Hey guys,
Just launched a small site on the side with a small team and we're looking for a group of beta users to play around with the site and give feedback.
The Site:
The Lowdown:
Thinkingsmartr is (hoping to become) the world's largest, collaborative suggestion box. The site allows you to create any topic you want (by default, you become the editor of each topic you create) and encourages you and others to collectively make suggestions that would improve the topic.
Each suggestion is voted on by the community and the best suggestions float naturally to the top while the least important suggestions fall to the bottom. The hope is that with enough passionatte users discussing their ideas to better a topic --- people will take note and the best suggestions will actually take foot.
For instance, say you have a bunch of ideas to make TV.com better. Go ahead and start the TV.com topic and post some suggestions to help make TV.com a better place. Others can then come in and vote on your suggestions (as well as make suggestions of their own) and with any luck your suggestions will actually be implemented on the site (please note -- this is not a garauntee that all or any suggestions will be fulfilled -- but I will personally be keeping an eye on that particular topic
). What we need:
A passionate group of users to play with the site and give us feedback on features you would like to see as well as bugs you come across as you use it. We also encourage you to spread the word --- as more get people involved, the more interesting and fun the site will be.
Thanks guys

1Nov 06Guys -> a quick update:
We just fixed a bug that was preventing you from submitting links with commas in the filename. So now, for instance - a link like:
http://people.aol.com/stories/230,3240,023.html
will submit properly. However, please note that commas are only allowed in the filename, and are not allowed anywhere else in the url. So, a link like:
http://people.aol.com/stories,goodstories/2303240023.html
will not work.- Posted Nov 1, 2006 2:17 pm PT

9Mar 06Wow, its been a long long time since I last posted but I just had to come out and say how excited I am for the much anticipated 6th season of the Sopranos.
HBO has been playing re-runs non stop for the past 3 months to get everybody caught up and it has totally worked. I am so pumped for March 12th.
On a side note - sorry I haven't been as active on TV.com lately.... I've be been working with a small on some new MP3.com features which should be wrapping up shortly. (I'll let you know more as we close in on a launch date).
Take care TV.commers!- Posted Mar 9, 2006 10:04 am PT

12Dec 05Just pushed a fix to the show stars/ep stars/ep crew forms.....
As some of you may or may not know, if you try to attach a person to a show and you couldn't find the person using search, we gave you a little form to 'create a brand new star' while simultaneously attaching him/her to the show you were editing.
THE BUG:
What was happening was that while you were properly attaching this new person to the show, the person's full name was getting inserted into the database with two spaces between the first and last name (now fixed).
This extra space causes our search to ignore the name, which is why these new people you're adding don't show up when you search for them.
Anyway, I pushed out a fix about a half hour ago and I just wanted to give everybody an explanation as to what was going on and that it has been addressed.
On a side note, we are caching the show stars/ep stars pages.... soooooo - if you make a submission in which you are attaching people to a show/ep and you go back to the cast page for the episode and those people are not showing up, it doesn't mean that they didn't get attached correctly -- in most cases, the submission went through successfuly but the page is cached, and therefore the new data isn't displaying.
To check to see if the people you just attached are actually a part of that ep/show - click the Edit button again. Since this page is not cached, you should be able to see the true data in the database.- Posted Dec 12, 2005 3:45 pm PT

8Dec 05We are aware of this problem and are working on a fix right now. If you are seeing blank submissions or if you think you are submitting blank submissions - post back with why you think you are getting them....
We have it down to either, people are submitting, then hitting the Stop or Back button in their browser and then submitting again (so we only get half of a submission, but most of the fields are blank) or, when clicking the link that takes you back to the episode you were editing - if that page is funky, then it seems that you have just submitted a blank submission.
Anyway, we are narrowing it down - if you have any thoughts, post back.- Posted Dec 8, 2005 4:37 pm PT

30Nov 05Just a quick plug for what's going to be an awesome event. If you're living in the San Francisco Bay Area I highly suggest you pick up a weekend or day pass to G.A.M.E.
We're all gonna be there, so it'll be a great chance to check out all of the TV.com staffers in person as well as play some of the latest (even unreleased) games for all of the consoles (and PC).
Anyway, if you're in town pick up a pass and come check it out - its lining up to be a great event.- Posted Nov 30, 2005 5:25 pm PT

17Nov 05Who is still seeing this?
I have Khaki_Dojo, who is unable to see submissions for show she just became editor for - but I want to see who else is having this problem so I can debug it once and for all. It would help if you're going to be online for a few minutes so I can see why/where this is happening and we can PM back and forth while I'm doing this. I think this is only happening with users who get new shows - so if you're seeing this problem, hit back and we can figure it out.
Thanks guys!- Posted Nov 17, 2005 10:28 am PT

28Oct 05Trusted Users:
Just pushed out a fix to allow both trusted users to have immediate push access. Previously, only the trusted user in the first slot was allowed to do this.
Person Editor Queues:
Just pushed out a feature that will allow editors of People to see all people submissions in there moderation queue.
Please post back with any feedback you have regarding these changes so that we can debug any issues that crop up - thx and enjoy!- Posted Oct 28, 2005 10:04 am PT

25Oct 05I'm back and working on TV (finally) after a quick jaunt to help out the Gamespot guys it feels great! Just wanted to post to let all you beautiful users know that we are doing some big time bug fixin on the site.
I'm currently working on some internal bugs (like speeding the big mod queue up and adding extended search functionality to the big mod queue), but hopefully I'll get to some stuff that directly affects you guys soon.
Hope everyone is doing well. Peace OUT!- Posted Oct 25, 2005 5:31 pm PT

27Sep 05Hey guys, just a quick heads up (as I see my PM inbox reach 100+ unread...) - I have been pulled aside to work on another project within cnet, and I will not be able to work on any TV related issues (bugs/features) until we complete this other project. Should be back to work on TV stuff around 10/6.
That said, I will most likely not be checking/responding to any PMs you have sent. I apologize - I will get to them when I return. Take care and happy fall season to all of you

6Sep 05Ok guys, just finished fixing the bug where TV.com would not allow you to add a cast member to a show where the character name had an apostrophe in it. Just tested and it looked ok - but I encourage you guys to check it out yourselves. Of course, feedback is always appreciated

2Sep 05I *think* I found the bug that was causing the discrepancy between the number of submissions in an editors queue and the actual submissions that the editor could moderate. It appears to only hide show summary submissions and it should be fixed.
Please post back with any feedback. You guys are the best!- Posted Sep 2, 2005 2:07 pm PT

31Aug 05Wow - I have been getting a ton of new icon requests from a number of users. While we appreciate your collective work and dedication to TV.com, we are going to hold off on posting new user icons for a bit. Thanks to everyone for their hard work so far

I've been working on some internal tools for our data team and I'm going to be moving on to bug fixes shortly. If you have any questions or comments regarding any user submission bugs you are experiencing on the site (queue bugs, retire bugs, submission bugs) please post them below so I can get a good feeling for what to attack. When posting, can you please follow the format below.
**Please note that I am going to look at functionality bugs, not data bugs - so please do not post saying that Family Guy is only displaying seasons 1-4 and is missing 5 - that is a data bug and can be addressed in a PM to somebody on the data team**
**Also, before posting a bug, please check to see that you're not posting the same bug that somebody else is experiencing - I would like to keep this list as concise as possible - thx**- Posted Aug 31, 2005 10:43 am PT
