Survivor Series Anthology 1989
And I'm off, but this time I'm not going to repeat the dead or those in the hall of fame, just the new people. And one missing from 1988: WWE Hall of Fame: Howard Finkel. On with the show!
The superstars say what they're thankful for and a change in match types. It's a team atmosphere and is now just 4 on 4.
MAtch #1: The Dream Team vs The Enforcers
The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, The Red Rooster, Tito Santana & Brutus Beefcake vs The Big Bossman, Bad News Brown, Honky Tonk Man ?^ The Model Rick Martel with managers, Slick & Jimmy Hart.
WWE Hall of Fame: Dusty Rhodes
Match #2: The 4 X 4s vs The King's Court.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Bret Hart,Ronny Garvin & Hercules vs Macho King Randy Savage, Dino Bravo, Canadian Earthquake & Greg Valentine with Jimmy Hart & Sensational Sherri.
The Dead: Earthquake, Sherri
WWE Hall of Fame: Sherri. Fun Trivia bit: Remember last year and the evil ref turned wrestler Dangerous Danny Davis? Well now he's back to being ref and nobody mentions his stint as a wrestler. See, the WWE threw away logic and storyline 20 years ago, so it's nothing new today. Also, Earthquake (John Tenta) seems to be in the running for most gimmicks: Earthqake, Avalanche, The Shark & Golga.
The Genius reads a poem. Quick! Find the mute button! Match #3: The Hulkamaniacs vs The Million $ Team
Jake Roberts, Demonition & Ric Flair...no wait, Hulk Hogan vs The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase, The Powers of Pain & Zeus (Yes, the actor Tiny Lister) with Virgil & Mr. Fuji.
Hey look, it'a a year later & Demolition & The Powers of Pain still hate each other!
Still active: Referee Earl Hebner. The Hulk Hogan/Zeus feud was one to the stranger things the WWE ever did. Hogan never actally lost by pinfall, but he got beaten up by an actor. Can you imagine John Cena getting beaten up by...oh wait, I forgot about Kevin Federline. Sigh, history does repeat itself then.
Randy Savage & Zeus attack Hogan & Brutus Beefcake during and interview and other wrestlers come in to pull Zeus off Hogan: Red Rooster, Bret Hart, Paul Roma, Ronnie Garvin and apparently forgeting he's a heel, Dino Bravo. The Bushwackers & Jimmy Snuka fight over a chicken carcass. Oh the humanity!
Match #4 Roddy's Rowdies vs The Rude Brood
Rowdy Roddy Piper, The Bushwackers & Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs Mr. Perfect, The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers & Ravishing Rick Rude with managers Jimmy Hart & The Genius.
WWE Hall of Fame: Rowdy Roddy Piper. Match #5: The Ultimate Warriors vs The Heenan Family
Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, The Rockers & The Ultiamte Warrior vs Andre the Giant, Arn Anderson, Haku & Bobby Heenan. Still Active: The Anvil....if you count beating Jay Lethal in TNA. Of course if you saw that match, the Anvil hasn't exactly been active.
Bobby Heenan was in the match because Tully Blanchard failed his drug test (yeah, they did those 20 years ago....then quit) and was fired the day of the ppv and Heenan had to fill in. Well, that's it for 1989. Other than shoving the Ultimate Warrior at us, not much of importance came from this one. Besides Shawn Micheals and a couple of ref, everyone else is either old, dead or fat.- Posted Nov 27, 2009 12:12 am PT

Survivor Series Anthology: 1988
Unlike the Summerslam Anthology, I didn't buy this one (stupid economy) and instead am renting it from the crazy house known as Netflix, which is why I'm starting at 88 intead of 87. It's stunning to see just how much the WWE/WWF has changed and in 20 plus years. I'll point out things of signifigance such as the dead, hall of fame and if anyone is still wrestling or involved with a major company. Non wrester notes:
The Dead: Gorilla Monsoon, Ref. Joey Marella (Gorilla's son)
WWE Hall of Fame: Gorilla Monsoon, Jesse Venturea, Mean Gene Okerlund.
Onto the matches, and I'm not telling you who won, watch for yourself. Match #1: Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, Ultimate Warrior, Blue Blazer (Owen Hart) Sam Houston & Jumpin' Jim Brunzell vs The Honky Tonk Man, Dangerous Danny Davis, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, The Outlaw Ron Bass & Bad News Brown with manager Mouth of the South, Jimmy Hart. Signifigace: Begins Bad News Brown's tradition of walking out on tag team partners.
The Dead: Bad News Brown, Owen Hart.
WWE Hall of Fame: Jimmy Hart. Greg Valentine
Match #2: Demoliton, The Conquistatdors, the Bolsheviks, Brainbusters, and the Fabulous Roueau Brothers with managers Slick, Mr. Fuji, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan & Jimmy Hart vs Powers of Pain, Hart Foundation, British Bulldogs, The Rockers & Paul Roma & Jim Powers. Signifigance: The double swith between Demoliton & the Powers of Pain, with Demolition becomes face and the Powers turning heel, which led to their Wrestlemania match. Yes kids, in the old days, fueds lasted more than one Pay Per View. Shocking! The Dead: Davey Boy Smith
WWE Hall of Fame: Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, Bret Hart, Nikolai Volkoff
Sill wrestling: Shawn Michaels
Match #3: Hacksawn Jim Duggan, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Tito Santana, Ken Patera & Scott Casey vs Andre the Giant, Dino Bravo, Mr. Perfect, Ravishing Rick Rude and Harley Race with managers Frenchy Martin and Bobby Heenan. Signifigance: Builds the fued between Andre & Jake Roberts. And the first and probably ony PPV appearance of Scott Casey.
The Dead: Andre, Dino Bravo, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude.
WWE: Hall of Fame: Andre The Giant, Tito Santana, Mr. Perfect.
And finally Match #4: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Koko B. Ware, Hillbilly Jim & Hercules with Miss Elizabeth vs Akeem The African Dream (former One Man Gang) Big Bossman, Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, the Red Rooster & Haku with managers Slick, Bobby Heenan and stooge Virgil. The Dead: Hercules, Elizabeth & The Bossman.
Signifigance: Kept the Bossman vs Hogan fued alive while at the same time planting the seed for the Hogan/Savage fued.
WWE Hall of Fame: Hulk Hogan, Koko B. Ware. Well, that's it for 1988. Yes it's only four matches but the ppv was about 3 hours long and they actually wreslted, not like today where it's punch, kick, pose, punch, kick, pose, finisher, pin. Stupid skit, pointless interviews. repeat. Off to watch 1989.- Posted Nov 26, 2009 9:16 pm PT

Ice Storm Apocalypse: I Have Returned
If you've watched the news, the ice storm that came through Arkansas hit me and knocked power out at my house until last Friday. It also took out cable and internet and did not get those back until today. I will get my shows updated when I get back from work tonight, so it should be around 1 am. I did not abandon this site, at least not yet. Does anybody know how long I would have to have been gone before I got stripped of editorships?- Posted Feb 5, 2009 12:10 pm PT
