    Battening hatches

We're in Ike's path, so we'll probably lose power and internet sometime tonight. I'm a couple of hours from the coast, so there won't be any danger from the storm surge, but we're expected to get several inches of rain and quite a bit of strong winds. I'm going to fortify my fence and remove any potential missiles from my yard, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I did a quick calculation and the integrated kinetic energy that Ike's packing is enough to supply electricity to about 3700 average households for a year.

This'll be my first hurricane in a place that I own. Should be interesting...

    Warts and all.

Here are my wife and I in front of the house. The yard's been dug up recently, so that's why it looks like garbage. It'll get better from here, but I need to do quite a bit of work to make that a reality.

    Signing our lives away

We closed on the house today. There're many things to do, but we're pretty excited. I'll try to snap some pictures of the place so that there's a history as we make changes and so you can live vicariously if that's your thing. At ~1440 sq. ft it's not that big of a home, but we are just two people for now and couldn't reasonably afford too much more in the area that we liked. I probably won't be buying too many games for a while until I get a handle on the new budget. Seeing the amortization schedule stretching out to September 2038 was pretty sobering, and I'm going to try to cut that down as much as possible by paying down the note faster.

"Mixed reactions" SK is linear, very easy and short. It borrows a number of concurrent RPG themes, but puts them in an enjoyable package. Continue »
