Rockband 2 vs. Guitar Hero: World Tour

Okay so for the first entry of my blog, I thought I would start with a piece on the current rhythm game popularity craze. I didn't get on to Guitar Hero with the first game, but I jumped on the Guitar Hero wagon with the release of the second game, when it was picking up speed, but before all of the little ultra softcore gamers who just bought Wiis because of the gimmick of a Gamecube with motion sensing technology started playing Guitar Hero and royally sucking at it while saying that they were really good because they could get a whopping 5 stars on easy. This really pissed me off that the makers of Guitar Hero would sellout and make it for the Wii, but I made it through. However, I thought that Guitar Hero's makers were really redeeming themselves when I heard that they would be following suit of Rock Band for their next full game and introducing drums and a microphone. I stayed excited for this all the way up to the release of World Tour, but wondered why the release was so pathetic for Guitar Hero and so magnificent for Rock Band 2 because I did not have money to buy either since I am saving up for a PS3. Then I finally got to play the World Tour drum set on Black Friday in Best Buy and I was not at all impressed, and on the verge of being pissed off with the makers of World Tour. I sat down at the thrown thinking, "Wow! This has got to be better than a Rock Band drum set even though I have never played one because this one has cymbals and Rock Band does not," oh how terribly wrong I was. I was sitting and picked medium because I had never played video game drums before. Then the song started and I tried hitting in time with the notes on the screen, but it did not work because I have played real percussion instruments before and was having to hit all of the pads far too hard, especially the terrible cymbals which require a hit about twice as hard as on the drum pad to register. The other day I was in Hastings and got to play Eye of the Tiger on the Rock Band 2 drum set and all I have to say is "AMAZING!" It was so much better than World Tour's drums and that convinced me that I, as the Guitar Hero Junkie that I am, will instead for my band kit for PS3, purchase the Rock Band 2 kit and just buy the Guitar Hero games discs. Overall, I implore you to buy Guitar Hero games as well for their set list, but please support the wonderful Harmonix band kit and give Neversoft "the finger" for not caring about their loyal customers by sending out a piece of crap.
