Well the walls have come tumbling down.

We've moved the VU off-site now, so there's no need to stay here anymore. Those of you who are coming with me, I'm glad. Those of you who aren't, I will miss you.

Saddest of all is that I will miss the people I still respect who work here like AlexN and Bethany. I hope you know though, that I'm leaving just as much for you as I am for me. It's a small gesture in the long term but it's the only way I can show GS that they have lost me completely. I've cancelled my five year + subscription and will make no further contributions to this site.

Those interested in checking out the new VU can follow the link below.

There are two types of people in this world.

    • People who believe Quaid never left Rekall
    • And people who believe he actually went to Mars

    Which are YOU???

Incidentally, if you've never seen Total Recall, you don't exist.

Spiderman 3 is out. And I haven't even bothered to pick it up. After two stellar installments in the series the third just fell so flat. It was so crammed full and most of it wasn't necessary. If they had left Venom for another installment it would have fixed most of it. Although there were still some pretty stupid decisions made throughout the movie.

Like for example the giant testing facility just out in the open that you can happen to come across while running from the law. HUH??? What the hell people? Would it really have been that tough to show him break into a place to try and lay low? Or anything moderately believable? I'm all for comic book logic, but some things are just stupid. And that's one of them.

And what court of justice saysit's fineto lay waste to half the NYPD then make it all OK by saying "Oops, sorry... uh, Venom made me do it"?

I've been trying to get the last few Achievements in Halo 3 quite vigorously. Normally I'm not an Achievement Junkie, more of an enthusiast. I like them, I get them when I can, but I won't keep playing if I don't care about the core game just for some arbitrary points I might nab.

However with the big releases, the games I truly LOVE like Halo and Dead Rising, I want them all! And I got one step closer today at finished the Achievements in Halo 3 when I finally got Mongoose Mowdown. Which I consider to be the most annoying of all the possible Achievements.

Why is this one so annoying? Because you can't really sneak up on anyone with the damn Mongoose. It sounds like 14 lawnmowers buzzing right behind you. So getting a kill with the blasted thing in a ranked game is a rare and wonderful thing. Getting a splat with the Ghost is easy peasy, the Warthog even isn't that tough because it's so bloody big. But finally I found some lackwit who obviously had his volume turned down and stood in the archway of High Ground just long enough to me to splat him down. God bless the people who don't pay attention to their motion trackers.

So I got a "STEAKTACULAR" medal in Halo 3. Only thing is, I haven't a clue what it means. Anyone know? Thanks in advance for your enlightenment.

So yesterday my copy of Beautiful Katamari came in and I went to pick it up. I grabbed Orange Box while I was there too. Then I noticed the new Tony Hawk game was out. Even though the demo was just more of the same and even though SKATE was a great game that I think stole a lot of the attention from the Tony Hawk games, I still ended up picking it up too.

I've played all of them and frankly the last one (Project was little more than shovelware. Still, it's a pretty fun game. Even if buying it made me feel like a tool.

OK here's the thing. I love Halo. If you don't that's fine, that's only a small part of what this post is actually about. Yesterday I played in the first round of Gamespot's Halo tourney. I had no delusions about whether or not I was gonna win, I knew I would get creamed. While I was pretty decent at Halo2, I haven't had much time to get to know the new game between collecting skulls and co-op with my best friend. Not that knowing it well would suddenly make me a Halo master, but that's not why I play anyway. I play for fun. I want to laugh when I get killed and when I get a kill.

What I definately DON'T want is to be berated for 45 minutes by my own teammate who doesn't bother to spit out any advice other than "Why weren't you watching my back" even though I was hardly ever even in his vicinity much less in a position to watch anything. So the tourney was a bust as I expected and by the time it was over I was damn glad of it. Even if we had won I would have withdrew rather than play again with the whine factory who blames every one of his deaths and the enemies points on others through constant... and I do mean CONSTANT... cursing and taking God's name in vain. (Yes, I do believe in God and yes, even though I drop a GD bomb once in a rare while it tends to bother me when someone says it every 4 seconds)

I've gone off track again. The point of all this yammering is that I've decided to not be a burden on futures teams I get put on through match making and learning to play better. And tonight, I actually won my first Slayer match. And I do mean my first. Not my first on Halo3, not my first since the tourney, I mean I've never made it to 25 kills before the other members of the match before tonight. And I played a good amount of Halo2 and a few rounds through the H3 beta as well. But tonight I actually got to win one for a change. And while it did feel good, it felt a whole lot better that I was playing with people who were good sports. No one was **** or whining about kills, some were laughing, I even made a new friend out of it and added him to my list so that maybe we can play in the future. He won the first match, and I won the second, then I congratulated him and thanked him for agame well played.

So hopefully I can get better but mostly, I hope to keep finding people who will actually play for fun and enjoy the game with me, rather than making me wish I never played with strangers.

UPDATE: I went back after writing this and won no less than two more games. Of course in between those two games I got murdered by an extremely better player in a match I'll call the Deadening if I save it, but the two wins were great. The second of which came down to me and the other guy tied for the lead in a last point, winner takes all shootout with one another, and I got the luck shot! GO ME!

I sent off a few comics to Stuntmutt from One-One-Seven and he's blogged them. HBO was kind enough to give them a nod as well. Here's a LINK to the HBOupdate piece.

I gotta say, over the past three years there has been a virtual renaissance in quality television. Stuff really worth watching. Stuff that when you talk about having seen it you don't feel like a bottom feeding mouth breather. Shows like Lost and House and Heroes and especially this years exceptional summer series, Burn Notice.

I caught the finale last night and it was fantastic, just like every episode was fantastic. But it really grabbed me and took me along for the ride. A two hour double episode and it flew past.

If you havent seen Burn Notice, you need to. iTunes it or buy the innevitable DVDs when they come out. There's is nothing about the show that is less than stellar. CHECK IT OUT!!!

In the early 90s I played and loved all the popular console RPGs. FF 1-2-3 (yes I know they were numbered differently in Japan), Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star, Secret of Mana... I played them all. I even played a couple of Ultima games.

Then something awful happened. Final Fantasy 7. I hated it. Now before you tell me to go (bleep) myself, remember that this is my blog and not yours. If you like it, more power to you. I love Halo and lots of people don't like that so let's just leave the opposite opinions on what is and isn't cool where they belong. Your own blogs or journals or forum posts.

After FF7 everyone started making similar games. And knock-offs of a game I didn't like to begin with is like the worse thing ever. So I lost interest in RPGs altogether by the end of 97. I tried to play one once in a while. I tried Legend of Dragoon. I tried some RPG on the Dreamcast. And I even tried FF10 because despite my distaste for the series at that point, it was pretty. But none of them appealed to me at all.

Not until KotOR anyway. But that is really more action oriented and I am a Star Wars nerd so I took that as an aside rather than a new love for the genre. I tried Morrowind and then Oblivion too and they were OK, but really not what I call RPGs since most of the fighting was real time and controller intensive rather than menu driven like the RPGs I played years before.

What I don't get is why now, all of a sudden, I'm starting to regain an interest in the genre. I've been playing Blue Dragon and it's really fun. More cutsey than I normally like and there's no opportunity to shoot anyone in the face so it has that going against it. But I'm still playing it and still loving it. And after the demo of Eternal Sonata I've been thinking about playing that one too. And then there's Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect coming later down the queue. And While Mass Effect falls more into the KotOR pipeline, it's still classed as an RPG at the end of the day.

So why after years of loathing the genre am I suddenly becoming interested again? Admittedly BD is "old school" enough to see the connection, but that doesn't explain the continued interest since it's nearly over for me. What the hell is happening to me!! None of those games have zombies in them!! Or if they do they're silly little frog zombies!!

    I need some Halo.

Yesterday some bloke in the GGD posted a link to some fabulous gaming vids titled "Zero Puntuation". The cat who makes these is seriously funny and seriously spot-on with most of his opinions. While I don't agree with all of them, it's pretty hard to dispute them when you're rolling on the floor laughing yourself to tears, which is likely if you click the link below. ENJOY!

    Zero Puncutation; watch them all!!!

Supposedly new vids pop up each Wednesday so add this one to your favorites. And thank me for sending you there later.

    THIS VIDEO has been going around the web. Not something I can ever see myself being able to complete on the game, but I'm sure some people will enjoy trying. Until their guitar does this;

After this weekends patching of the game, and the total lack of respect for the fair players who were leveled without ever doing anything wrong, I'm turning away from a game that I thought would last me for months, if not years. All in the name of fairness.

I realize that the rampant cheating by a few was the cause, but many if not most of them still had their huge bankrolls even after the "fix" leaving one to wonder what exactly was the point? Oh, they can't cheat anymore? Well lets just wait and see how long it takes for the dishonest to invent new ways to cheat while I'll still be a heavily punished honest player who did nothing but contribute to the community, give credits to new players and ask nothing in return, and sell my car designs.

Some of the more prominent community members say it's foolish to leave the game. Stay and help "rebuild", stay and keep selling your designs. People still want them. Yeah, and what happens when another cheat appears? I get leveled again while still doing nothing wrong? The bottom line is all the cars I sold honestly are still in the garage of the people who bid on them, but my in game compensation was taken.

    "Fairness" my ass.

With the discussion turning towards the marketing blitz for Halo3,
I threw this together from layers used in the comics I made for
Stuntmutt over at Halo.Bungie.Org for his one-one-seven strip.

When CoD3 first hit store shelves I wasn't super thrilled. I'm not into WW2 shooters, or really anything with a realistic setting. I like to kill aliens and monsters and demons etc. Nazis, although a great enemy in theory, are just not as exciting to me as gunning down a Covenant raiding party.

But with my new gamefly account entering nearing it's third month I decided to rent CoD 3. I played the second game because it was the best graphical shooter for the 360 when it launched and it's always nice to have that great looking game to justify why you just plunked down such a huge chunk of change on a new console. It was fun, but end of the day it was still just a WW2 shooter and not that memorable for me.

Now that we're (my best friend and I) are playing the third game, it's definately leaving a better impression on me this time around. The game looks fantastic and it's obvious that it was built from the ground up on console hardware rather than being a PC game port. It plays great and the levels are exciting and fun. The achievements are well done with a fair balance of single and multi player attention given.

All in all this game hasn't turned me into a WW2 gamer by any means, but it was worth the rental and I'm glad to have played it, even if it's just a time-passer until the games of August start rolling in.

OK so I've spent the last week working myself away from cigarettes. I've gottem myself down to only three smokes a day. The goal is to quit of course, but I'm feeling good about the progress I've made.

The withdrawls aren't that bad. It's finding myself being all fidgetty with my hands. They've got nothing to do all day where they used to be constantly in motion.

And I have a now useless Zippo collection.

I'm gonna go yell at the carpet.
