As news slowly came pouring in Tuesday I was getting getting stocked on 'what' to expect later on that day. Since Microsoft's press conference would be kicking off this year's E3 later that day. Though that hearing news such as the confirmation on earlier rumors of Sony dropping it's 599$-console to a respective 499$ I knew that it was already on. Certainly after the bulletin about Konami's 'doubts' about MGS's success on the PS3 even with that price drop. And all I have to say, even if this is news to me, it certainly doesn't come as a surprise. Guess I was right, when I said that Sony was getting itself into trouble with the PS3. After all numbers don't lie.
But I'm not in it for the PS3 at all. Cause there's a bunch-load of games for the 360 that are coming out way. I'm even getting delirious thinking about 'how the hell' I will pay for all that! :O And that alone would even make me call out Microsoft's Xbox 360 to be 'the top dog' of the 3 systems. Even with Nintendo's expected success and sales. There's just that much more variety for the 360 that it's hard to deny that. Don't get me wrong, no doubt there's enough Nintendo to go round. But still when I gaze upon the list I've made with games I MUST HAVE and the ones I at least want to check out for both the Wii and Xbox 360. Then I must say that the 360 does take the lead with at least the double amount of games. But that list isn't just a 'personal most wanted list'. It's also a list of games I consider to be the most anticipated, most important and worth mentioning the most of all. And since it's personal I narrowed it down to games for the 360, Wii and DS. Simply because I don't and won't (for a long time) own a PS3 and the same for the PSP.
So fully prepared I was ready for Microsoft to kick off this year's E3. And man, o man! I better go robe a bank or something cause I'll frikn need money before end this years for all this stuff!!! Or I need to find a way to clone Santa and be very nice. Cause it's not only a sh.tload of games that will be released but also the pretty cool hardware that they have in stock for us. I mean, I'm not really what u would call the typical "Halo fanboy' but I really like that series a whole darn lot this far. And I can't say I don't like the looks of that Halo-themed 360. I also have to admit that I won't look away for 30$ from the Messenger keyboard they are releasing soon. It can be a very useful tool since I'm really getting annoyed sometimes with doing it with the controller. But that's more a 'wait and see how it turns out' gadget as far I'm concerned. Still not all that wrong of an idea of Microsoft. Finally Microsoft's answer on Sony's Buzz! series. I just think it's nothing more than a normal step they took and was bound to happen. Why miss out on a part of the market while u can easily can get a cut of it. Though that it's not my thing, a smart move it certainly is.
But let's talk games! First of all the games that better can come now than later. And one of those games and which is also comming pretty soon is Bioshock. A game that didn't caught my attention at first. But as time passed by it found a way to attracked me into looking at those briliant atmospheric graphics. Let alone the mystery which is wrapped around the story. I just MUST know more...
Condemend 2: Bloodshot is another game on that list which fits perfectly after Bioshock. I really liked the previous one and think it was the best of the launch games. But also had a lot of question when finishing it, let's hope they'll give me some fulfillment as far as the story goes. I just think condemned is just that game u can't go wrong with. It's always worth playing, which this one will undoubtedly also will be.
In perfect adition to previous two games there's Resident Evil 5. I've loved the Resident Evil series from day one on the Playstation. Certainly had it's ups and downs in the series. But don't expect this to be a "down" one, let's put it that way. It really looked amazing for as far I could see. And can't wait to see more from the environments and certainly like the idea of fighting zombies in the jungle.
Another game which ends up high on the list is Assassin's Creed. I remember that there where rumors that it wasn't even sure if the game would be released on the 360. Which I thought would be strange of Ubisoft and luckily I was right. And soon will be enjoying and satisfying my curiosity. Cause damn what is up with that game... The hightech-stuff around the targets?! What is that all about? So my message to Ubisoft is "RELEASE THE FRIKN GAME YESTERDAY", please. The only little thing I could trip over is the "dynamic crowd" as they like to call it. I just wonder if it works out how it suppose to. Sure it will in the demo what they soon on E3 but will the end game? Further on I of course liked the graphics, who didn't? But just don't think u can get away these days with **** graphics. Maybe if the concept of the game is super strong. But that's an entire different story. One thing I do know is that I can't wait to get my hands on that game.
Of course let's not forget Halo 3. Without a doubt the most anticipated game for the XBox 360. And like I mentioned before not really a Halo fanboy but the second Halo really rocked my world, especially online. Let's just hope Halo 3 maintains that high level of online gameplay. And I also wouldn't mind a little improvement in the single player.
But when talking about anticipated games for the 360 we can't leave GTA IV out of the picture. And of course yet another game I just need to have as soon it releases. Don't think I need to say more about this game or it's predecessors. Just that I've been waiting a long time for this game. Let's say that Saint's Row didn't really do it for me.
More action with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. A game I'm really interested in how it will turn out since I really liked the previous versions. And I'm curious how they'll approach the "Modern Warfare" concept. Don't think anything will go wrong here. Unless the entire development team got Alzheimer all of a sudden and forgot how to develop a game. But yea, what are the chances that will happen...
And finally we're starting to see more RPG's on the 360. For instance Blue Dragon, from which u can download a nice demo on Xbox Live. Chrono Trigger was one of my favorite games all times, so I must admit I got pretty high expectations of this game. Only could play the demo briefly bit for as far I could see I really got the idea it had a nice depth of rpg-elements. Another RPG I'm really looking forward for is Lost Odyssey. As being a game from the producer of the Final Fantasy series I can't help it but wanting to check this game out. And certainly after I've seen those awesome graphics, I just can't wait for it to be released. And last but nut least Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Godess. As long time Final Fantasy-fan I can't just let this game pass by unnoticed.
But that's not all, there are of course more game I got in mind and certainly will keep an eye on. Titles such as; Mass Effect, Dynasty Warriors: GUNDAM, The Simpsons Game, Battlefield: Bad Company and Tony Hawk Proving Ground. There's also Fable 2Devil May Cry 4 and we unfortunately didn't see anything of those games on the press conference. But still hope to hear more later as E3 progresses. and
But that's all Xbox 360 alone, so let's take a peek on the Nintendo list. Where I mainly focus on the Wii and DS games. Though it's instantly obvious that 'the Nintendo list' is substantially shorter compared with Xbox 360's previous list I've put up above. But my philosophy is that it's not the quantity that counts but the quality. But of course also here there's more than just games to be mentioned. Such as the "Wii Zapper", which I expected to be arriving sooner or later. And I must say I think that it looks pretty cool. Not really just the 'simple pistol-idea' like the very first Zapper for the NES. And it made me really curious about how the new Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles will turn out with the 'gun thingy'. Also the "Wii Wheel" spoke to my imagination, but when they came up with "Wii Fit" and the "Wii Balance Board". I just had to bail at that point. For some reason it just doens't really appeals to me I guess or it's just mad lame. So yea, never mind that thing.
And of course there's more than just Hardware for the Wii. And so there's finally more news on some release dates. For instance the Super Mario Galaxy that will be releasing 12th November this year. Or maybe even better, the release date of Super Smash Bros. Brawl which will be released on the 3rd December 2007. I kinda consider both games together with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption as the most important releases on a short term for the Wii.
But these games are of course not the only games I would like to check out for the Wii. Mainly RPG's to be honest, for instance; Fire Emblem: Godess of Dawn, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. And there's more than only RPG's of course, for instance Battalion Wars 2 or Soulcalibur Legends. But let's not forget Mariokart for the Wii, which will be online enabled trough the WiFi connection of the Wii console. Which on it's own is pretty nice, since the Wii still lacks the online enabled games.
As for the DS there are also a few games I really wouldn't mind checking out. For instance both Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate. Of course cause the simple fact that it are Final Fantasy games. But there's this one games where probably the majority of DS-owners are waiting for and that is The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Glass for the DS. This game was already announced at last year's E3 and I did hope to see it sooner, still better late than never.
Still even with all these games I've mentioned there's a lot more to check out of course. But I'll post another blog after the E3 is over where I'll put up my thoughts of this year's E3 and what I've seen. And maybe even make some room for other games I've forgot to mention or those that came to mind after this blog. But I'll wrap this up now, kinda have put down more than enough for the moment. So all there's left for me to say is; enjoy E3 and check y'all later.
Greet,
G.
