15Jun 07A few weeks ago I decided to copy and print my TV.com blogs for my family history book. But for some reason the only way to get my blogs of the past was to delete other blogs until the ones I wanted showed up. I don't know why this had to be done but it was very annoying since there was a lot of information that I felt the general public should see. I even asked a friend to try to get my past blogs for me but she couldn't do it either. So that's what happened to so many of my posted blogs. ------BARRY GOLDWATER ( in the Congressional Record ), September 16, 1981: There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.' -------------------Conservative Arizona Senator / 1964 Republican presidential nominee Sen. Barry Goldwater

1Jul 06A note about executive orders:
A Presidential Executive Order, whether Constitutional or not, becomes law simply by its publication in the Federal Registry. Congress is by-passed. Executive Orders do not require Congressional approval to take effect but they have the same legal weight as laws passed by Congress. The President's source of authority to issue Executive Orders can be found in the Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution which grants to the President the "executive Power."
Executive Orders are controversial because they allow the President to make major decisions, even law, without the consent of Congress. This, of course, runs against the general logic of the Constitution -- that no one should have power to act unilaterally. The ultimate criticism of Executive Orders is that the runaway use of EOs could result in a President becoming a virtual dictator, capable of making major policy decisions without any congressional or judicial input.
President Andrew Jackson used executive powers to force the law-abiding Cherokee Nation off their ancestral lands. The Cherokee fought the illegal action in the U.S. Supreme Court and won. But Jackson, using the power of the Presidency, continued to order the removal of the Cherokee Nation and defied the Court's ruling. He stated, "Let the Court try to enforce their ruling." The Cherokee lost their land and commenced a series of journeys that would be called The Trail of Tears.
In an atmosphere of World War II hysteria, President Roosevelt, encouraged by officials at all levels of the federal government, authorized the internment of tens of thousands of American citizens of Japanese ancestry and resident aliens from Japan. Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066, dated February 19, 1942, gave the military broad powers to ban any citizen from a fifty- to sixty-mile-wide coastal area stretching from Washington state to California and extending inland into southern Arizona. The order also authorized transporting these citizens to assembly centers hastily set up and governed by the military in California, Arizona, Washington state, and Oregon. Although it is not well known, the same executive order (and other war-time orders and restrictions) were also applied to smaller numbers of residents of the United States who were of Italian or German descent. For example, 3,200 resident aliens of Italian background were arrested and more than 300 of them were interned. About 11,000 German residents—including some naturalized citizens—were arrested and more than 5000 were interned. Yet while these individuals (and others from those groups) suffered grievous violations of their civil liberties, the war-time measures applied to Japanese Americans were worse and more sweeping, uprooting entire communities and targeting citizens as well as resident aliens.
A list of some current Executive Orders:
Executive Order 10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.
Executive Order 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.
Executive Order 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals. (consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 10998 allows the government to take over all food resources and farms. (consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision. (consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11001 allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions.
(consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons. (consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft. (consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations.
(consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities. (consolidated into EO 11490)
Executive Order 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.
Executive Order 11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President.
(consolidated into EO 11490)
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative Executive Orders issued over a fifteen year period. (consolidated into EO 11490)
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial institution in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the President, Congress cannot review the action for six months.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 12148 created the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that is to interface with the Department of Defense for civil defense planning and funding. An "emergency czar" was appointed. FEMA has only spent about 6 percent of its budget on national emergencies, the bulk of their funding has been used for the construction of secret underground facilities to assure continuity of government in case of a major emergency, foreign or domestic.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 12656 appointed the National Security Council as the principal body that should consider emergency powers. This allows the government to increase domestic intelligence and surveillance of U.S. citizens and would restrict the freedom of movement within the United States and granted the government the right to isolate large groups of civilians. The National Guard could be federalized to seal all borders and take control of U.S. air space and all ports of entry. Many of the figures in the Iran-Contra scandal were part of this emergency contingent, including Marine Colonel Oliver North.
Perhaps it can be summed up succinctly in the words of arch-conservative activist Howard J. Ruff. "Since the enactment of Executive Order 11490, the only thing standing between us and dictatorship is the good character of the President, and the lack of a crisis severe enough that the public would stand still for it."
George Bush: "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier - just so long I'm the dictator." December 18, 2000

12Jun 06This is old news but still interesting I think, especially since it shows the hypocrisy of the Republican party and the true colors of the news media.
A male gay hooker in the White House, James D. Guckert (male prostitute), AKA Jeff Gannon (White House reporter) , was a known male prostitute who got a press pass to the Bush White House in 2003-05. This pretend reporter made many visits to the White House that were not news related. Yet he barely made the news and this story died very quickly form the so-called liberal news media. More time and effort was spent on Clinton and Lewinsky in one week then has been spent on the Guckett/Gannon fiasco in 18 months.

6Jun 06Banning gay marriage seems a lot like the banning of black/white marriages of not so many years ago. Morally and legally it cannot stand as law. How can we, as a society, prevent any people from having a legal contract based on their sexuality? That's all a marriage is, a legal contract. That's why you need a lawyer and a judge to break-up a marriage. The civil ceremony of gay marriage should be allowed and will be soon I think. If Republicans (religious conservatives) want to control everyones life, maybe they should move to Saudi Arabia or Iraq and become part of the Muttawa (religious police). I don't know why religious conservatives want to be so controlling but the are, and in all religions it seems.
I'm so happy all the major problems in this country have been solved. You know; the massive national debt, the war in Iraq, political corruption, health care, etc. stuff like that and now the country can focus on issues like gay marriage.
FYI: the national debt is now $8,400,000,000,000.00 and increases at a rate of $1.75 Billion dollars a DAY ! This will cause massive inflation in the future, your money is becoming worthless.
