Dude, You're Getting A MacBook Pro!
I was sitting at my desk earlier this week and I realized that I've grown tired of dealing with Windows and all the problems that come with using it. Every 6 months I was reformatting just to keep it going smoothly. And even at that, within a month it would already slow down to a crawl because of everything running in the background such as Internet security program, backup utility, Version Cue, etc. I currently have a laptop running Windows XP which has more then adequate specs to run all my software so that's not the issue.
So, with that, I considered just getting a new Windows machine thinking I just need more power. However, the thought of using Windows Vista just disgusts me. I've used it at work plenty to know that I absolutely don't like it. I even gave it another chance when SP1 came out but my experience with Vista just wasn't a good one. So, that just wasn't an option for me.
Not wanting to spend a lot of money in the past, I even gave Linux a spin. While my experience with Linux was a great one, it just didn't work as well as I need it to. For instance, Flash has some issues such as no support for transparent backgrounds and that caused some websites to look very odd! And it doesn't support Office 2007 documents at the moment, so that left me locked out of my documents basically.
So at this point, I figured it was time to bite the bullet and fork over the money for a MacBook Pro. The cost really was the only thing keeping me from owning a Mac. But, after a month of thinking about all the pros and cons of a Mac I realized that there's a reason why they are so expensive. So it was easier to justify the cost of one and I went ahead and customized and ordered one. Here's what I got:
- MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen
- 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 4GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2×2GB
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB
- 200GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm
- The rest of the tech specs.
So yeah, it's a beast of a machine, and it should arrive on Tuesday. So I will report more on my initial experience. Until then, I will be backing up all my data for migration.

Firefox and Vista Can Now Be Friends
As most users of Windows Vista may know, Mozilla Firefox did not properly work correctly as far as streaming Windows Media files was concerned. Why? Because Microsoft did not supply that WMP plug-in that 3rd party browsers needed for that to work. Well as of yesterday, Microsoft's Community Team and Windows Media Team released a Firefox plug-in that will allow for such support. Now you can stream Windows Media files in Firefox! Great news, took forever for this to happen and I don't know why it was missing in the first place, but great news.
So if you use Firefox on a regular basis, or like me, just for testing cross browser compatibility for websites then go grab the plug-in and enjoy! port25.technet.com
As a side note, yes I know there was a way to get it working before this, but I'm not a big fan of 3rd party hacks to my operating systems especially when they are as generic as the old fix.

Proud Owner of WoW:BC Collectors Edition
/cheer
Yesterday at about 2pm my face lit up like a small child receiving a present on Christmas day. I received my copy of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Collectors Edition in which I took and set on the shelf next to the collectors edition of the original game. Oh yes, it did feel so good!
Later on this evening, I will post some post some pictures of the two boxes next to each other so people can envy me.
