I decided to pick out the stand-out songs from Rock Band 2 and give my opinion, again, but this time it's a little more specific, for better or worse (sometimes I'm serious, a couple times I shoot for horrible comedy).
Motorhead-"Ace of Spades": Keep, especially being a master recording rather than that lousy cover from Guitar Hero.
Avenged Sevenfold-"Almost Easy": Almost easily the biggest copy-cat "metal" band out there, replace them with someone like Ill Nino, Shadows Fall or even Spineshank and it'd at least be a step in the right direction.
The Guess Who-"American Woman": I think many of us are curious on this one, and I'm SO glad it's not that Lenny Kravitz cover.
Metallica-"Battery": A band I hold a deep, passionate hate for, but this is the song by them that made it onto my original Guitar Hero wishlist and it's not "Master of Puppets" (only one of their many overrated songs), so I guess I can tolerate it.
Kansas-"Carry On Wayward Song": Kind of surprised to see they're putting this song in, I thought the Guitar Hero 2 cover was perfectly fine but I guess it'll be interesting to try singing it.
System of a Down-"Chop Suey": A band of surprises under the circumstances if you ask me, I'm surprised they didn't make it into Guitar Hero or Rock Band sooner and surprised they didn't pick "Toxicity" or "Aerials" (think that'd be the best song for Rock Band), but "Chop Suey" is a start.
Mastodon-"Colony of Birchmen": Honestly, how can people actually LIKE this and go so far as to call Blood Mountain, the album it's off of the best metal album of 2006 and call them one of the best new metal bands is horrible blasphemy. They're like Black Label Society with even more suck; I'd rather see "Suicide Messiah" on here than "Colony of Birchmen".
Disturbed-"Down with the Sickness": I don't think I need to say how long we've been waiting for this song, and I'm glad it's going to be playable on all four instruments.
Foo Fighters-"Everlong": Good song and Foo Fighters are always a plus, but I would've really preferred to see "There Goes My Hero", that's my favorite song by them right now.
Nirvana-"Drain You": Still waiting for "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
Modest Mouse-"Float On": I actually almost forgot about this song, but I'm glad it's in the game, such a good song.
AFI-"Girls Not Grey": I like the song but I don't like it, it's catchy but I don't want to admit it. We'll see how it plays out in the game.
Rise Against-"Give It All": This song is going to have me and my friends singing the chorus altogether, that'll make for a scary recording if/when we upload it.
Survivor-"Eye of the Tiger": I'll give it the thumbs up because the vocals are going to be fun.
Duran Duran-"Hungry Like the Wolf": The song name makes me ROFL, and sadly the only song I know by heart by them is the one that goes "reach up for the sunshine".
The Muffs-"Kids In America": It'll be the pure definition of bittersweet in the game.
AC/DC-"Let There Be Rock": I hate them almost as much as Metallica mostly because of how overrated they are, but at least it's not "Back In Black", that song just makes me cringe (yes, that means the beginning of Iron Man had me cringing in my seat like I was having a seizure), but if it was "TNT" I wouldn't be complaining.
Bon Jovi-"Livin' on a Prayer": I'm very, VERY surprised they didn't put "Who Says You Can't Go Home" in, but I guess I wouldn't care too much either way.
Alice In Chains-"Man in the Box": Having "Them Bones" was a start, so this was the next best place to go.
Jane's Addiction-"Mountain Song": I hated "Stop" in Guitar Hero 2, but I will admit to liking this song, I just hope it won't keep me stumped.
Lit-"My Own Worst Enemy": I never expected to see this song in the game, but it's awesome that they are, the lyrics are so great and catchy.
Panic At the Disco-"Nine In the Afternoon": Why? What have we done to deserve this?
Linkin Park-"One Step Closer": I'll set my disliking for them aside for now since this is the best song.
Blondie-"One Way Or Another": Just start singing the chorus, I dare you to stop...
Lacuna Coil-"Our Truth": I'm not a fan, but I honestly think this will be a fun song, the vocal implementation should be interesting.
Judas Priest-"Painkiller": And here I thought they weren't insane...any group of guys that can FC the entire song with all instruments are bigger Priest fans than me.
Megadeth-"Peace Sells": Megadeth is always an interesting inclusion, but I think we're all still waiting for "Holy Wars".
The Who-"Pinball Wizard": These games are going to get me into The Who, the only song I haven't heard of from these games is "Behind Blue Eyes", and so far they don't have a single song I don't like.
The Allman Brothers-"Ramblin' Man": It's about time we saw these guys again.
Ratt-"Round and Round": Eh...it'll be fun to sing.
Guns 'N' Roses-"Shackler's Revenge": Please defer to my opinion on Metallica.
Sonic Youth-"Teen Age Riot": No..."Kool Thing" was torture enough (sorry stevenscott).
Smashing Pumpkins-"Today": I'm still waiting for "1979", that should've been the first song we should've seen by them in Guitar Hero or Rock Band.
Jimmy Eat World-"The Middle": Oh how everyone's middle school side will come for this song, myself included.Well, even though I'm going to have to live without my old save games from my old hard drive on my 360 I decided to download a couple things and I decided to start with the Judas Priest album Screaming For Vengeance, "Hysteria" by Muse and the Disturbed track pack for Rock Band (which I was actually surprised to find my Live account remembered me downloading rather than chipping me off and forcing me to buy again) and see if I could finally get the Too Human demo. While I waited I played Rock Band and in-spite of me having to disconnect due to an update for Lumines (trial version came with my new 360 and I needed something other than Rock Band to kill time) which would normally screw my downloads over from Xbox Live the Too Human demo downloaded without a hitch and even though I didn't play through the whole demo (it was 5 in the morning and I had been playing for at least 3 hours straight, give me a break) it didn't freeze or stutter, so that was a huge relief. All I can say is that I know for a fact that Too Human is going to be the first game I buy a strategy guide for so I can have a better idea of what to do in the game, because I was rather lost and confused while playing. But based on what I played I'm willing to bet Silicon Knights is using the first Too Human game as a placeholder to see how well the formula holds up so they can improve, flesh out and hopefully perfect the formula in the sequels. Those that doubt the trilogy all I can say is give the first a shot and I'm willing to bet when they get the second out it'll be more up to speed technically and comprehensively than this one.
Oh, and let's just say that when I went to Hot Topic yesterday to buy a Dark Knight shirt the first thing I heard in a screamer voice was:
"Get to da CHOPPAAAAAAA"
I look to one of the girls working there and say in a half interested, half confused and all-around shocked way "alright, who does this?" She grabs a CD and says "you know what, this is the first time I heard this CD, you look at the song names and tell me" as I take the CD and look at the names. The CD cover:
That's right, apparantely the singer from As I Lay Dying (not a huge fan, but those of you that are I think I know what you're thinking right now) decided to get together with a few other guys and do a CD dedicated to California's gaaooovenaaatooor (sorry, couldn't help it). To give you an idea of what I thought when looking at the CD, here's the track listing:
1. Hello California
2. Get To The Choppa
3. Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers
4. All of the Songs Sound the Same
5. I Am a Cybernetic Organism, Living Tissue Over (Metal) Endoskeleton
6. Come with Me If You Want To Live (with a guitar solo from Adam D of Killswitch Engage, one of the several guests)
7. What It's Like To Be a Singer at Band Practice
8. Who Is Your Daddy and What Does He Do?
9. You Have Just Been Erased
10. Broo-Tall Song Idea
11. Here Is Subzero, Now Plain Zero
12. So Far, So Good, So Let's Talk About It
13. Screw You (Benny)
14. Why?
15. If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It
16. It's Not a Tumor
17. Not So Hidden Track
So yeah, YouTube 'em, add a song by them to your Myspace, just do whatever you can to listen to them, they're the best comedic metal band...EVER.
I decided to stick with the 360, partly because only one person said I should've stuck with Sony. I traded in a few games and with my Edge card along with the extra 20% my Gamestop was offering towards trade-ins I managed to get nearly $100 in credit for 6 or 7 games towards the new 360. After a good 10-15 minute wait I got my Gamertag off Xbox Live successfully (I just think many of my last 360's problems stemmed from my old hard drive). I might make a blog about the differences I've noticed between my old system and my new one but until then...
Give me some ideas to what me and my friends should do for our Xbox 360 Demolition/Destroyed Part/Episode 2. We already did the rigging the 360 with firecrackers, plus my old 360 will be a huge pain to take apart and put back together now. And I'd rather not just beat the thing up (although I did give it a few wacks with a hammer recently on one of its sides and slashed the sides with one of my razor/box cutters from work). Got any good, original and SAFE ideas?
A while ago I posted a blog saying that my 360 was officially busted for good and asked your thoughts on whether I should ditch it or buy a new one. Well, of course afterwards it began to work as far as playing games but naturally with my decision to make a two part 360 video blog it's actually bit the dust. Not only will it not download stuff but two minutes into playing Gears of War it froze, so I'm not even going to bother giving it a chance if this is what I can expect (so if you want to see an Xbox 360 Destruction Part 2 video give me and my friends some ideas since doing the firecrackers thing again would be kind of repetitive to us).
So I'm faced with a few decisions. I can go ahead and buy a new 360, which I have a number of options to go with. If I buy a new 360, I'll give you an idea of my money situation. After my paycheck today I have $300 on me along with $200 between two of my graduation checks that I'm pretty sure I can cash in to add to my money. And if my bank account by mail has been accepted by now I have $700 (also from graduation money checks) in my account (still waiting for my debit card though), so technically I have $1300 on me. And I get paid weekly at Winn Dixie and get anywhere from $150 to $200 per week. If I do get a new 360 here's a few things to consider: I will have another (wireless) controller, bringing my controller count to four and the new motherboards are supposed to make hardware issues less likely but I hear they only lessened the chances of hardware failure/issues by about half. If you need a reminder of the 360 options I have (and if I'm lucky my friends might be able to lend me some cash and, depending on where I'd buy it I could get a discount and I could possibly trade in a few games to put towards it):
Arcade: Unlikely I get this one but it has five Xbox Live Arcade games and a 256MB memory card, which really means nothing to me besides some saves. It's $280.
Pro/Premium: Has a 20GB hard drive (I actually think some of my issues are coming from my current hard drive, so I'd likely fetch my GamerTag from Xbox Live) and is currently $300. But if I heard correctly they'll be selling them with 60GB hard drives for $50 more in August. Given how much I get paid each week I could always upgrade to a bigger hard drive down the line (including the 120GB hard drive), but it's still a tough choice in my eyes.
Elite: Comes with a 120GB hard drive and is black (which I personally think looks cooler than the white color) and is currently $450.
Now, on the other hand I could just ditch Xbox altogether and stick with the PS3 (which gets little to no attention from me, so I'd either play even less or play PS3 more). If this is the case then I'd wind up selling all my 360 games and accessories. Just so you know, here's what I have and would thus sell:
-20 GB Hard Drive
-Two Wireless Controllers and One Wired Controller
-Power cable/brick (you never know)
-HD component cables
-Rock Band Drumset
-Wired Stratocaster Guitar controller
-Wireless Les Paul Guitar controller
-Call of Duty 4
-Halo 3 Legendary Edition
-Guitar Hero 2
-Guitar Hero 3
-Rock Band
-Far Cry Instincts Predator
-GTA IV
-Saints Row
-Burnout Paradise
-BioShock
-The Orange Box
-Red Dead Revolver
-Halo: Combat Evolved
-Gears of War Collector's Edition
Also note that if I were to ditch the 360 I'd be missing out on Gears of War 2, Too Human (both in my Top 10 Anticipated Games as of now) and any other 360 games I'm looking forward to. And no, I'm not going to go the PC route (because I have the worst luck with PC's) or a Mac (partly because I hear they're ridiculously expensive), so bear that in mind (aaronmullan). So put yourself in my shoes, having had to deal with countless 360 issues, Microsoft's arrogance but possibly having to let go of several beloved games and upcoming games I could love to death as well. Thanks for reading!
Recent and year-old issues with the 360 and gripes with Microsoft in-general have let me to make a two-part video blog/rant on how Microsoft has become the big screw-up company of the century and more specifically, the Xbox 360 and it's issues. I've already recorded the first part and will likely record the second part later tonight. The time it takes to edit the videos will depend but I'll have them up ASAP.
For those of you that remember my blog about the PS3 that I titled "PS3: The System of Tragedy", think of these upcoming videos as me giving the 360 similar treatment, except I'll be a lot harsher on the 360 since the issues it and Microsoft have are that much more than Sony and the PS3.
Alright, you get the picture, just a list of ten games I'm looking forward to regardless of whether or not they're officially confirmed (this really only applies to one of the games). I'll also be giving what I think the game's average score will be, even if for some of them it's based on absolutely nothing. Here we go:
10. Killzone 2
About the only reason this game is on my list is curiosity, I just want to see how well it's handled considering all the delays, and since I'm one of the few who (at the time) enjoyed the first Killzone (even though it's pretty lousy now). This is one of the very few times I'm not really looking forward to a game for its story (I don't see this one having much in that department) but more just how well everything else is handled. We already know it's a looker, but I think most of us want to know how it's really coming along as far as us being in control.
Average Score Prediction: 72%-81%
9. Far Cry 2
Even though I've only played through Far Cry Instincts and played the Evolution storyline for not even an hour I've still got my eyes looking towards this game every so often something new pops up on it. But really my main incentive towards wanting to play it is because I think it's the closest I'll ever get to Crysis (being that I'm not a PC gamer, half for there not being many PC exclusives that entice me and that I always wind up getting the horrible computers). Like Killzone 2 this one is a real looker but what puts this above it is that I basically know it should offer more than just looking nice, I just hope the controls are brushed up from how odd Instincts felt on both the Xbox and 360.
Average Score Prediction: 84%-92%
8. The Darkness 2
The first game was one I really only bought because the preview on X-Play looked pretty nice. And go figure, they went and gave it a 2/5, shame on you both! Anyway, I liked the first Darkness game thanks to its gritty $tyle and powers. There was potential for a better story but it really came down as just decent with an excellent narrative. I'd actually have to say this game's strongest point was its sound and audio, but when you have Mike Patton providing the voice of a dark, sinister being in the back of your head, you really can't complain even if you want to. I'm hoping that they'll just come out and announce a sequel in the works (I even hear they're making a movie, which should be interesting), because there's still plenty of room for improvement.
Average Score Prediction: 79%-85%
Prey 2
This was one of those guilty pleasure games that I was looking forward to like crazy, and although I will be the first to admit some of its flaws I still enjoyed it quite a bit and I'm curious as to what will be brought to the table for the sequel. And even though the original game plainly states there would be a sequel, it does so in a way that you really don't know what to expect, which I like; if you're looking forward to a game and don't know what to expect, it makes the surprises that much more effective.
Average Score Prediction: 77%-86%
6. Project Origin
I don't think I even need to mention how fun and awesome FEAR was. For me, it was like Half Life 2 in confined spaces with much more...explicit content. But the destruction (both human and environmental), guns and pure entertainment of the first game is all the more reason I'm looking forward to Project ORIGIN, which looks like they'll have some new things to break any monotony up, which, needless to say, is awesome.
Average Score Prediction: 88%-94%
5. Need for Speed Undercover
Yes, my inner Need for Speed fanboy is coming out once again. Alright, I guess I'm not that big of a NFS fanboy since I didn't even bother with ProStreet after playing what I thought was a lousy demo and hearing not so great things about the game itself. What's killing me is that this game is supposed to be released later this year but nothing has been shown of it, not a single screenshot; I want my Mustangs and Lambos! But if this game really is going to be like the few statements made say it's going to be, in that it'll be similar to Most Wanted, then I got nothing to worry about.
Average Score Prediciton-81%-87%
4. Gears of War 2
I did really enjoy the first Gears of War, but I still feel that there was plenty of room for improvement. The story could've been better, single player could've been longer, and the mutliplayer, despite what bigger fans will insist, was far from being "top played game on Xbox Live" worthy. But so far all the stuff I've seen and heard about it looks very promising, I even think the multiplayer is actually going to keep me hooked after the single player, which looks like it'll have more of a story and hopefully be longer.
Average Score Prediction: 86%-94%
3. Red Dead Revolver 2
I don't care what ANY of you have to say about the first, I loved it, bought it to play on my 360 two months ago and once I got past the Bad Bessie freeze glitch I was back in love again. This is a game I've been impatiently awaiting an official announcement and release. While I hate the thought that this might just be a spiritual successor, I still want to get more of the game, so give me and the cult following what we want already!
Average Score Prediction: 76%-83%
2. Rock Band 2
I think my last two blogs said more than what needed to be said about this game, and I needed to hear was "Painkiller" and see that insane drumset and I was sold. Now I just need to decide which purchase route I'm going with.
Average Score Prediction: 85%-91%
1. Too Human
I know I'm one of the very few guys that's looking forward to this game and think that it'll be a great, complete experience. I've been wanting to get my hands on this game for nearly four years, and I still haven't played through the whole demo on Xbox Live. Why might you ask? Well, let's just say that like every other demo it kept freezing before I could even do battle (first time it froze I got to kill a few enemies) and that I kept getting disconnected from Xbox Live after deleting and trying to redownload it, then my ISP decided to go down for the night as well, so I'm left having to likely wait till tomorrow to even begin downloading the demo again. But after I got a little more used to the controls while fooling around the first time before it froze, the combat and gameplay were quite fun, and I kept restarting the demo just to hope I could kill more enemies by just tapping the analog stick. As long as the full game doesn't have any freezing issues, I think I'll be addicted. Sadly, I can't say really anyone else will feel the same as me.
Average Score Prediction: 74%-82%
