Hey all,
As many of you have probably noticed, I've been away a while. I had some health issues that needed to be tended to and I was off tending to them. I'm okay now, feeling much better. I apologize to everyone for not getting back to them or letting anyone know ahead of time. It all happened kind of quickly. I'm back now and trying to catch up, so if you wouldn't mind taking it easy on me for a bit I would appreciate it. The rest of the staff has done a bang up job covering in my absence and I thank them sincerely. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things quickly. Hope this finds everyone well. - Dan

Season 2 and we've got the premiere right here on TV.com. Check it out HERE !!
I saw them live last year and they were really great, really funny and much better singers than I'd imagined. Rumor has it Season 2 wasn't as easy to write as you'd think but if the first episode is any indication of what the rest of the season holds, I'm excited! Murray brings some of the funniest he's brought in this episode, keep a close eye on him.

Hey guys. Based on your feedback we've begun to explore different color schemes. We're still trying to settle on one so any feedback you have will be appreciated. All I have right now are screen caps. Take a look and see what you think:

Hi all. Happy happy from New Jersey. I'm at my Mom's house again this year visiting the family. My niece just turned 3 on Monday and today the living room is so filled with ridiculous kid presents I'm not really sure where I'm going sleep. Cuz I've sleeping on the couch, you know. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a happy one and a safe one. Apologies for any responses you might still be waiting for, we're doing to the best we can to maintain the site and still have a decent vacation. Not an easy thing to do. Rest assured though, your concerns are being read and forwarded to appropriate parties, teams, etc. You guys who have been with us a while, you know the holiday drill. Our main priority, and I'm talking the Community Team here, will be to get the bugs looked at and fixed. That is my New Years resolution. Not much I can do about a lot of things but I can certainly make folks aware of what we're going through and offer an accurate gauge on the general health of our Community. If you have major concerns, feel free to PM me. Or comment on this blog, either way. I may not respond right away, I'll be in Jersey till the 29th, but I WILL get back to you and I will make sure that your concerns are voiced high into the heavens of the powers that be. What's the most basic thing we have to fix here? People have to enjoy what they are doing here and if they aren't enjoying things, something needs to be fixed. I'll do my best with what I've got.
Sorry, didn't mean to get all "businessy" on ya, during the Holidays. Have a safe and a happy one everybody! See you soon!
Oh, one more thing! The support inbox is flooooded with great comments. Keep 'em coming. But please remember - I have no way of asking John Stewart to perform on Dancing with the Stars. Also - I don't personally know Jason Bateman.

16Dec 08The new home page was designed for one reason - to show off the fact that this is a site full of User Generated Content. The comments are front and center, straight from the Forums, straight from you. I know change is tough to get used to but remember, this is the internet and things are in a constant state of change and development. The bugs are still being worked on, they are still our (The Community Team's) main priority and focus. And we'll get them fixed, we did it before and we can do it again. Websites are always getting facelifts and we're no different. Some I like, some I don't like. This one I happen to think looks pretty good. It's clean and we've got comments refreshing in the top spot constantly. I know it'll take some getting used, I'm going to have to get used to it too, but it's progress! TV.com is going to develop into the best TV on the inter-web in a very short period of time. We've only just begun. Once we work out the kinks I think you'll all be very pleasantly surprised.

26Nov 08That is, if you celebrate Thanksgiving. If you do, have a happy one and remember that a typical Thanksgiving meal is about, oh, three thousand calories. A burrito from any of the fine eateries in the Mission District of San Francisco is about a thousand calories. What I'm saying is that if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, why not try a burrito? What will I be eating? I'll be eating chicken. Yeah, that's right, chicken. There aren't many people joining me this year so I figured I'd spare a turkey and eat two chickens instead. I'm going to cover them in bacon and shove fistfuls of butter under their skin to get that full calorie effect. Mashed potatoes will be on my table, some green vegetables, a bread of some kind, and of course, pie. I'll be listening to the Misfits when I cook, and the Ramones, and if I'm feeling a little funky - the Plarns. Hopefully, my meal will not be interrupted by killers or ghosts. Vampires are not invited, nor werewolves. Plastic man can come if he wants but I'll require a blood sample so I can become plastic man too. Notice I wrote it in lower case the second time because two plastic men ruins the novelty. Don't burn yourself on the stove and don't drink and drive. Don't get eaten by a snake. Call your mother and father if you're away from home and tell them Happy Thanksgiving and then tell them you love them and will see them on Christmas. Eat well and drink responsibly and don't comment on my spelling.

Hey all,
As many of you have probably already noticed, we've changed the font color and size on many pages, including the Bio Pages, Trivia/Quotes, Summary pages, and etc. The first round of fixes went pretty well, took a little longer than we thought, but they look good. There are more changes on the way, BUT, and I can't stress this enough, they will take some time! This is a huge site and making changes, even changes that seem small and insignificant, can have a big effect on everything else. That being said, we are are going to continue to find any text that needs changing and change it. We're also going to see if we can get the Submission Stats module back up and running, as well as the Level Progress bar. And there are several other bugs we're actively working on, the "Removing Favorites", I've tried to bump up because I'm getting a lot of complaints about that one.
If you haven't already, check out the improved text size and color on the guides, it's really made things easier to look at. Any questions can be directed here in the form of comments. I'll answer anything I can, but remember, lots of you, not a lot of me, so bear with me.

14Oct 08Hi all. I was going to post this on the main Site Blog but I figured it was best to leave the redesign stuff up until we have things sorted out. That being said, let's all give a warm welcome to our new Moderators! They are (in case you haven't noticed) -- More_NCIS_Now, Danbambridge, and Edward_Nigma! So far they've been doing a fantastic job and we're lucky to have 'em. If you haven't already, tell 'em "congratulations" or "good stuff", or something like that. Do it now!!

Hey everybody,
First off, let me thank you all personally for being patient (yeah, I know you're sick of hearing that but my mother raised me right, what can I do?) with us while we get these bugs sorted and fixed. Your feedback has been a huge help and we're doing our best to prioritize and plan and ultimately get the site working up to pre-redesign level as soon as possible. Glenn11523's blog, and the others we've seen like it (yes, we've seen those too) has not escaped our attention, and we are taking your "5 Issues" very seriously. The Community Team had a sit down with our new and fantastic CBSi Dev. Team, and progress has been made. Here's what I know so far:
Next week, mid-week, we'll be tackling the text color and size so it's consistent throughout the site and black! That's the first change you'll be seeing, it's the easiest to address and a great place to start.
After the text fix, we'll be looking into what it will take to fix the Tracked blog problem (showing more Tracked Blogs), Level Bar and Submission Stats module. I can't give you an ETA on these because they require the services of more than one department. Keep in mind that adding/removing modules can be a big deal because they affect the overall layout of the page in which they reside. We haven't decided to eliminate them, we just need to find out how to accommodate everything that needs accommodating and remain uncluttered.
The WYSIWYG problems, the broken "Next" button for comments - these are bugs, and have been reported and are being worked on. Check Jaxie's blog for information about the current fixes, she's doing a great job of organizing all that happy news.
Also - good idea to check out the awesome work of our newest Mod, More_NCIS_Now in THIS thread. She's outlined all known bugs and their status. Many mad props to her and the work she's done.
Finally, thanks again for being patient and for caring enough to bring these things to our attention. To those of you who are trying to work with us to fix the site we appreciate it.

I know I shouldn't be obsessed with what the stars are wearing, and honestly, I'm not. But as many of you know, I did have an unfortunate addiction to both Project Runway and America's Next Top Model. It would seem that I have some interest in beautiful women dressed to the nines loitering on portable rugs. Who knew? Anyway, I got my latest fix ogling the pics and polls from our Emmys coverage. I saw it early cuz I work here but now you too can enjoy all the "assets" (hee hee) currently glamming up the features page. I particularly dig that Hayden Pana-uh,terra-something or other. Do me a solid and give her high marks in the poll. Me and Waltmor have a bet going. Thanks!

31Jul 08Hey all, I'm sick. I've got the flu and a temperature hovering around 100-101. I'm drinking lots of fluids and having various soups. I'm not going to around as much today and tomorrow, if you need anything Nilla and Jaxie are here for you. I should be back to normal, hopefully, in a day or two. Till then, pray for me...or don't, it's okay cuz I think I'll be fine regardless. Thanks all!

27Jun 08That's right, I'm so international they put me in the international forums. You know it... See, I was trottin' around Rome with Mila Kunis when I was accosted by fiendish accosters, all yelling and screaming and diving on my car. Luckily, I had a flamethrower with me and was able to melt most of 'em down into a thick, greasy pool. Later that day I flew to Paris and met up with my main lady-friend Brigitte Dale, who was sampling treats from a local pastry shop, or, as they say in French talk - Shoppe. We ate muffins and drank enormous cups of coffee and daydreamed silly kitten songs while the band played Iron Butterfly. When the press showed up, I unleashed my spike-umbrella and made quick work of those pigs. The following day I said, "later on," to Brigitte, and rode a jet ski over to Australia, to the home of this cute YouTube blogger I was trying hard to meet. She was home but thought I was a creep. I was badly beaten by a kangaroo later that day and don't consider it a very fun trip. I had to be air-lifted to Prague, where I was to be crowned Duke of Slattery and given the key to the city and a basket of sausages. I ate the sausages but lost the key, which is okay because it was symbolic and didn't open anything anyway on account of it was three feet long. Not sure how I lost a three foot key...all I can say is Pragues a rockin' place.

When word came down that I'd be interviewing Torchwood's Naoko Mori, AKA "Tosh", I was understandably excited. Torchwood, now in it's second season, is fast becoming one of the UK's hottest exports. For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it's an action packed, alien filled, Dr. Who spin-off in which all the characters are seemingly bi-sexual and snogging aliens is not an uncommon occurrence. Naoko plays "Toshiko Sato", AKA "Tosh", AKA "The Brains of the Operation." She's the gadget girl, a one woman Geek Squad who relates better to her computer than she does to her fellow team members. She's every nerds dream.
Preparing for the interview was a snap. I spent an entire day catching up on season 2 with a sharp eye peeled on Tosh. Not a bad job, right? I jotted down some notes, some observations, and then I got smart and opened a forum for you guys to ask questions. Brilliant huh? You guys asked some awesome questions, naturally, and I knew I'd be going into this thing strong. The only thing left to do was make sure I didn't oversleep. And as luck would have it, I didn't oversleep.
Here's how a typical phone interview works: A publicist calls your desk phone, introduces himself, talks up whichever celebrity you're about to interview, makes sure you pronounce their name correctly, gently guides you towards what you maybe, "should" be asking, and then patches you through. After a brief pause you hear, "Hello", and the interview is on. Now, a very important thing to remember is that you must turn on the Shoretel recording tool so later on you can send it to the transcription service. The transcription service will then send you a nice tidy interview you can quickly post up anywhere you like.
My interview with Naoko was, I thought, pretty typical, and once I started recording, it was all smooth sailing. Naoko was really cool, down to earth, and the conversation flowed beautifully. I asked my questions, I asked your questions, heck, and I even made up a few on the spot! Things were going well I thought. We chatted for about a half an hour or so, I thanked her for her time, she thanked me for mine, and when we hung up, I was all giggly. That's when things took a turn for the really bad.
The interview did not record. At first I thought I'd done something wrong but no, I hadn't, I followed the directions very carefully and was careful to make sure I was careful. This was, after all, a big interview. So I called IT and explained the situation. A co-worker told me IT could, in some cases, retrieve lost recordings from the Shoretel phone system and I was hoping for a miracle.
The conversation went like this:
Me: Hi, is there anyway you can find my interview?
IT: What time did it start?
Me: Around five after nine.
IT: When did it end?
Me: Around quarter to ten.
IT: Ah...well, the thing is...we, uh, we reset the Shoretel servers at 9:25 this morning because we were having some trouble...
Me: So it's gone?
IT: It didn't record anything, yeah...
Me: Oh dear.
Right, so that was that. My interview was lost, I'd look like a fool if I called Naoko back and explained things, and I'd gotten up early for no reason. It wasn't the best start to a day but I knew I'd have to suck it up and try to get something out of the great interview no one would ever hear and I couldn't use quotes.
This piece you are reading is what I've come up with and I hope you're enjoying it. In case you're wondering how Tosh felt about Owen's death in "Reset", I can tell you she felt pretty bad. According to Naoko, it's going to have a huge effect on the entire team. And just when Tosh was started to catch feelings for Owen, oi, the timing is terrible. But Tosh's character has grown since season 1. She's more confident now, more at ease in her own skin. We may be witnessing the birth of a stronger, more determined Tosh who believes in herself and understands how valuable she is to the team. Naoko and I agreed that's what seems to be happening.
Owen may be down but is he out? We doubt it. This is Torchwood after all and death is no match for Torchwood. So what other relationships might be ripe for development this season? If you said Gwen you might be right. I can't tell you for certain because I forgot but it stands to reason that Gwen being the only other female on the team, a strong one at that, might be just the kind of role model Tosh could connect with. Naoko hinted at possible jealousy during season 1 could turn into a sort of admiration. Gwen of course, is the only character with a life outside of Torchwood, something Tosh has been missing for far too long.
Now that I'm writing all this, it probably wouldn't have hurt to ask Naoko about retrieving the lost interview. I mean, she is pretty tech savvy herself. Don't quote me on this, or her for that matter, but I believe she mentioned something about being a bit of a geek. Pretty exciting, eh fellows?
Oh, and I'm sorry to disappoint but there will be no musical episode. Yes, it's true that Naoko, John Barrowman did musical theater together once upon a time; and yes, Burn Gorman and Gareth David-Lloyd are musicians, but the idea of a musical episode, Naoko and I agreed - stinks. She didn't say it stinks, I did, but I'm pretty sure she agreed. We agreed on a lot of things actually. I should have asked if she was married.
I ended the interview with a fantastic question. I asked, "Naoko, do you believe in UFOs?" She said she did believe in UFOs and took it a step further saying there had to be parallel universes, inter-dimensional beings, aliens, etc. etc. I was blown away, it was another thing we agreed upon. That made like forty things! You can't quote me on that, or her on that, because the interview was lost in the depths of the Shoretel universe where some interviews go and never return.
Or was it a time rift? Could it be that the rift opened and swallowed my interview? I don't think I'll ever know. You'll have to take my word for all this because that's all you can do. I have no back up, no evidence to support my story but I give you my word it is the truth as I remember it. If you happen to be one of those lucky people who are friends with Naoko you can ask her, she'll vouch for me. And if you do talk to her, see if she'll give me another interview.
