My Friends

Only a little further from reality

  • 11Mar 08

After a lot of people left GS, people who made this site worth to visit for me. It's now time to leave this site myself. I canceled my subscribtion a while ago but this will continue till November.

The reaon why I finally decided to leave is mainly cause the upcoming site of Jeff and Ryan, called Giant Bomb. Here I hope to find my refugee instead of being forced to visit other lame sites like this one.

Anyway, all by all had a nice time here at GS, wrote some nice blogs and got to know good people. Unfortunately this comes to an end here. Though, if u are in need to contact me u can always check my own blog, Gamebits or wait for the membership options (if they come) at Giant Bomb and contact me there.

Further on there only this let for me to say.... Sayonara, have a good life and make sure to keep playing games... it makes us who we are! That's all folks...

    Gram signing out.

Reaching level 34 was a pretty nice ending of the week. The Paramecium is a group of unicellular ciliate protozoa formerly known as slipper animalcules from their slipper shapes. Well that's at least what Wiki states. But I guess that whoever came up with these "levelnames" isn't referring to that and probably is meaning to point out some kind of creature out of some game. Not that I have any idea which character, creature or whatever they're talking about. So if some1 does, please enlighten me with your knowledge about this matter.

But there's more important news and I'm sure I'm not the only one talking or writing about it. And of course I'm talking about that in less than 20 hours from now Halo 3 will finally be released for the public. Unfortunately we here in Europe will have to wait one extra day. But let's just say its close enough for me to get stoked about it. Especially after seeing all those awesome pictures from promotional material Bungie already did send out to different companies. Though I have to admit that I'm one of those who really care about in which case the game will come. Even with those pictures and all the forums I've searched I still don't know for sure if the Legendary Edition will contain a metal case. I just believe metal casings are better for the preservation of the game and of course it also looks better. And maybe it sounds strange but I would choose the metal case above the Helmet for some reason. Luckily I've pre-ordered both the Limited and Legendary Edition so I have to option to choose. But my impatient personality makes we rather know it now then later. Ah well, I'll find out soon enough, only 2 more days...only 2 more days.... Another thing I'll be happy about is that ALL the hustle around Halo 3 will finally be over. Stuff like the leaked manual and ending or the pre-release-on-EBay-sold copies. And I don't call that anticipation anymore but frikn obsessive behaviour.

I've also been busy with my own site. It's a blog based website where we focus on mainly 360-related subjects. But I don't think many people here got any use for it since it's a Dutch website. Though even if we try to take a professional approach. It's still just more used for 'try-outs', testing, portfolio and other more educational reasons. And even if it's Dutch everybody is welcome to check it out and all comments or suggestions are appreciated. Well....as long as they are serious of course. Keep in mind that only two people are working on it. Meaning that it can have its flaws here and there. Also the fact that everything you see and touch is created from scratch needs to be taken into consideration when delivering suggestions. And thanks in advance if you do so.

And since I'll be occupied with more important matter from the 26th this month . I'll like to wish all a happy Halo day and the most of enjoyment to all.

It's safe to say that the release-madness has started. Many, many games will be coming my way and I better get ready for them. If in any case you're wondering which games I'm talking about. Then you can always ready this entry where I enlisted most of them during the E3 this year. Some of those games I really can't wait to get my hands on and others I'm really curious about. Some are already released and others I'll have to endure the pain and suffering to wait for its release.

And it all started last week for me, when Bioshock was released. A by me highly anticipated game where I expected much from. And I certainly got "much" without a doubt. It was exactly what I expected it to be. An amazing story, great game play and beautiful graphics. What more can you want from a game? Though that these type of games are over and done for rather quickly. After finishing it twice, maybe three times to get all the achievements and/or the different endings it pretty much ends with that. The surprise elements are gone and so are the tensions and curiosity that the game has at first and even second play-trough. Still it's one of the better games I've got on the 360 and I'm more than happy that I've got a LE which included an awesome figurine of a "Big Daddy" (the cool one, bouncer).

    Big Daddy

So I still needed a game that would pull me trough the month as Halo 3 would be released at the end of it. And I already had my eyes on Blue Dragon for some time now. So I eventually decided to get it hoping it would last me till end of the month. And I guess I can say that it has a good chance of doing just that. This because the game contains 3 discs which I was pleasantly surprised about. Still the length of a game doesn't say anything about how good it is. But that it's a good game was confirmed as soon as I started playing. It instantly felt as the old-school RPG which I got to love so much. Also the fact that Akira Toriyama is the character designer does a lot for me. It really is the RPG I was waiting for to be released on the 360. A pretty lengthy old-school, that's not too complicated and easy to enjoy. So in short; I couldn't want much more out of Blue Dragon than what it has to offer.

Another game that's already been released and waiting to get bought by me is Metroid Prime 3. As I've been REALLY disappointed in what's been released for the Wii this far. I finally got my prayers answered with the release of Metroid. I also expect pretty much from that game and hope to be adding it to my collection soon. Maybe I even would have bought Metroid before Blue Dragon. But since I'm so deeply disappointed in what's out for the Wii this day. I kinda stopped checking out what is being released when on the Wii. So yea, I totally had no idea when Metroid 3 was going to be released which is the simple reason why I haven't got it instead of Blue Dragon. But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have wanted it otherwise than how it is now.

Further on like I've mentioned before I'm anxiously waiting for Halo 3 to be released. Been way too long since I played the second one and I don't remember even half of what the story was about. Maybe I should get back to it just to refresh my memory but it's pretty hard when you got two nice new games which are waiting to be played. And of course I'm curious how the story will end this time, since both previous version pretty much left us in the dark. But most important aspect of the Halo-series for me and with me many other is without a doubt the online play. And since I'm an achievement-freak. I really wonder how/if they will combine that with the medals. Ah well, guess I'll see soon enough.

Finally for those whom it may concern. I'm slowly getting back into the OSU-actions. Posting in the forums and thinking about how to improve the union to get it more active again.Maybe even try to get some features running again. If any1 wants/can help or even have ideas for anything feel free to PM me at any time about this.

I'm not really a 'review-writer'. Though that once in a while I like to pick it up and write one. This time I choose to write a review of a game and a genre I don't have to much experience with. Just to challenge myself. Still I would like to know what you (the reader) think about it. Maybe even give me some pointers or feed-back. And you're also welcome to recommend the review, wherefor I'll give tnx in advance; Thanks.

Further on if you don't expect the perfect review which we know from the awesome Gamespot-staff. Then everything will be all good . And of course have fun reading it.

As I played the Bioshock demo a few days ago. I realized I wanted the game even more than before and pre-ordered it. Doing so I had the option to pre-order a normal copy which would give me a 10 bucks discount on the actual purchase. Or I could pre-order the LE which didn't gave me a discount but ensured me that I'll have the LE on launch. With Halo 3 I took even a bigger leap of faith and pre-ordered it thrusting it to be at least as good as the second one. But of course preferably better. With Halo3 I even had more options how I wanted to pre-order. First of all the 10 bucks discount again, the LE which came with a T-shirt and of course the guarantee that I'll have the LE. And in addition to those two options there also was a "Legendary Edition" that I could pre-order.

Now the thing is that when I remember the first so called "Limited Edition" appeared to be everything but a limited edition of the game. Till this day I'm still able to find the LE of Doom 3. Also the LE of Halo 2 was to be found long after its release. Though I think that the LE's these days are more limited than before. Which of course contributed to the decision of getting the LE version for Bioshock.

Another thing which improved a lot is the content a LE contains. It used to be nothing more than a "special" casing and a bonus-DVD and if you'd be lucky they'd throw in a poster. While nowadays they really put an effort in creating that "special" content for the LE's. That 2k Games for instance. While the game was at his end stage of development they'd put up a POLL asking what people would like to see in their LE's of the game. And the most popular item also made it into the box. For instance the stickers and the figurine. But there's more, there was one item that couldn't make it into the LE-box. Which was an Art-Book of the game. So their solution to that "problem" was simply to put it online for download which made it included in every Bioshock in a way. This I just call a brilliant move and the more reason for me to pre-order the more than tempting LE version.

But now they even took the LE a step further. And the first game to be release on 3 different ways is Halo 3 (who could've figured that ). Being the normal standard edition, the limited edition and the legendary edition. And like many I also thought it was a little crazy for them to create yet another edition that probably would cost a lot more (which it does). But on second thoughts I realized that it's actually perfect for a person like me. Who likes to collect every single thing that can be brought in association with videogames. And sure enough I pre-ordered the legendary edition of Halo 3. After realizing how simply a few "collector-items" made me change my mind. And it really doesn't have much to do with the fact that it's Halo3. Cause I would do exactly the same with another game I would like. I for instance wouldn't have mind a legendary edition of Bioshock. Maybe I even would've liked that more, but realize that considering the anticipation of both games. And mainly the history behind both makes it not hard to think way there isn't a legendary edition for Bioshock.

So after all I think that it's a good thing what they're doing with the limited and legendary edition and who knows what else is on the horizon for that matter. And of course it's all about the cash but as long as they keep the content and what u pay for it reasonable. Then I'm all pro limited and legendary editions.

So all by all I'll soon be a happy owner of both the limited edition of Bioshock and the legendary edition from Halo3. Other games I also wouldn't mind having a limited edition from are; Assassin's Creed or even some Wii games like Super Smash Bros. or Mario Galaxy. The more items I can get my hands on the better, LE's FTW.

I'm not really the pirate-type of fellow. I never download anything else but original software. Also never modified one of my consoles to be able to play copied games on it. Though I'm not the person to judge and don't really care watch others do. But I'm not here to write an editorial about what's right and wrong about piracy of software and games. The reason why I started off like this was to show you THIS VIDEO which is a commercial on Dutch television. It was made by Original Characters and no doubt the best anti-piracy commercial I've seen this far.
They might even succeed in reaching the 'target-group' by making it such a funny, cool and nice to watch commercial.

Since I stopped playing WoW some time ago I do miss to turn on a game every now and then when I'm working on my PC/Laptop. So I went on a mission to search a replacement for me. And since I'm not into PC games at all I surely was a mission alright. So I same across Civilization IV which appealed to me a lot. I could even download it right away with the "Digital Purchase" method here on Gamespot. Where I noticed the game would cost me $39.99, so I went further to check how much euro that would cost me and it still was 39.99 euro!!! While officially $39.99 is equal to 29.27 euro. So what's that all about?

But it doesn't stay at just that either. So I kept on checking out the prices for the game and came to a startling discovery. It didn't matter where I checked on American site, the game would still cost around the 29 and 39 bucks. While here in Europe I checked some stored and noticed that the game here would cost something around the 17 and 19 euro. And this is equal to $24.58 and $27.58.

And yes, I can live with a $5 difference, but the Digital Purchase crap is just way out of line.... A frikn $10 difference is way too much if you ask me. And even with the comfort of downloading it and not having to step outside for you to get the gameisn't worth that 10 bucks. You would be plain stupid buying that if you ask me. So I rather take the trip downtown to get a $24 version, where I can also buy the expansions for nothing more then $13. So al together it would cost me about $50 for the game with all it's expansion packs.

I know there are a lot of numbers in the blog but just think about it. The game with two expansion packs would cost u about $90 with the digital purchase or at "Best Buy". And all I can say is that with the $40 difference I don't call this "Best Buy" at all... this is nothing more than a rip-off.

As news slowly came pouring in Tuesday I was getting getting stocked on 'what' to expect later on that day. Since Microsoft's press conference would be kicking off this year's E3 later that day. Though that hearing news such as the confirmation on earlier rumors of Sony dropping it's 599$-console to a respective 499$ I knew that it was already on. Certainly after the bulletin about Konami's 'doubts' about MGS's success on the PS3 even with that price drop. And all I have to say, even if this is news to me, it certainly doesn't come as a surprise. Guess I was right, when I said that Sony was getting itself into trouble with the PS3. After all numbers don't lie.

But I'm not in it for the PS3 at all. Cause there's a bunch-load of games for the 360 that are coming out way. I'm even getting delirious thinking about 'how the hell' I will pay for all that! :O And that alone would even make me call out Microsoft's Xbox 360 to be 'the top dog' of the 3 systems. Even with Nintendo's expected success and sales. There's just that much more variety for the 360 that it's hard to deny that. Don't get me wrong, no doubt there's enough Nintendo to go round. But still when I gaze upon the list I've made with games I MUST HAVE and the ones I at least want to check out for both the Wii and Xbox 360. Then I must say that the 360 does take the lead with at least the double amount of games. But that list isn't just a 'personal most wanted list'. It's also a list of games I consider to be the most anticipated, most important and worth mentioning the most of all. And since it's personal I narrowed it down to games for the 360, Wii and DS. Simply because I don't and won't (for a long time) own a PS3 and the same for the PSP.

So fully prepared I was ready for Microsoft to kick off this year's E3. And man, o man! I better go robe a bank or something cause I'll frikn need money before end this years for all this stuff!!! Or I need to find a way to clone Santa and be very nice. Cause it's not only a sh.tload of games that will be released but also the pretty cool hardware that they have in stock for us. I mean, I'm not really what u would call the typical "Halo fanboy' but I really like that series a whole darn lot this far. And I can't say I don't like the looks of that Halo-themed 360. I also have to admit that I won't look away for 30$ from the Messenger keyboard they are releasing soon. It can be a very useful tool since I'm really getting annoyed sometimes with doing it with the controller. But that's more a 'wait and see how it turns out' gadget as far I'm concerned. Still not all that wrong of an idea of Microsoft. Finally Microsoft's answer on Sony's Buzz! series. I just think it's nothing more than a normal step they took and was bound to happen. Why miss out on a part of the market while u can easily can get a cut of it. Though that it's not my thing, a smart move it certainly is.

But let's talk games! First of all the games that better can come now than later. And one of those games and which is also comming pretty soon is Bioshock. A game that didn't caught my attention at first. But as time passed by it found a way to attracked me into looking at those briliant atmospheric graphics. Let alone the mystery which is wrapped around the story. I just MUST know more...

Condemend 2: Bloodshot is another game on that list which fits perfectly after Bioshock. I really liked the previous one and think it was the best of the launch games. But also had a lot of question when finishing it, let's hope they'll give me some fulfillment as far as the story goes. I just think condemned is just that game u can't go wrong with. It's always worth playing, which this one will undoubtedly also will be.

In perfect adition to previous two games there's Resident Evil 5. I've loved the Resident Evil series from day one on the Playstation. Certainly had it's ups and downs in the series. But don't expect this to be a "down" one, let's put it that way. It really looked amazing for as far I could see. And can't wait to see more from the environments and certainly like the idea of fighting zombies in the jungle.

Another game which ends up high on the list is Assassin's Creed. I remember that there where rumors that it wasn't even sure if the game would be released on the 360. Which I thought would be strange of Ubisoft and luckily I was right. And soon will be enjoying and satisfying my curiosity. Cause damn what is up with that game... The hightech-stuff around the targets?! What is that all about? So my message to Ubisoft is "RELEASE THE FRIKN GAME YESTERDAY", please. The only little thing I could trip over is the "dynamic crowd" as they like to call it. I just wonder if it works out how it suppose to. Sure it will in the demo what they soon on E3 but will the end game? Further on I of course liked the graphics, who didn't? But just don't think u can get away these days with **** graphics. Maybe if the concept of the game is super strong. But that's an entire different story. One thing I do know is that I can't wait to get my hands on that game.

Of course let's not forget Halo 3. Without a doubt the most anticipated game for the XBox 360. And like I mentioned before not really a Halo fanboy but the second Halo really rocked my world, especially online. Let's just hope Halo 3 maintains that high level of online gameplay. And I also wouldn't mind a little improvement in the single player.

But when talking about anticipated games for the 360 we can't leave GTA IV out of the picture. And of course yet another game I just need to have as soon it releases. Don't think I need to say more about this game or it's predecessors. Just that I've been waiting a long time for this game. Let's say that Saint's Row didn't really do it for me.

More action with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. A game I'm really interested in how it will turn out since I really liked the previous versions. And I'm curious how they'll approach the "Modern Warfare" concept. Don't think anything will go wrong here. Unless the entire development team got Alzheimer all of a sudden and forgot how to develop a game. But yea, what are the chances that will happen...

And finally we're starting to see more RPG's on the 360. For instance Blue Dragon, from which u can download a nice demo on Xbox Live. Chrono Trigger was one of my favorite games all times, so I must admit I got pretty high expectations of this game. Only could play the demo briefly bit for as far I could see I really got the idea it had a nice depth of rpg-elements. Another RPG I'm really looking forward for is Lost Odyssey. As being a game from the producer of the Final Fantasy series I can't help it but wanting to check this game out. And certainly after I've seen those awesome graphics, I just can't wait for it to be released. And last but nut least Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Godess. As long time Final Fantasy-fan I can't just let this game pass by unnoticed.

But that's not all, there are of course more game I got in mind and certainly will keep an eye on. Titles such as; Mass Effect, Dynasty Warriors: GUNDAM, The Simpsons Game, Battlefield: Bad Company and Tony Hawk Proving Ground. There's also Fable 2Devil May Cry 4 and we unfortunately didn't see anything of those games on the press conference. But still hope to hear more later as E3 progresses. and

But that's all Xbox 360 alone, so let's take a peek on the Nintendo list. Where I mainly focus on the Wii and DS games. Though it's instantly obvious that 'the Nintendo list' is substantially shorter compared with Xbox 360's previous list I've put up above. But my philosophy is that it's not the quantity that counts but the quality. But of course also here there's more than just games to be mentioned. Such as the "Wii Zapper", which I expected to be arriving sooner or later. And I must say I think that it looks pretty cool. Not really just the 'simple pistol-idea' like the very first Zapper for the NES. And it made me really curious about how the new Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles will turn out with the 'gun thingy'. Also the "Wii Wheel" spoke to my imagination, but when they came up with "Wii Fit" and the "Wii Balance Board". I just had to bail at that point. For some reason it just doens't really appeals to me I guess or it's just mad lame. So yea, never mind that thing.

And of course there's more than just Hardware for the Wii. And so there's finally more news on some release dates. For instance the Super Mario Galaxy that will be releasing 12th November this year. Or maybe even better, the release date of Super Smash Bros. Brawl which will be released on the 3rd December 2007. I kinda consider both games together with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption as the most important releases on a short term for the Wii.

But these games are of course not the only games I would like to check out for the Wii. Mainly RPG's to be honest, for instance; Fire Emblem: Godess of Dawn, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. And there's more than only RPG's of course, for instance Battalion Wars 2 or Soulcalibur Legends. But let's not forget Mariokart for the Wii, which will be online enabled trough the WiFi connection of the Wii console. Which on it's own is pretty nice, since the Wii still lacks the online enabled games.

As for the DS there are also a few games I really wouldn't mind checking out. For instance both Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate. Of course cause the simple fact that it are Final Fantasy games. But there's this one games where probably the majority of DS-owners are waiting for and that is The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Glass for the DS. This game was already announced at last year's E3 and I did hope to see it sooner, still better late than never.

Still even with all these games I've mentioned there's a lot more to check out of course. But I'll post another blog after the E3 is over where I'll put up my thoughts of this year's E3 and what I've seen. And maybe even make some room for other games I've forgot to mention or those that came to mind after this blog. But I'll wrap this up now, kinda have put down more than enough for the moment. So all there's left for me to say is; enjoy E3 and check y'all later.

    Greet,

    G.

About a half year has past now since I got my Wii at its launch-day. And it came to mind that it seems I'm the only one being not all that satisfied with how everything developed since its launch.

With the first quarter of 2007 came to a closure, Nintendo again takes the top two spots of the best selling new video game systems in America. With over a million sold in the states alone. Wii remains the fastest-selling new console in more than a decade, based on NPD sell-through information over the first five months of availability. So far Nintendo even sold more video game systems than all manufacturers combined. This indeed sounds strange to me with Microsoft's Xbox 360 having more than a year of advantage on the two other manufacturers.

I also think that now with the New Paper Mario and the impending release of Mario Party 8 those numbers will even increase drastically. But that's all about the system and we can't do all that much without the games, right. And here's my problem; the games! I'm pretty disappointed in how many games and which ones are being released on that system since its release. Being about 138 games in total and note that these are all the available games worldwide. New Paper Mario for instance is only available for Japan and the US at the moment, Europe has been left out for the usual "translation issues". And than we got the 94 games for Virtual Console. So we're left with a lousy 44 games that where released as being "next-gen Wii games". Also the fact that some of these games are being released on multi platforms is doing much good, opinion-wise.

So here we are with 44 Wii-games released over a 6 months period. And it's logic that some games obviously showing the developers struggle with the new possibilities that the controllers create. And that's not a bad thing at all as far I'm concerned. I just got a ' deja-vu' with how everything is going at the moment. I'm still missing the good action games, what about RPG's or first person shooters? It's fairly simple, there are just not enough "good" and diverse games on the Wii yet. Is this me or do I just need to be more patient and wait for all the goodness to come to us within time? It's just that faith is slowly fading. Especially when u look at the commercials for the Wii and which targeted group of society it's intended for. It's just not the wild, hyped-up, trying to be cool commercials we know from Xbox or Playstation. No, instead they're aiming for the families, maybe even your parents and older people. And believe me that the commercials are adjusted to that :S. Which I have to be honest about, does make me feel step further away from what once was my all-time favourite video game system manufacturer.

After all I just think, no matter how much we might not like it that some things do change. And those we want changed always will remain the same. Not giving up is every individual's own decision. I just hope that good things will get released soon; I don't even care what type of game it is. As long as it's a good one then I'm satisfied. I just want play my Wii.

scanner darklyAfter a very long wait, I finally got my hands on what surely must be one of the most personal anticipated movies there is. A Scanner Darkly! The movie is based on Philip K. Dick's novel and really is a printed state of mind where Philip was in when writing this novel. Let's just say it's as a "sneak peek" in his mind at a certain period in his life. From this novel Richard Linklater knew exactly what he wanted to do with the story and how to film it.

The first thing what is noticeable, is the way it's been made. This because the movie is covered with animated screens. So what Richard did was first shoot the entire movie and finally let and huge animation team cover it. This gives a really unique feeling to the movie and maybe even a perfect choice for this story. As it intends to be all over the place and pretty complicated at times. Where it leaves you hanging in a space filled with your question about the story and no way out of there. And I know this isn't the clearest description I can come up with, but it does capture my state of mind while watching the movie perfectly. It's just hard to simply say what the movie exactly is about, since there is no clear and obvious storyline in it at first. This does become all clear and obvious at the end of the movie, but me telling it would just ruin it for whoever read this, would it now? I can say that the movie is about drugs, but then I would only capture a third, but I'll keep it at that. The rest is for you to discover while watching the movie.

My conclusion is that the movie did live up to my expectations and a little extra. It's well worth buying or renting especially if you're a fan of 'cult movies'. Though that the usual "Hollywood-blockbuster-special effect-raped-action movie-loving person" would maybe feel left behind a little when watching this movie, so I recommend u have at least some knowledge about 'the arts of making movies' before you'll even know "what's" there to like in this movie. Let's say it's not JUST another animated movie.

Busy days, but not busy enough to watch some movies and play some games. So I finished Marvel Ult. Alliance for the first time and it started to grow on me towards the end. Now I'll just do a thorough play and make sure I didn't miss a thing. Which also shows the game is worth re-playing, but I believe that has more to do with the achievements these days, so... I also finally did download the 'hero pack' after I figured out that it was also usable in single player. But I'll be honest here and mention that the achievement that go with it do have a little influence on the decision of downloading the pack ;P. All by all it's a very fun game to play in between. And it's a good thing they kept the game pretty simply and easy to play.

Another 360 game I've put my teeth into is Call of Duty 3. First of all I want to point out that I don't get the feeling it's such a big improvement on the second Call of Duty. Not new melee stuff or the driving parts had to be in there for as far I'm concerned. The reason why Call of Duty 3 appeals to my is simply cause it's so much like the second one. It's all about the 'suction', and the way I get sucked into the story and become the soldier I'm fighting with. And not many games can achieve that for me. I'm just not the type of guy that can easily place himself in the game. It's mostly more about achieving something with it for me no matter if it's a new finished game on the shelf and in the record or even the 360 achievements. But that aside, cause without a doubt does Call of Duty 2 and 3 achieve that for me. And if it is the sounds and effects, the surrounding with its graphics or the action on the field and its power to get your adrenalin flowing. It's just perfectly balanced out and that's where the game gets it's 'power' in my opinion. But before I'll go all out on a not even barely half finished game, I'll just say that the few hours I've played CoD3 made me realise that the concept of a game on its own is nothing. Its how and what you do with the development of that concept that counts. Cause there are too many WW-games without a doubt. And its genre is indeed close to extinction. But after all they still know how to squeeze out one of the better if not best WW game in these periods. Let's just say that they had to be very sure of themselves, knowing that they've announced to abandon the WW-time period for what it is. And take a new leap into modern warfare. Kinda what Battlefield did I guess but without the steps in between . Anyway, maybe I'll even do a cross-review about the two Call of Duty when I've finished CoD3 on veteran cause that's what the game is asking for... I just know it... its calling me out....I can hear it inside my head!

So yea, I had some problems with the internet connection for my Wii and didn't really want to go trough the trouble what the problem was, guess I'm lazy. But after a huge ' self-moral-boost' I finally got myself to search the error code online and fixed the problem. But unmistakeable my laziness would be punished cause as soon as I finally got online with my Wii and checked out the Online Story thingy. I noticed that there where some new things released. But NOT JUST "some things". No, frikn WONDER BOY!!! And I didn't even knew when it got released, meaning I could've played this game maybe much sooner if it wasn't for my laziness :S. So yea, about 16 17 years ago there was this game released named "Wonder Boy". This game is without a doubt the game which I spend the most money on in the arcade halls some years ago. And never finished it and never played since. And man, what did I hope this game got re-released some day. And here we are and I finally get to play it again and finish all that what I started all this time ago. Wouldn't mind them releasing the entire "Wonder Boy" series, wouldn't even mind them being released on DS. Cause that's what I think this game should be made for. So u can download them on your Wii with transfer possibilities to your DS and playable on both machines. Because you're not telling me that a DS can't handle that game, either one of the Wonder Boy's even for that matter. They could even add a little to the price and I wouldn't even mind paying it. But yea, guess not everybody is such a genius as I am . Anyway, I'm really enjoying the game again and it keeps pretty busy, unlike some other downloaded Live Arcade or Virtual Console games.

And as you can see I got plenty to keep me busy with even God of War 2 as back-up. So won't hear me complaining for a while. Though I'll also try to revive the old school union as new subjects such as the Live Arcade and Virtual Console are providing more than enough material for that little jumpstart it needs. And I'll keep people updated trough my blog about the OSU, but u can also go take a quick peek yourself of course .

Been away for about a half year, my account got expired and my blog wasn't getting any "re-fill". BUT! That's all going to change once more. Cause I'm back again with a hunger for txt, let's just put it that way. The break gave me more than enough material to write about and that's increasing daily. Though it still won't be a total bombing of opinions, rants, reviews or whatever this site lends itself for. I simply don't have the time for it anymore.

Nice thing to see is that Gamespot didn't hibernate and been working a lot on improvemens for the site. But it's also pretty obvious that we Europeans still get excluded from tournaments, badges and other stuff they like to keep from us. For keeping that up Gamespot surely deserves the "Most Chauvinistic Gamesite Award", at least as far I'm conceirned. Still it's probably THE best site for all the input u can possibly want about the excitingly growing "world of videogames". But enough about Gamespot itself, for me it's only a medium I use to bring my opinion across and for that matter are badges, levels and ranks a totally useless and idiotic feature. I guess personalitation these days is such an important demand that staying behind with it would mean nothing more than the downfall of it all. Ah well, the need of the masses...sigh....

Well now, let's start with the games that are keeping me occupied lately. Those are mainly the two new games I've bought recently (Marvel Ultimate Alliance and God of War 2) and a little residue of WoW. First of all "God of War 2". At the least just as good as the first one, if not better. That game is just amazing me yet again what can be pulled out of that little machine. The action is sublime, puzzles are just simply great and pretty innovative. And the story.... man o man, what a story. I was always a big fan of Greek mythology and those stories imbedded in a game, that's just perfect.

As for Marvel Ultimate Alliance, unfortunately haven't played that game too much yet. But it's pretty much the same "setup" like X-men Legends for as far I can see. Though it does give me a feeling of a over-all better game. Specially the fact that you're playing with an awesome cast of super hero's is a nice extra. This far I also really like the upgrading system, especially the costumes. Further on I don't have much more first impressions since the games a fairly new and I'm still kicking off from my "six-month-WoW-bender". More about that next time.

It sure has been a while since I wrote something in my blog. My the truth to the matter is that I'm feeling a bit depressed lately. But I guess it's just the winter that's coming up. Another reason is that I'm getting more and more disappointed in Gamespot every time I get on here. One of those reasons is that I think it's simply unfair that European members really have nothing to do here. Everything is set-up to b for the American and Canadian residents. Which is all good and well, but if the European Gamespot (UK) also only creates competitions for UK-residents. Well I'm kinda getting the wrong impressions from all that. But yea, if it all bothers me that bad I don't have to stay right? So yeah, there u got the reason (short vers.) of why I'm not being around lately.

Though in the meantime, the Wii finally got released here in EU. And of course I got one from the first day. And I really must say that it's better than I expected. It really gives you the feeling ur doing the things whatever u do with the Wii-Mote.
Unfortunately there's not all that much games out that I'm interested in so I'm kinda stuck with Zelda for a while. Not that I care though. I've been waiting for that game way too long. And damn I'm enjoying every minute of it that I play. Cause finally Link returned to us.

I've also been pretty busy with WoW and YES, I'm indeed pretty hooked on the game. Like many gamers, this also is one of the best games I've ever played. It's just a shame that these kinda games never get released on console. They should figure something out to make that happen. Cause I rather play in my nice comfortable couch instead of a annoying chair.

Further on I noticed that Gamespot finally gave me my "Wii-Launch-Badge". But also that the 'Readers Choice' is coming up again. Which is in fact one of my favorite things here on Gamespot. And gives us a nice view on what all came out in this year. So don't forget to vote u guys .

Anyway, I don't have much more to mention. Just thought I would let u guys know that I'm yet 'still' alive and thinking of y'all. Just been to hard for me to come on here and write some stuff. I just hope ur all doing good and if there's no communication till then: I wish y'all a Happy Christmas and Happy New Year! And of course the best to all of ya.

    Peace,

Well I'm back now, sort of... It's been a pretty insane two weeks and I haven't been on here. Which kinda shows since I totally didn't go up in %. But hey, who cares...

Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still alive. I've just been pretty busy. Not all too serious things, just been enjoying myself most of all. And all this all because of WoW!!! Yep, you got that right. I've started to play some World of Warcraft because I was bored crazy since my 360 went too the repair service (again). And I have to say that the game is indeed simply AWESOME. Even a total noob to the game like I am will instantly get caught up in WoW. But I have to say that I didn't pay nothing till now except for the game itself, which was 20 bucks. And I'm not going to pay anything further on. Since I've seen that a week of almost no sleep and a lot of WoW can do a lot :S And I also got another month for free left, so...

But that all good because I've received my 360 today anyway. So I'm again a happy man, but I wonder how long this will last. Let's just hope time goes fast and that I'll be even a happier man with a Wii .
But that's not all though. Because today I called 'the Microsoft Service' again, to complain yet again. And I also mentioned that 'a game' wouldn't be misplaced for compensating all this. ANd what do you know, they agreed!!! Shocked I startled; "Any game"...? Yep, any game was the response. And quicker than I possibly could I searched a nice game I would like to have which was Call of Duty 3. And sure enough soon I'll get a copy of that game in the mailbox for compensation. And as happy as I am because of it, I do admit I think it's only normal after what happened with 3 of my 360's.

Anyway, since I'm 'off the hook' in WoW and back in the world of the living. I'll be catching more of you in your blogs and such.
Cause my bitterness has gone and taste of gaming has returned.

    Peace,
    G.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but no way as obvious as it should be. For some of us this is very natural and logic, but others are not always that lucky. Just imagine that you weren’t able to write the ‘blog’ you want or express what’s on your mind. That would be a bummer right, that would simply even s**k big time. The freedom of expression was taken to a new level when internet came. And more and more people where able to express themselves, for instance on personal web pages. Eventually ‘the blog’ was introduced a few years ago. And this tweaked the freedom of expression even a little bit more. Numerous of ‘blogs’ have appeared since then.Everybody with their own piece of mind and opinion, craving to be heard.

But this would soon show it’s downfall. As most of the people addressed personal subjects, some also where publishing more serious matters. Even created a window for the world so see their side in certain situations. One of those people is Kianoosh Sanjari, who is a 23 year old Iranian student that ‘blogged’ about the daily situations in his country. He was arrested earlier this month while reporting on clashes between security forces and supporters of Shi’a cleric Ayatollah Boroujerdi. He is being held incommunicado and Amnesty International fears that he may be at risk of torture or ill-treatment. Sanjari had allegedly gone to the home of Ayatollah Boroujerdi in the capital, Tehran, to prepare a report on the clashes that were taking place there.
This of course seems far from our beds and not really having any affect on us in any way. But guess again!

This situation was brought to the attention by Amnesty International, as the online world prepares to meet at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF, Athens 10/30 – 11/2) to discuss the future of the internet. Amnesty released a statement to the IGF today and is sending a delegation to ensure that human rights are not sidelined and remain at the heart of the forum’s discussions. And even us ‘game-blogging-gamespot-lovers’ are “under attack” here.
Amnesty International is calling on governments and companies to ensure that human rights – particularly the rights to freedom of expression, association and the right to privacy – are respected and protected.

Another important example is Yahoo!, who via its Chinese partner company, Alibaba, has provided the Chinese authorities with private and confidential information about its users that has been used to convict and imprison journalists. It has also agreed to censor and deny access to information. Microsoft shut down the blog of New York Times researcher Zhao Jing on the basis of a Chinese government request. The company has also admitted that it responds to directions from the Chinese government in restricting users of MSN Spaces from using certain terms. Google has launched a censored version of its international search engine in China.

It's even that bad that there are Chinese students at Beijing that don't even knew about the “Tankman” because of this. And for a brief history lesson for those who don’t know either:
-“On June 5, 1989, one day after the Chinese army’s deadly crushing of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing, a single, unarmed young man stood his ground before a column of tanks on the Avenue of Eternal Peace. Captured on film and video by Western journalists, this extraordinary confrontation became an icon of the struggle for freedom around the world.” (for more info go here)-
This means that the Chinese government was able to erase this from ever happening, even on the internet. Obviously they didn’t do this alone. And still nobody knows what eventually happened to the “Tankman”.

So just imagine that you won’t be able to see what you want to see on the internet. Or even worse that you would be denied to say what you want to say. And you’d even be punished for saying what you want or think is needed. That’s why Amnesty International calls all of us ‘bloggers’ out to stand up. And I also would ask you people to at least show some sign that you care. For instance a reaction, your thoughts, maybe even just a blog with:
    LET ME SPEAK!!!
(or something like that) in huge letters would work. You can always also put a link to this blog in it. And if there is a right time for something, it’s now. Don’t let them take this away from us, show that even thinking about doing that is a worthless idea.
    Thanks for your attention.

    Peace,
    Grambyte

Yet another rant about my 360. I know I've been going on and on about this. But check this; Some of you may know that I've send my 360 in twice for repair. And recently I got it back from the second time. But you'll never believe this... IT WAS DAMAGED!!! I was pissed as hell, the devil was a baby compared to me at that point. So yet AGAIN I have to send in my 360 and get a new one. At this point I can safely say I don't thrust anything ' Microsoftish ' anymore. From the time I got it (launch) till now it's going to be away for more than a month now... That's just ridiculous and too insane for words...

But hey, I was able to play a little bit while it was here. And I finished Splinter Cell, which was waiting for the 360 when it returned. And let me tell you, that game rocks. I always loved the series, but this version really does it for me.
In this version I have to say that the online part appeals to me more than the single player. Which normally was the other way around. Never the less I really liked the single player a lot and surely am up for another round (when my 360 gets back (sigh).

And of course not to forget Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3! How can I forget? Well I don't. I bought the game yesterday and man, that game does bring back some memories. Which I guess it does for a lot of us I remember ' ruling ' at the local arcades back in the days. And still kinda do, but competing on world level is kinda different than in my former home town.
Though there one thing that explains a lot. Which is the fact that I can't get used to play that game with a small controller. This is mainly a game I played on the arcades (big joystick y'all remember that). And I'm used to playing this game pretty roughly. Still it doesn't matter cause I still have the same amount of fun playing it as ' back in the days '.

Another game I've finished was Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime for the DS. And it was a nice game I even can say I liked it a lot. Got 15-16 hours on it and about 95% finished. I do think the had to work with the ' stylus '. But that's just me and I still enjoyed it even without the ' stylus '. Well worth getting if you love RPG's and own a DS.

Further on I played the Tony Hawk: P8 and new Rainbow Six demos. And like them both a lot. Though I have to say that my preferences go to Tony Hawk. Maybe simply because of the fact that I need some change in my game collection. There are more action-based games in there than I can mention (or want to in this case). But yeah, the Tony Hawk also stood out because of the ' slow motion thingy ' in there. It really made me feel being back on that board again for some reason.
Not that I want Rainbow Six: Las Vegas, especially with the awesome ' shooting out of cover ' which was nice. And I think you really can see elements of both Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell in it. But that game is for later, there's also Gears of War I got coming up.

Anyway, that's it from me for now. Hope it was worth the time reading, if not sorry for the waste of time. And no I don't give refunds. But I'll catch y'all later and of course ' have a good one on me '.

    Peace,
    G.

Almost like Santa brought me an early visit. And I'm in a pretty good mood because of it. Let's first start off with Splinter Cell: Double Agent that I've got today. This is a game which series I appreciate very much and got every version of up till now. Especially the co-op is cut out for me. I even got an awesome faceplate that came with it. But I don't think I'll use it, I just know I'll be sick of looking at it after a few days.

I also got Mario vs. Donkey Kong: March of the Minis for the DS. Which I was looking forward for since the E3. It didn't even got released in EU for some strange reason. Luckily these games have no regions, so I imported one. The first impression I've got from the game. Is that it's a pretty fun to play game. And it also uses the DS's features in a good way. Obviously a game made for the DS, it's just perfect for it.

And that's not all. I also got myself a Gears of War 'pre-order kit'. Which is a T-shirt and a 10 bucks advanced payment on the limited edition version of the game on release. You also have the possibility to go at some event wearing the T-shirt and get a Gears of War faceplate for it. But yea, I'm not going to do it anyway, so no faceplate for me.

Of course what would the game be without the console? Nothing really, right. But I've finally got my 360 back today, a little late but it's here.

Further on I also almost finished this project I'm working on and which needs to be finished by Tuesday. But I'm well ahead on schedule, so I'm not stressing about that. Cause now it's time to PLAY! So I wish y'all a creative weekend and I'll catch y'all on here I guess.

    Peace,
    G.

I was going to write this when I watched "After Hours", but eventually didn't do it for some reason. But now it's really getting frustrating in every way possible. Now that yet another tournament is coming up here at Gamespot. It's almost like the site is suffering from "chain-tournament/contest-organizing syndrome". And normally I wouldn't mind at all, but since they're always US and Canadian only... I do sort of mind.
I mean, I've been with this site for a while now and at first there where just the prices and money we Europeans missed out on. And now there even are badges that are given for participating in tournaments. Where is it all going at people??? First Jeff that looses with Street Fighter then the ICE that was coming soon but got frozen and stuck somewhere, who will know and now NO FUN FOR EUROPE?!?
I remember reading somewhere on the forums that they where trying to do more for us Europeans. And finally we got the UK Gamespot. But it was nothing more than a illusion, because recently I've seen a contest on the UK Gamespot that was for the UK only!!! Can you believe it?!?

Some angry and dirty content here

I'm getting tired of this or maybe Gamespot is just being selective? I mean, we can ask questions in "On the Spot" and they all of the sudden have a " World Wide Audience ".... Yeah right, just trying to be interesting in front of the developers and big shots if you ask me. But hey, that's all crazy talk right........??? Right.....???
So what's the real deal here? Legal things? And if so, why not explain them so we could understand? Why is receiving money from us universal and the other way around it's all of the sudden ' legally not possible '? Can't blame me, thinking that it's pretty strange in some way. Why are the Gamespot UK contests 'UK only' and not for the entire EU? And hey, don't judge me, I'm not curious at all....
One other reason why I don't like the fact it being US & Canadian only is that I also have American and Canadian friends I would like to play a tournament with. And all because of the ' rules ' I just can't play in these tournaments with my buddies overseas. That's pretty sad.

Though on the other hand, Gamespot is still the best in what they do. There's no doubt about that. And please don't get me wrong on this, I still love the Gamespot. I'm just not the type of guy that likes to sit back and say nothing.

And what about some of the Gamespot sites in other countries? Like the Belgian and Dutch one. Those are really ridiculous and do more harm than good if you ask me. It's like stepping in a time-machine and go back when Gamespot just got started. Only without the up-2-date info...and flair Totally not worth the Gamespot logo/name. Normally I would say something like: "hey, I guess they know what they're doing, right?" But not this time. Cause I don't know who maintains the Belgian and Dutch Gamespot sites. But those guys really don't know what they're doing or aren't doing for that matter. Let's say they really should look into that.

But I guess after mentioning the word "Gamespot" twelve times in this blog alone. I can safely say I'm still deeply in love with this site. It just wouldn't hurt to also organize some tournaments or contests for us Europeans .

Anyway, that's all for today. I guess I'll catch y'all later and I wish y'all a nice day.

    Peace,
    G.

I've posted this vid. a while ago. But never put it in a blog, though it's worth the blog and attention.
Certainly with games still being pointed out as being the source of all evil when something goes wrong in some school. I think it's important to also point out the 'benefits of games'. So here you go:
