My Friends

artur79's blog

  • 9Sep 09

... is very uncertain atm. I'll keep this short. Some of you have probably noticed that I haven't posted a damn word on this site in a while. There are various reasons for that, but the main one is that my interest in GS is diminishing by the minute. I might be back as a lurker that posts from time to time and comments on various blogs. Or I may not, we'll see.

Anyway, I'm doing fine, currently I'm stuck way up in the North of Norway for half a year, after that I have to join the military, probably the Navy as a shipdoctor (for a yr or so), that'll be weird...

If you want to remove me from your friend lists, I won't mind. I know I'm not much of a poster right now anyway.

Have fun, guys, maybe you'll hear something from me in the future.

I see that I'm becoming Mr Negativity on this page.... My last blogs are a rantfest. Here's one more. Heh.

My PC has been unstable for a while now. It all started about half a yr ago when one of the fans on the mobo died. I haven't really had any problems other than frequent crashes in demanding games. I could live with that, until last week that is.

All of a sudden my computer started to BSOD on my ass, I reinstalled some drivers, same problem, I ran a disk check, things got even worse. It started to reboot indefinitely. After 10-15 reboots, I decided to reformat the whole thing.

My first attempt at that was a phail. The PC froze up 37% into the extraction of XP-files (or something like that). Second time things went fairly smooth. I should have done this a long time ago, my PC boots up soooo much faster now and uses half the amount of RAM when idle compared to just a week ago.

So, things seemed to be fine and dandy again, right? Probably a software problem, I thought. That turned out to be semi-true. Last night the PC did not even put out an image to my TV. I had to restart it 15 times to even get Windows running. Even then, my PC sometimes just freezes after 20 seconds. Funny thing though, if it's stable for a couple of minutes, it'll be stable for many hrs. This is really weird.

I want to get a new PC, but only a moron would buy a new rig right now. W7 is right around the corner, no way am I paying twice for a Windows OS in a year. Don't even get me started on the prices of DDR3 RAM and the new Intel-mobos. AMD is about to release new CPUs and mobos as well.

What all this means is that I'm stuck with a PC that is about to draw a last breath. If it does that, I'll have to buy a crappy laptop to be able to at least pay my bills and check my e-mail.

The really sad thing is that I'm not sure whether I can play modern gfx intensive games on this PC or not. I'm glad I have a PS3 and a 360 as well.

This week I think I'll be setting a new personal record. 93 hr work-week. Maybe more if I work overtime. In the ER. Nightshifts only. Artur crazy. Artur sleep deprived, insomnia.. Cannot compute.

I'm wondering: what is the most you've worked in one single week?

If anyone remembers, I've used some of the last 3-4 months on ripping my CD collection to my shiny new HD as FLAC-files. It is supposed to be a lossless codec that sounds the same as a WAV-file (which is pretty much a direct rip of a song without any compression whatsoever).

I am an audiophile. I want the best possible sound coming out of my speakers/headphones. That is why I buy MP3-players that support the best formats (soundwise) and that is why I just bought new and AWESOME Tannoy speakers and Pioneer receiver. I love music and I love to listen to it without hearing the crappy digital compression in the upper and lower frequencies.

So... On to the point of this blog. I just put a CD into my disc-drive just to see if the soundquality is indeed intact when I convert files to FLAC (I could not shake the feeling that the music sounds a bit digitalized). Well, it's not. There are differencies in the dynamics of a song and the cymbals sound like crap in FLAC compared to a CD/WAV-files. Even my Foobar-player tells me that the bitrate of a WAV-file is 1411 kbps, while that of a FLAC-file around 900-1000 kbps. So now I have to re-rip half of my CD-collection.

    God ****ing damn it!!!

    That is all.

Anyone that is a fan of South Park has already seen the episode where Indiana Jones is raped by Spielberg and Lucas. When I saw that episode I thought to myself: "It can't be that bad. I refuse to believe it sucks this much."

I just saw the latest Indy film. Someone please call 911, a sexual assault is in progress. Two mad film-makers are raping my childhood-memories.

I think Spielberg is getting a little bonkers on his older days.

Why do people have to **** with things that should stay in the past?

I mean: Rocky, Michael Jackson's songs, hell, MJ himself is a freak now, Metallica (not exactly childhood, but whatever), Star Wars, Indiana Jones and I'm sure there's plenty more.

    When will this stop?

I swear to God, if they make a new Ghostbusters or Back to the future, I'll never see a sequel again.

It's in the middle of the night, nothing's happening, but I have to stay awake to take some bloodsamples after a while. Why not write a short blog?

Amsterdam was totally awesome, I recommend that you visit it at least once (and don't forget Barcelona in the summer ).

It's full of coffee-shops, live sex shows and prostitution, but the city has a lot more to offer than that.

My sis studies there, she showed me a couple of cool night-clubs (the club scene is fantastic over there), Red light district (which actually made me a little sad, pretty girls that sell their bodies to horny dogs, not my kind of thing, I don't even like strip-clubs...) and some cool shops, I've already mentioned how much I spent there, lol.

Most people there are friendly and you'll find all nationalities there.

Amsterdam has some crappy weather right now, but if you don't mind a little rain or fog, you'll have a blast. I know I did.

And yeah.... You don't have to drink in Ams to get dizzy. Ehem.

I'm going to Amsterdam this Saturday, I'll be there for six days and then visit some friends in Norway. Can't wait! You all have nice gaming while I'm gone.

Red light district and "coffee"-shops, here I come! I'll try and post a blog about it later on.

I've tried to get into the whole "posting in forums"-thing again and all I see is:

    What u think or

Why are teh Crysis so cool? or

writing long ass posts without a single comma or a capital letter because that clearly is the way everyone should write yeah so what do you think i played fear last night come on LIKE IT!!!!!!!!! you totally suck but what do you think i should play next i have little money but think i get crysis warhead the graphics are awesome.... You get my drift. Posts like this are not only annoying, but painful to read as well. My eyes and brain feel like someone raped them with a fork or something.

Stuff like that was present before, but not to this extent. Just go into any thread on that forum and you'll see people write things even a 10 year old shouldn't write. Did the average IQ of PC-gamers suddenly drop or something?

Don't get me wrong, I suck at grammar. Sometimes I can't even put right words together to form an understandable sentence (see?), but... hell, at least I try.

Edit: Crap, totally forgot that I was supposed to present an awesome song to you guys.

    Wii tennis

And just like Smokey, I'm going to post links to songs in my blogs from now on

    Butters from South Park

Both links (especially the second one) are totally offensive, there, you've been warned.

    Since Friday I've ordered

    Logitech wireless MX5500

Logitech wireless MX5500 KB and Mouse

    LACIE 1TB Neil Poulton Harddisk

    Cowon D2 MP3-player

    PS3 80 GB

    Why?

I want to rip my whole CD collection as FLAC to my PC so that explains the external

    LACIE 1TB Neil Poulton HD

All my music is going to be stored there from now on. I'm tired of CD's, but I still want the soundquality they provide over MP3s.

My old PDA and PS3 were stolen, so I ordered the 80 GB version and one of the best MP3-players (when it comes to soundquality) out there: Cowon D2. The good thing is that I got a really great deal on the Playstation. The bad thing is that I had to buy it all over again. I could have gotten an insane 790i mobo and a q9650 for that amount of cash. ****... Oh well, gotta have a BluRay-player.

The cordless KB & mouse look totally awesome and I have to say that I like the mouse in particular, very ergonomic and stuff. Pretty important since I like to play games and surf the net for many hrs sometimes.

I've used too much this month already, but I'm still thinking about getting a new CPU and a mobo. I was thinking about the already mentioned q9650 3.0 Ghz as well as some 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM and a 790i-mobo (MSI, I think. Or Asus). That way I can OC the CPU up to 1600, so that they're totally in sync with each other. Eh, I think it's possible... Haven't OC'd in a while, especially not Intel-products. Oh, I'll aso need a CPU-fan that is out of this world.

What do you think of my plan? Expensive and stupid or totally worth it? Should I wait for more models to come out? If so, when do they come out?

Okay, I'm at work and I'm bored since I can't sleep and there's really not much else to do. So.... what do I do? Write a blog on GS of course!

While I tried to fall asleep, I started to think a little about GS and games and how much time we all use on discussing games instead of playing them. We care so much about certain topics, that we're ready to spend hrs in "PC vs console"-threads or vote in the endless "What's the best game/RPG/FPS ever"-polls, which you have to agree is as fresh as seeing Madonna in hotpants in yet another video.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that other parts of entertainment business like music, films or literature are somehow more worthy of such discussions, I just think that it's weird that some of us (including me) use so much time on talking about the thing we love to do instead of doing it.

I've written a lot of posts on this site over the last couple of years and I don't regret it, since this forum-activity has resulted in some great acquaintances with some interesting and intelligent people around the world. Still... Lately I've come to a realization that writing the same damn things in threads to the same people is becoming less and less, how shall I say it... fruitful. I just don't see the point in doing it anymore.

So what made me change my mind? Last June I was churning out post after post after post and now I don't even want to see what people are discussing on the PC Forums.

One possible explanation is that I had exams at that time. Read medicine or surf the 'net? Let's see, what is more fun...? Now that I have to work, I don't have a PC around me all the time and when I do, I usually use it to perform work-related tasks instead of checking out random threads on GS. After work, I'm not really in the mood to share my thoughts on Mass Effect or Call of Cthulhu. I play them to unwind instead.

A second explanation is that I took two months off this summer and promised myself that I would use them on doing something else than work, surf the 'net and play games. Guess what, it was great, no, it was fantastic. After travelling to Spain and the US, getting a tan, drinking plenty of beers, taking it easy and simply living the sweet life, I came to a conclusion that posting in threads isn't as funny as I thought.

Gaming on the other hand... I love playing games again, something I haven't felt for a while now. Say what you want, but that is primarily why we're all here in the first place, even if we tend to forget it at times. I still enjoy talking to friends on this site and write a blog from time to time, but the forums are stale and uninteresting to me right now. I'd rather read a good book or game for a couple of hrs than try to convince some stranger to get Riddick or System Shock 2 for the n'th time.

Personally I think I'm just experiencing a temporary shift of interest from one area to another. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to dive into discussions about games sooner or later, I just hope it takes a while before I do that. No offence to anyone on various forums, but I'd rather play games right now than talk about them.

Anyway, I hope this makes sence to someone out there, I'm not the greatest writer in the world, so take this blog for what it is: silly nonsense from a tired guy. And why are you even reading this? Go play a game instead.

And yes, I do see the irony in writing this blog. To my defense, I'm at work.

Soooo, I'm at my mom's looking through some photos from my holiday to the US, drinking a cold one. One thing led to another and here I am, writing that long ass blog I said I'd write. So here we go....

Where should I start? The trip started in Stavanger in Norway. We flew to Gatwick in London. We actually stopped there for the night. To my British friends here on Gamespot: your kebabs are insanely huge. So are the fries. I mean, come on! I eat a lot, still I threw away half of the chips in the trash. My stomach had to deal with a greasy, yet disgustingly tasty kebab. No way was I going to eat all those potatoes dipped in warm fat too. But it was cheap and served with a smile, so I liked that.

Next morning we were on our way to Cleveland. Don't think I need to go into details about that. Let's just say that LCD screens right in front of you with a healthy amount of films to choose from is a good thing on Transatlantic flights. BTW, to those of you that remember... I wrote about my fear of flights back in one of my first blogs. After 14 hrs on a plane, I fear no more. The body simply surrenders, lol. So that whole "expose yourself to your fears"-therapy is really, really effective. Afraid of lethal, poisonous snakes? Sleep with them for 14 hrs and behold! You're cured! And maybe dead...

LA. City of contrasts. Seriously, one of the weirdest places on Earth. One minute you're in some of dangerous places you see on Discovery (yeah, we got lost a couple of times. We weren't exactly nervous, but we didn't stop for a burger either...) where people are poor and a tourist is like an open wallet on two legs. (Sorry if my impression is all wrong and feel free to give me a virtual smack on the head for being a narrow-minded ass.) Half an hour later, you're in the Hills, looking at all the Ferrari's, the shallow, pretty people with too much silicone in their bodies, 50 year old women that look like cats because their facial skin is so freaking tight after all the surgeries. The beautiful women with nasty old men. Money, money, money... One thing that was especially weird was the "ethnical" areas in this city. There's a HUGE Korean town in the city. With Korean signs and everything. That's something I've seen in Norway too, but we're talking about a block or too, not huge areas like in LA. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with that, but man... Human nature, I guess. Familiar = safe or something.

The beaches in LA are fantastic and huge. In fact, I've never seen beaches of this magnitude before. Venice Beach and Manhattan Beach are the ones we visited the most. I heard that Manhattan B was in top 10 in the world when it comes to beautiful women. Eeeh. No. Just no. If you don't belive me, come to some of the great beaches here in Europe. Barcelona is one example. But the waves were great. I even forgot that I'm not really comfortable in the Pacific Ocean, also known as "A shark could bite you in the ass"-ocean. Body surfing (without a body-board) is a lot of fun.

After a few days we were on our way to San Diego. We stopped in Laguna Beach. If you've seen the show on MTV, you know that the only chicks you find there are not finished with high school yet. It's a pretty place and all that, but we didn't stay there for more than a few hours before we headed south.

San Diego is a great town with a relaxed atmosphere. A bit touristy, but that's not always a bad thing. It's a big town, but it managed to have a charming feel to it. If I ever go back to Cali to live there for a couple of years, San Diego would be the first stop, I think. Other than being a great town for relaxation, there's not much to say about it.

One thing I would like to whine about is: All the clubs close at 2 am in California. Who the bloody **** came up with that brilliant idea? We were all drunk, dressed for success and ready to rock at 1 am, just to hear: "We close in 45 minutes." Seriously. And I thought California was a liberal state...

And now the desert. Mojave (I think I spelled it right). 112 Fahrenheit. No wonder people call it Death Valley.. It was pretty cool to see too. Like I said once, fjords are boring. I wouldn't call the desert beautiful, but it's certainly unique. Anyway, I liked it. Not enough to live there or anything like that, but it's was cool to see something completely different from what you're used to in everyday life.

Las Vegas. Sucks. You. Dry. Say goodbuy to your money and your bodily fluids in that place. All the lights, the music, the booze, the insane temperature, zero humidity in the air, sleazy dealers. The place is all about screwing you over. I love/hate Vegas.

We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, which isn't on the Strip, but you don't really have to leave the hotel to have fun, so we didn't bother to go to the Strip more than once. My bro gambled a little and we actually managed to earn some money on poker. 300 bucks or so, we lost more than 250 dollars over the next couple of days, but still. Not a bad result.

Body English is the club to be in at that particular hotel after 11 pm. The weird thing about popular places in USA is that you have to pay off the huge oxes that stand between you and the heaven that is inside the club. WTF. A hundred bucks to get in? Just because we're two guys or "four balls" as that long haired bouncer-moron called us? **** that. This is one of the stupid things about LV and probably many other places in USA I felt I had to mention. We coughed up the money (of course),needless to say, we had a great time inside. Lots of good looking women and lots of VIP-places I got kicked out of. Lol, good times.

The Rehab is the pool party at the Hard Rock on Sundays. Insanely fine women, lots of alcohol, nice bodies, silicone, jocks on steroids, silicone, alcohol, pool, music and a bit more silicone. Confession: not really a fan of fake boobs, they look weird and when everyone has them, the novelty wears off relatively quickly. Let's say it out loud. Fake = meh. Real = yay! The party itself was great, too bad I felt like puking after the previous night. After three hrs I couldn't take it anymore and went up to our room to sleep. I woke up, grabbed a gin & tonic and was ready for Body English later that evening. Yeah, I'm really one of those "do as I say and not as I do"-doctors...

After Vegas our bank-account balances were a pitiful sight. I was feeling like poo the day we decided to move on to San Fransisco, the car was freaking hot after standing out in the the desert sun, I could not eat or drink, I almost vomited several times during the 10 hr car-trip, my heart raced at 100 bpm (dehydration does that to you), but I thought it would be worth it. Finally there! San Fransisco!

I have to say that the city skyline blew me away when we arrived later that day. The first let-down was the hotel. It was one of the more expensive hotels on our journey, yet it was also one of the crappiest and smallest. Second let-down was checking our already mentioned accounts. No more shopping or having fun in clubs, Vegas does suck you dry in several ways. Third let down was the weather. Rain, 59 Fahrenheit (which is like 15 Celsius), plenty of cold winds... Both me and my brother got a cold. Don't get me wrong, San Fransisco is probably a fun city if you're there with your shopping-mad girlfriend or if you live there, but we didn't come all the way from Norway to freeze our asses off in California. So we left the town one day earlier than we originally planned to relax in LA and get rid of the colds. Snot in my nose and nasopharynx = pain in my ears on a plane.

Now on to a few general observation I made in the US.

People in California are very polite and the service is top notch. After stupid waiters in Spain that could not give a rats ass about our food, eating in USA was a joy. I know waiters smile and act like friends primarily for a bigger tip, but regular people often came up to us without a reason to ask where we were from, smiled and chatted for a minute or two. I really like Americans now. Not that I hated you before, but when I saw US-residents in Europe, I often saw loud, drunk apes. I'm glad to say that that is not the impression I have of you now. I still think that you guys do a lot of weird **** in your country, but at least I like you even though I don't agree with all of your ideologies.

Food. Plenty of great food. I don't really see the appeal of all the junk-food, but I like your restaurants. Huge portions, okey prices, plenty of meat. What more can a guy ask for? Oh yeah... What's with all the fries and mashed potatoes? You guys know that you can do a whole lot more with potatoes than beat them to death or fry them? Just saying...

USA = cheap. True and not true. Not true because although restaurants are cheaper than here in Norway, I still used a buttload of money on food. But I guess all vacations are expensive, so this wasn't unexpected.

CNN in Europe >>> CNN in the US. You could feel the stench of nationalism a mile away. Not a fan of that, not a fan at all.

I think I should wrap this up. Too tired to write anything else and I'm sure you're tired of my ramblings by now. All I want to say is that I loved a lot of things about the US, especially the people there, hated a few things and thought some things were just meh. I wanted to post some pics, but that would make this blog even longer, so screw that. Wanna see pictures? Add me on Facebook or send me a message.

    Anyway. Peace.

    Tired Artur.

What the hell happened to GS? I'm gone for a little while and suddenly the site looks all weird and stuff. Bah! I hope I get used to this new look fast, because navigating in here is a nightmare right now.

BTW, I won't have an Internet connection for another month (!). Yay for small places in Northern Norway! This means I have to find alternative means to spamming you all with jibberish. Which means: at work. Hehe, save lives? Meh. Surf and post crap? Woho!!!

BTW, I'm 29 now (21st of August). Feel the wisdom, JP, and bow respectfully. Or else... I'll write something about your hair again.

That blows. One of the best vacations I've ever had. I'll write a long ass blog about my visit to this country, my impressions of it, the stereotypes that are shattered and maybe even the stereotypes that are strengthened. Anyway, it's a country of contrasts and I've had a blast. Talk to all of you guys soon in the future!

Have a nice rest of the summer!

Since it's taking me forever to finish GTA4, I thought I'd share a few thoughts on the game. I know I said that I will review it, but by the time I've beaten the last mission of the game, I'll be working a lot as well as try to get acquainted with the routines of the new hospital and get to know the other docs (probably beg them to hang out with me too). I'll probably take the easy path and... not do it. We'll see.

First of all. This is a great game. Worth your money and then some. Lots of story so far, great dialog (shocker...), fantastic atmosphere, great graphics and at times awesome action. One particular mission stands out as one of the best and most intense GTA missions I've ever played. Which actually says a lot.

I've heard people say that the main char of the game, Niko, is a likeable chap and although I don't think he's a total bastard, it's hard to think of him as a "good guy". To be honest, I liked the ehh.. not-so-scrupulous anti-heroes of the earlier games a lot more. He certainly acts like that most of the times, but there are some "Oscar moments" that feel a bit out of place. Like I said, I haven't finished the game (30-35 hrs into it), so maybe there's more to Niko than meets the eye. Most gangsters do not rob people and then drown kittens in the sink in their spare time, I guess R* are just trying to show several sides of a professional criminal or something, I just think they could do it a bit better. Well, better luck with that in GTA4: Vice City.

So far the game is full of things to do, the good old "Find this or that car and bring it to me", dating, pool, bowling, darts, shows and even stand up (some of it very good!), but some of the activities (which you do with NPC-friends or dates) are pretty shallow after two playthroughs. I usually take people out to eat (which replenishes your health), watch boobs in a strip-club, drink and drive home drunk (because it's fun in games, not in real life, of course) or see a show. Even the lap-dances are a bit boring after a while. All the mini-games are cool additions to the game, but I strongly disagree with Gamespot's reviewer who said that they could be games of their own, they are not that good.

Speaking of friends, they can be annoying. Especially when you have to choose which one you want to hang out with. The one that you have to reject likes you a little less, which isn't a big deal, really, but the whole 'go out with friends and dates to keep them happy' can be time consuming and dull.

One more important thing I should mention is that although there is plenty to do in Liberty city, it's nowhere near the number of activities you'd find in San Andreas. Same with the area of the map, Liberty City is smaller, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Some people might describe this as "dumbing down" (= "less content"). I think it gives GTA4 more focus. I never finished SA simply because there was an insane amount of things to do in that game. The core of the game drowned in the sea of "**** to complete". What can I say... I'm a little OCD'ish when it comes to GTA.

On to some of the gameplay mechanics of the game.

The shooting is a breeze when you get the hang of it, but I missed the precision of a mouse more times than I'd like to admit (you know, since pads rule and all that). Especially when your character locks on an innocent civilian instead of an enemy behind a corner. Totally annoying. There's also a 'take cover and shoot'- mechanic that I'm a big fan of, a lot like Gears' (not an influential game, my ass...). Since your enemies often stay hidden in spots so that you can't hit them, you actually have to advance, which I'm sure will make both FS and Fire happy. This adds more depth and strategy to the combat, which older GTA games lacked. The weapons are great, most of the guns are fun to use (which is pretty important imo, screw realism), the dual-wielding is gone, but the punch of the automatic rifles is as awesome as ever. Grenades are very, very useful, can't say the same about grenades in previous installments of the series.

The driving is more realistic this time around. Not Mafia realistic though. You can race past the cops at insane speeds, crashing into other cars and all they'll do is make a couple of siren-noises, but that's really it, no annoying speed tickets. Hit a police car though and they get pissed. The way the cars handle reminds me more of a semi-arcadey racing game than GTA 3. Most of the vehicles have unique handling abilities and attributes like weight, how much damage they can soak up or top speed, which isn't a new feature, but it's done a lot better in GTA4. This should not come as a surprize to anyone, since current gen console are miles ahead of PS2 and Xbox when it comes to raw computing power. It also takes more skill to drive the vehicles, since they react more realistically to your actions with the pad (which like I said rules when it comes to driving). You can still act like a maniac on the road, which (if you do) some of your friends or dates will point out to you, but you'll crash a lot if you're not used to racing-games. You can change views while in a vehicle, so bumper-view is an option this time.

The sound of this game is superb. I understand Russian, which makes the game that much more enjoyable. Most of the Russian chars are Russians in real-life, always a plus if you ask me. The music is great as always, the weapons, the explosions and the dialog are all better-sounding than ever. The city feels like it's alive and some of the lines the NPC's send your way are simply hilarious. In other words, you get what you expect: quality 99% of the time.

The visuals are not mindblowing, but they are more than acceptable. Instead of me talking about how the game looks, watch some vids or click on some images on this site. I'm a graphics-whore and I'm pleased with how it all looks, that's all you need to know. The framerate is in it's teens and early twenties sometimes, but it usually doesn't last for more than a few seconds. PC-gamers love to point out the pop-up in this game and while I can confirm that it is there, I can't say that it has ever hindered my progress in a mission. So those YouTube vids you saw at launch? It's not that bad and should not be a con against getting a console version. If anything, the lack of precision in gun-fights should be.

If you managed to read all of the crap above, feel free to point out the things I forgot to mention here. I might add a few paragraphs later on and post this as a review. Also feel free to point out how much this blog sucks (you know there will be verbal consequences, right?), writing is not my strongest side, I'm aware of that, but I'd love to improve in that department. Maybe writing reviews will help...

But not really.. Just popping in to see what's happened in the last couple of weeks and read some blogs. After reading a couple, I have a few things to say:

Fire, damn. Reading some long ass replies made my brain (which is on vacation, haven't used it in a while) ache, so I have to give you a rain check on a reply. Congrats on a new job! I'm glad you got it! And get more PC-stuff, although I recommend you get a PS3 and an HDTV after a while. Def worth it, especially for a film lover. I still enjoy movies in SD, but damn... 1080p is purty.

Fatshodan, when did you get a blog diarrhea? Productive all of a sudden, aren't we? I read your chocolate blog. You are weird, that's all I have to say. Can't wait to read the rest of your blogs, lol. I saw the words porno and poop in your latest blog. You, my good sir, have my future attention, I can assure you of that. And no, you're not the only one that has series-marathons, I have those too. Only I puke instead of eating food. I do my marathons only when I'm seriously (yep, seriously) hung over. I mean, can't move or I'll barf = marathon time!

Smokey, I commented in your blog, so you should like cry yourself to sleep tonight and stuff (happy tears), because that's the only blog I decided to write in. What can I say, bad music pisses me off...

That's all the blogs I had time to read (you better feel honored by that ). When I have the time, I'll read some of the others.

Soooo, enough about you imperfect beings. Let's focus on the awesomeness that is me and what this fantastic person (=me) has done lately.

    1. Barcelona rules. Seriously, guys. That's one of the most fun cities I've ever been to. Have time? And money? Go to Barca.

    2. Drinking beer. In Barcelona. Too much beer. Poor liver. Poor brain-cells.

    3. Which leads us to: forgetting everything I've learned for the last few months in school. My first day in my future job is going to be fun. Not for the patients... Well, I exaggerate, of course, I do remember some things. Like we all have two feet, three lungs, one kidney, you know, basic stuff like that is still rock solid, but then again.... I'm going to US in a little over 2 weeks, I seriously doubt I'll even remember what an arm is when I get back.

    4. Getting a tan. Which I haven't had ever since I decided to become a doc. Man, I'm sexy. Yeah...

    5. Getting sunburnt. That was not sexy.

    6. Not playing games. Seriously, I've played GTA 4 for 1 hr and that's it. But since the weather is quite ****ty in Norway this week, that might change. Rain = gaming to me.

    7. Watched both of the Grindhouse-movies. AWESOME! Go buy it and see it.

    8. Started to train again, so I can kick Smokey's ass or at least not feel like a ***** when I watch his training vids.

It's 4:33 here, I'm really tired, so I apologize for the nonsense that is this blog and all the errors.

To those of you that did not know, I'm finished with my studies and have to move up north in August. In the meanwhile, I'll stash my stuff at a friends place and enjoy the summer, the sun, the mini-skirts, the cold tall ones and traveling. I'm going to take my PC apart today and start moving all my crap this evening/tomorrow morning. After that I'll wash the apartment, say goodbye to some good friends and then I'm off to Barcelona this Monday. I'll be there for a week, it's going to be great!

I don't know when I'll log on next time (probably sooner than later), so I wanted to wish you all a nice summer. I hope you all do something else than game all the time. Maybe it's just my Scandinavian ass talking here, but I think the summer is worth a break from PC-related activities.

This is a crappy song, but it's sums up things very nicely.

Anyway, see ya! Or eh.. I'll type one thing and then you reply and then I reply and so on...

I don't plan on writing a blog about every game I've ever played, but I've discussed this game with certain folks and felt like saying that I judged this game a little too soon. I'm not going to write a review, but I'm going to give it a score and list a few reasons for that score.

    7. Yep, I think it's a good game overall.

    Positives:

A few genuinly great levels. I could say which ones, but that would be spoilers. This is what made me finish the game.

Nice gadgets and some cool weapons that allow you to sneak around undetected through a 'scene'. (Still think that Splinter Cell is a much, much better stealth-game, but this is an FPS, so I give props where props should be given.)

A few catchy tunes. But not many. Nolf 2 was brilliant in this department.

This is a long game. (Also a negative.)

I smiled a couple of times.

    Negatives:

Humor is a fickle thing. I did not find this game funny at all. Too... how can I put it politely... obvious and not intelligent jokes. I'm no expert at Brit humor, but I've seen enough to know that NOLF is not great British humor. (Folks from the Kingdom are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong). I would have laughed if I was a child. Don't get me wrong, I love Austin Powers and all that (I loved Nolf 2's humor as well), but this game just swung and missed every time. It was sometimes painful to watch the cutscenes. Something about the pacing and choices of jokes bothered me. There was no subtlety.

It was boring as hell at times. Some of the levels, especially vehicle levels even pissed me off. All I could think of was: "When is this over?!!? Enough already!"

And that's where the length of the game comes in. Sometimes less is more. Filler has never been fun and it's not fun here either.

The characters were all stereotypes. And I mean ALL of them. Even Mike Myers knows that too much of a good thing is eh.. too much.

Anyway, I could list some more reasons, but these are the most important ones imo.

The game is good, but I wish I never played it, it kinda ruined my memories of the second game. I know, weird...

I saw it yesterday. Can't say I understood the message that the movie tried to get across. I'm sure Tommy Lee Jones' dialog is the key to understanding it, but his ramblings about the ol' days and his dreams confused me even more. So, pretty please, with sugar on top (as Mr Wolf would have said), explain the point of this movie to me. Especially the end.

BTW, that serial killer, man... I understand why he got an Oscar. One of the best roles I've seen in a movie since Marv in Sin City.

Had a break in last night, while I slept in my room. The ****er took my ps3. Luckily, that's the only thing missing so far, something must have spooked the bastard off. 5 minutes alone with that pimple on society's ass... That's all I wish for right now.
