GOTY Debate Blog #1: Best Open World Adventure

first a bit of explaining, this year for goty IM doing things a bit more uniquely, for each category me and my friend Anthony/Dcpc10 are going to starta debate about each category, then I will let you guys finish and post your opinionss on who thought should win, then in the end I will post alll the winners in one giant blog, so heres the first debate (Im Shindiggah)

    Shindiggah says:

Fine, INfamous vs. Prototype lets start

    why do you say infamous

    Anthony says:

as someone that has played both

    Shindiggah says:

    I played both too

    Anthony says:

infamous is far more complete in terms of attention to detail in story, presentation, gameplay

prototype is larger in scale but lacks detail that is required to be a memorable experience

infamous has extremely memorable moments and will def. come off as nostalgia by the end of the gen

to me, prototype came off as ''just another game''

    Shindiggah says:

see that is where I disagree with you, while true the graphics in infamous are much better then those found in Prototype, I feel that the WAY that prototype delivers and shows itself make it far more unique and memorable then infamous

I mean it basically gives you this gigantic island, and takes things back a step, you can be anyone or anything, plus the fact that it basically gives you millions of things to do and just says GO to me is quite amazing

    Anthony says:

i disagree, prototype runs off the technology behind games like the incredible hulk game xD its not that unique in any way

    Shindiggah says:

Infamous it almost felt at times like the missions were "work" in prototype they felt like a game

    Anthony says:

but in infamous every part of the enviroment has some amazing detail to it

    Shindiggah says:

Im not saying it is unique, IM saying that all together with the way the story is told, your characters design, and the setting they al add up to a nice experience

    Anthony says:

i felt the complete opposite in prototype

    Shindiggah says:

ANd the environments in prototype imo were also amazing, true there were a few areas that were plain, but overall it all felt unique in its own way

    Anthony says:

i felt like prototype had ''go there do that'' type missions

while infamous made me feel like i was following a deep and engaging story while completing missions

the buildings looked really dull and the ai was really lacking in prototype, infamous builds on both of those ideas

    Shindiggah says:

but the thing is that the way the story is told in prototype is told far differently then in Infamous, basically infamous follows a straight flat out plot, while prototype, yea you find out stuff by completing missions, but the true depth of the story underneath wat you see is found by exploring, and playing the game in your own way

plus theres the fact that actually being Alex Mercer, to me was much more fun then being Cole, basically I felt that the whole of NYC was mine, I could explore wherever, I had all these super amazing powers accessed to me and a gigantic playground to unleash them in. Things felt a lot more tame and slower in Infamous

    Anthony says:

    same with infamous

you can find radio messages, and notice people in the city react differently whether you're evil or good

along with the whole main story arc itself

    Shindiggah says:

but thats just a reaction, in Prototype the way the story is told is found literally by how you play the game, and where you choose to explore and what you destroy

    Anthony says:

    and btw

even Jeff Gerstmann said anyone who likes prototype better is completely clueless

    Shindiggah says:

thats nice lol I like Infamous, but I still do prefer prototype, and my opinion doesnt always have to= his

plus theres the fact that imho, prototype's combat offers a much deeper satisfaction then Infamous's, I mean call me strange but the way and movements Alex makes and the peoples fear and reactions at how he attacks them is just amazing

sorry if things got a bit confusing folks, but this is an actual argument lol not just typed up by me

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta Impressions

lol, I know ive been having quite a few blogs about this kinda stuff lately, but its because theres been a lot going on

    anyways:

The only word that can be used to describe the beta for Bad Company 2 is disapointing. I have been super hyped for htis game since its announcement, but all I can say now is that I PRAY that this beta is not an accurate sampling of what the full game is like. ALmost everything seemed extremely annoying. First off, the graphics were terrible, now I understand that the game is not due until late next year, so theres a chance that a lot of what I saw were either undetailed or just filler textures, but the point is that they were terribly bland and quite frankly, stung my eyes to look at. ANother complaint is that you move extremely slow in all ways, you walk/run slow, you aim slow, and you reload slowly, IDK if there are settings to fix this but all I know is that at there default the controls are horrendous. Plus the fact that the menus are so miniscule with there text that you almost need a magnifying glass to see the words, just makes thisbeta very disapointing and I pray taht the game can be much more well made by the time it is released next year so it is not a disapointment to the awesomness that is the battlefield name,

    Bayonetta Beta impressions

well I just finished playing through the Bayonetta beta/demo (whatever you want to call it ) and I must say that I am quite impressed. The game delivers both graphically, action wise and control wise. ALl the animations are fluid, and from what I could tell from this beta the story is deep and well told yet twisted with some good humour and qwirky in game remarks. It shows all the quality and then some of its creators previous titles (Okami, Resident Evil 2 etc.) and is a truley great game.

Hopefully, if the full game delivers as well as this beta has I think we can be expecting another great AAA to be hitting our wallets hard early 2010.
