to get past this annoying level (yes I counted down the days!). Now that I'm free of the lv20 glitch, I thought I would celebrate with a review to one of the greatest action-adventure games ever made, God of War 2, and do recommend it if you liked it. Here's the link to the review:

    God of War 2

I'll be leaving for vacations next week. Oh and my parents decided to get me an X360 cause I came first in my divison and I was the subject topper for Accounts in my school My parents didn't believe me in the beginning, but recently there was a parent-teacher meeting held In my school, and my teacher told them that I came first. Since my parents haven't purchased me anything for a while now, they promised to get me an X360, how cool is that? Anyways I'll post another blog before I'm leaving for vacations

First of all thanks to everyone who posted in my previous blog

I purchased 2 albums recently, one being the new one from Linkin Park, and the other also a latest from Evanescence. Now I bought Minutes to Midnight yesterday and I thought I would review it for you people. It's Linkin Park's 4th major album and I was really looking forward to it, but sadly the album is horrible and is not worth buying at all. LP has made a lot of changes compared to its previous album, Meteora. There were some good singles but the remainder of the album felt a bit dull and boring. As a conclusion, this album was very disappointing and could have been a whole lot better.

Here's a brief rundown of the tracks:

Yesterday I saw what was probably one of the best movies ever made, Spiderman 3 The movie was awesome, it had practically everything in it.......and to top it all of it had a really good storyline! Well i'm not going to spoil anything for you guys so i'll just keep quiet for now........

Wellgetting tickets was the most frustrating part My parents and I initially went to check out the 9:00 p.m show but by the time I had reached the counter, there were only tickets left for the first row (I HATE the first row!). So we decided to take the next show which was at 11:00 p.m. Just as a reminder, we reached the theater at 8:00 p.m. After that I had to eat my dinner and I spent most of time window shopping and sitting on the public benches. By the time it was 10:00 p.m I was sooooooooo sleepy, but somehow I managed to stay alive till the show began......and after that it was a one of a kind experience. Well I think i've bored you enough for today so see ya!
