  Gaming Goodness

  Good God!

  No matter what platform you choose, you're going to have something awesome to play. It's good to be a gamer!

  The new consoles.

  Although I consider myself a PC gamer, I must admit the new consoles look very good. The one thing that has kept me from enjoying consoles is control (I have a PS2, but I rarely play it). I really love the keyboard and mouse. (I also have the option of using a game-pad if I want.) The other thing is: sitting in front of a high resolution screen. I just like the set-up that a computer gives you, personal and private.

  I cringe at the thought of playing a first person shooter with a game-pad, but when I saw the new Nintendo controller I thought "They finally have a first person shooter solution for consoles." Sony may also have a solution with its motion sensing controller, but I doubt it will be as flexible as the Wii controller.

  As for high resolution, the new consoles do that too. So some of the reasons for me not to play consoles are going away. I still think Nintendo is a "kiddie" platform, but games like Red Steel and Resident Evil are changing that. They just need more.

  This fall, one of the consoles will be sitting next to my computer tower, plugged into My HD wide screen monitor and 5.1 surround speakers. I think it will be the Xbox 360. "Odd choice" some may say since it's the most PC-like of the three and I already play on the PC. My reasons are the following.

  It has a year lead on the Wii and the PS3 and will most likely be supported because of its installed base. It will be easier for developers to use and the games will most likely look as good as the early PS3 games. Xbox Live. There may be some synergies with the PC. I'm hoping for a price drop when the PS3 launches. Blueray isn't an established format and I don't need a HD DVD player just yet. There won't be enough good games for the Wii and PS3 until next year and any games they make aren't going anywhere. I can wait.

  I must say this: DAMN YOU, MICROSOFT! You win. You deny me Halo for years on end. Then you say you're going to make me buy Windows Vista to play Halo 2. Who knows if or when I'll get to play Halo 3 on the PC. Now you're taking Call of Duty 3 away from me and Mech Warrior has totally disappeared. You're sacrificing the PC gamer on the alter of Xbox. So...I'm buying the dang machine.

  As for the 360: Gears of War, Halo 3, Too Human,  Chrome Hounds, Forza Motorsport 2,  Ninety-nine Nights (maybe), Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey and all the Multi-platform games.

  I will be getting a PS3, just not this year. I'll walk into the store past all eager people waiting in line and pick-up an Xbox 360 and some extra games. As for the Wii, as you can see from the list of games that I'm interested in, I don't think their library will have a lot of the type of games I want. I hope they prove me wrong because that controller is wicked.
