Game cost versus Attention span
My two most recent game purchases were Empire Total War, and Dawn of War II. I loved the on-line play with DOWII but it got pretty repetitive after a bit. Even the unlocking of item types was not a blast after a bit. Perhaps if multiplayer actually opened up better items on the solo side I would have been more committed to it. I played it through once and then started again, but the replay value is not that great.
Empire was fun the first couple times also, but the navel battles while good looking were so tedious and eventually you can only fight land battles so many ways and times before they too wane in excitement.
What it comes down to is 50-60 bucks per game for one play through? I guess its fair but I think 30 bucks would be better. With 50-60 for the MMORPGs where you end up spending to much of your life anyway.

Mass Effect
I have figured out that the secondary results of a Mass Effect is that I spend to much time on the PC. This game is fantastic. Although I do find it alittle repetative as they all get with the side quests. Think I will move ahead and finish it tonight, but it has restored my faith in gaming....- Posted Jun 4, 2008 8:59 am PT

X-Com how I miss thee....
I am a freak I guess. But I miss the turn based combat of X-com. real time is nice but to frenetic and I think it losses some of the stategy aspects because AI is never just what you would hope for you own troops. While I love the DOW series. I think an x-com like treatment of Warhammer 40k would be spectacular. Allow you to play the game on the computer like you would in the store. Points based armies and all. It would have to include every single option available and would make the game feel much more personal then the rock paper scissors-ness of the existing game.
