My Friends

22May 09

E3's almost here. That means the game industry has a chance to right all the wrongs in this blog. Make it so!

Virtual Console:

Awesome. Could be awesomer. Needs more of this:

Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Ducktales (NES)
Earthbound (SNES)
Final Fantasy IV (SNES)
Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
Gyromite (NES)
Mega Man 4 (NES)
Mega Man 5 (NES)
Mega Man 6 (NES)
Mega Man 7 (SNES)
Mega Man & Bass (SNES)
Mega Man Soccer (SNES)
Mega Man X (SNES)
Mega Man X2 (SNES)
Mega Man X3 (SNES)
Stunt Race FX (SNES)
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES)
Tetris (NES)
Uniracers (SNES)

Seriously. It's three companies. Nintendo, Square Enix and Capcom. You three better get crackalacking.

Games That Japan Got and Maybe Even Europe, But We're Not? What?!:

Fragile: Farewell Moon Ruins (Wii)
Mario & Luigi RPG 3!!! (DS)
Professor Layton 3 (DS)
Retro Game Challenge 2 (DS)
Riz-zoawd (DS)
Trace Memory 2 (Wii)

And, well, this too:

428: In A Blockaded Shibuya (Wii)

Visual novels aren't a terribly demanded gaming genre here. But I think it looks interesting. And apparently Famitsu gave it a perfect score. Gotta count for something, right?

Current Thoughts About What Would be Awesome:

Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People needs to get a Season 1 retail packaged media in-a-store-on-a-disc-that-you-can-buy-and-then-keep-on-a-shelf treatment. All episodic games should come complete to discs in the end!

Apollo Justice 2!

I think it's great that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is coming to North America. I think it's great that they might be adding new characters and an online mode. I think it's great they're fixing the bugs in the Japanese version. Do you know what I don't think is great? Tatsunoko. All they've done that I have any knowledge of at all is Speed Racer and Samurai Pizza Cats. And neither Speed nor Speedy are in this game! So Capcom. Dude. Put the Pizza Cats in the game. Go on. You know you want to.

Lost Winds 2. .. Bully 2. Klonoa 2. Ape Escape 4!

The Metroid Prime Trilogy. Awesome? Yes. Very awesome? Yes! Kickass? Hells yes! But confusing! I'm far from a technically minded person. I'm more of a social type who dabbles in art. So I don't understand how this is going to work. If it was a case that held three discs, hey, that makes sense. But for all three Prime titles to be on one disc? How did they do that? Especially since one of them is a full-fledged Wii game. What's the deal here, exactly?

Soul Bubbles for the DS. It's very hard to find. It always has been. So now Japan's getting it and they're giving it a graphical overhaul. How about this, Eidos. You bring us the enhanced Soul Bubbles. Call it, I don't know, Soul Bubbles DX, and here's the key: You make enough so that people can find it in stores. It'll sell, you watch.

I may be hanged for heresy, but can Valve put Portal out for the PS3 alone? I don't want Half Life or Team Fortress. Just Portal. Or make a Wii version. I'd be happy with either. I just don't want that other stuff.

Hotel Dusk needs a sequel. Like Hotel Dawn. Or Hotel Mid Afternoon. Just don't call it Hotel Twilight. Gosh that word is overused lately.

Team Ico needs to quit sitting on their hands. As does Nintendo's Zelda team. But I won't start that discussion again. Whoa nelly are people agitated over that.

Scribblenauts is going to kick everyone's ass. Even the Queen's.

You know how at Club Nintendo, you register your games and you get points, and then you can redeem your points for crap? What I would like to see is a better incentive. Okay, for example. You get 500 points? Great, you can get your choice of virtual console or WiiWare games burned onto a completely official Nintendo Wii optical disc for you to own forever and ever. Wouldn't that be nice? I would love to have a disc with World of Goo, Mega Man 9, Super Metroid, Lost Winds, all 9 installments of FFIV: The After Years, maybe some Super Mario Kart and Uniracers.. oh wait.

That is an awesome VC list! That would be a dream come true.
Scribblenauts keeps impressing me, how can they squeeze so much into a DS cartridge??

I'm with you on this. I's like to see U.N. Squadron (SNES), Killer Instinkt (SNES), MK2 (SNES), Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES), MK Trilogy (N64), Mutant League Foot Ball (Genisis), Castlevania Bloodlines (Genisis) and Sonic & Knuckles (Genisis) on the VC. It would soooooo rock.

Also, some good downloadables for the DSi would be really cool. Preferably, NES, SNES and Genisis oldies. Like the ones you and I both listed? (fingers crossed). I'm planning on trading in my DS toward a DSi and would love to have such content available from jump.
