    Billy Joel and Elton John

On Saturday night I saw Billy Joel and Elton John in concert. It was at Nationals Stadium, meaning there was a pretty huge crowd, but we had nice weather and decent seats. It's not like seeing them was a huge priority anyway, as it's hard to really perform on a piano.

Anyway, I'm not a huge Elton John fan but I really love Billy Joel, so it was great. Joel's most notable performances were probably, not surprisingly, We Didn't Start the Fire, Only the Good Die Young, and Piano Man. My Life and It's Still Rock and Roll To Me were also great. Allentown seemed a little random.

Also, watch this. It's called Play by Samuel Beckett and it's absolutely freakin brilliant. Be sure to watch both parts. It will blow your mind.

    Extremes

Those of you who give a damn what I'm up to doubtless know that in the past several months my position on video games moved to ambivalent, then apathetic, then all of a sudden to a relative enthusiasm.

    That enthusiasm is dropping fast.

I think the problem is that whenever I get comfortably into playing/writing about video games, I have this fear that I've irreparably screwed things up and need to get my **** together, fast. Playing games even occasionally makes me massively depressed.

I know it's perfectly possible to balance an interest in video games and a life but I can't seem to manage it. Not particularly surprisingly, it's been a girl who's caused me, the past few times this has happened, to drop games.

Hell, I even picked up Fire Emblem 7, which is, I think, my second favorite game ever (right behind Metroid Prime, which isn't quite as attractively accessible as FE7) and as such is my last-ditch attempt against video game apathy. This time around it's kinda weird: there are still games I find myself wanting to play (FE9, 10, the MGS games, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Elder Scrolls IV) but the thought of doing so just doesn't fly right now.

And yes, reading this blog post satisfies whatever regular requirement you might have for petty teenage angst. Thanks for reading.

    Arabic

I've been taking an Arabic immersion class for the past week. It's pretty wild. The teachers pretty much just yell at you in Arabic for a little over two hours. Despite being wildly confused at first, just a tiny bit of it is starting to come together and it's quite neat. Arabic is a cool language, but the thought of having to master a whole new alphabet is daunting (supposing, of course, that I actually cared enough to work more with the language. The class I'm doing is only a week long).

Fire Emblem DS continues to just barely entertain.

And I'll say it for something like the sixth time: Infinite Jest is the funniest, most brilliant book I've ever read.

Yet another N+ speedrun. This level is a heck of a lot of fun once you get used to it -- dashing around and dodging all those enemies is pretty thrilling.

I died on this level around 200 times before I finally beat it. I finally did, however, and my insane amount of practice allowed me to do it somewhat gracefully and quickly.

This happened in the level "Relics of the Past". I got off the machine to cross the bridge, and I promptly found myself in the lava at the bottom of the level.
