I am going dark for the day of Tuesday as a sign of discontent

for the heads of this site it will mean nothing, but hopefully will show how many are displeased with way new layout was handled

the saddest thing is that from what I hear, the gliches that the editors have with the submissions has not been totally fixed, and many editors are retiring

until wednesday, this is the wise signing out

please take out the basically all white layout, it makes the posts blend with each other too much, and it tends to give a slight headache; do a new color pattern, if possible, one similar to the old color layout

some of the "new stuff" is silly, and it was done by taking some items that made TVcom unique

you should do a merger of the new features that people will tell you to keep, and of the old features that were taken out that people will tell you to bring back

for example, I like no more scroll bars when signatures exceed the 200 height, which is what made many old computers go on the fringe, and it will stop mods having to give TOS to people with a 202 height signature, and just simply look for people who have signatures that are like 400 height; and they should bring back the % of the levels, and allow ratings of 9.7 and such, and take away just increments of .5

I know that the profile on top probably was made to give more room length wise for the posts, but it forces people to see the profiles as being in the way and it will get annoying; so profiles should go on the side again

make the layout firefox friendly, lot of us(myself included) use firefox or similar

most important of all, whoever did it should apologize for rushing forward, and not making sure there were NOT MAJOR GLITCHES; is understandable that there would be minor glitches but we talking major stuff, like problems with the PM system, making editors not able to accept submissions and such

some people think that "the refuge" is very exclusive

it is not, we are a litle selective, we want to know if the members applying are good people, and not probable trolls, so basically if the people who are applying come from TVcom, we want them to be at least level 3 or 4, and preferably with some activity at the blogs and/or forums, so they will have a certain history to judge them by.

and the site is mostly avatar, but we got lot of other stuff to talk about in different sections like other shows, politics and so on

and we allow people to be a little "off-topic" in the threads, so basically there is a more sense of community since is more likely to talk to everyone about anything instead of feeling constricted to "just talk about the shows" or having to go to so many different blogs just to be able to discuss with someone about *for examples* Hurricane Gustav, the election, the world series and who will get to the playoffs, college footbal and so on

and we do have journals that is pretty much like blogs

and I encourage people who are still members of TVcom to visit and discuss things at the avatar forum and other forums

it is a little more "constricted in here" because sometimes what one considers a "non-issue" might be something that is considered "disruptive or malicious" to someone else, even when is other 2 parties

we can have situations like if "jack" writes "Aang appereaded in every episode" and "Jim" writes "are you being foolish? don't you remember Zuko alone?" than "jack" writes "oh, that is right, Duh, how did that slip my mind?" than "sam" reports "Jim" for calling "jack" foolish

so I will not force people to come to the forums of TVcom, they do what feels more comfortable to them

plus having the refuge means that people can come over and talk to the people who were banned, and also means that it makes it less likely that the banned people will feel forced to "ban dodge" (which according to TVcom is illegal) in order to talk to their friends

is ok(for those who want to do it) to go to both places, one should not feel it will be a traitor if they don't go to one of the sites

ythe refuge is http://z11.invisionfree.com/Avatar_mocVT_refuge make sure to PM me after you sign up, so i can check your profile and approve you

Newbies: take your time and learn the rules, and learn the etiquete of the sites, and don't rush in your desire to post something you found(it might have already being found, and is in an earlier thread)

don't believe the myth that if you start threads you will level up faster

you get percentage points by the posts, not by replies to threads you start, and a regular post and starting a new thread are considered the same

all members: too many unnecessary threads is considered disruptive by the mods, so think before starting a thread

some members have different types of computers and browsers systems, and if your signature has a scroll bar, it will be disruptive to some computers, that is why mods might delete your signatures if it has a scroll bar

this in not "specifically in the rules"(but probably mods will consider it as understood as something disruptive) but please avoid having signatures that have a LOT OF BYTES, as those will usually be disruptive to members in dial-up, and in some cases of humongous sigs, it can even disrupt a high speed LAN

please avoid(unless is in an approved game thread) doing 3 words or less posts, and avoid unless it is necessary doing pyramid posts, they will be considered disruptive by mods

don't do "inside before the lock" posts or "fail" posts even if you feel it is deserving, the mods will consider it disruptive

don't quote an "offensive and/or disruptive post", it will be considered as if you had post it

ignore trolls, and let mods take care of them, if you reply to them, high chances is that it was what they wanted; and I don't think you want to make trolls happy, just report them and mods will decide what actios are warranted

Veteran members: please be nice to the newbies, instead of calling them fools try to guide them to the proper steps

sometimes threads can be buried in page 5 or more, and are hard to find, or a question they asked might have been post number 2339, and the thread goes to a new page at post 2341, and no one saw the question, so they feel forced to ask again the question

is easy to "kick" noobs, but it is more impressive if you try to convert a noob into a newbie and eventually a good member

use "courtesy language" and not harsh language

you might get a good friend if you answer them with "I am glad for your enthusiams but there is already a thread for that in *url* " rather than "you dork, why you did this thread? we already got one about this"

sometimes the "intended message" might be different than the "perceived message"; so examine what you wrote before clicking "submit post"

use common sense and try to use Owlistic principles

always trying to be a friend

    wise men in Aang's life

It was a great ride, one that we had been waiting for so long. One that obviously disappointed many shippers, specially the Zutarians. Some of them accepted what Bryke envisioned, others could not accept it, and that started a bitter view of it right from the start, if they were spoiled or they were one of the people who read the "book". We got some who were disappointed of how Aang reached the Avatar State, or how he dealt with Ozai, as they take a superficial view of it, instead of trying to view the way Brike saw the dynamics and personalities of its main characters. We even got some minor surprises like the way Appa was sweet to Nyla (the mount of June) and some highly laughable moments, like Sokka thinking that Appa ate Momo. One can't say it was perfect, but I got to say that for me it was a 9.5 out of 10.

I want to deal with what are considered the major issues of those who were highly disappointed, and we start with the shipping. Get over it, it was what was in the DNA of the series from the start, as Bryke mentioned. For me, it was what was the most logical outcomes. Katara was strongly hinted from episode 101, but was completely solidified at the end of Crossroads and start of book 3(220 and 301), mixed with some hints of hopes for the Zutarians. Suki was the first crush of Sokka, if some don't remember that, she came before Yue. Yue was probably the first actual love of Sokka, but he began to be in love with Suki when they saw each other again. Many started seeing it as dead after she and her warriors faced Azula, Ty Lee and Mai; so much that Tokka became a strong force, but many saw that unless it was shown Suki was dead, Sokka and Suki still was the most logical choice for Sokka. Sukka was solidified after the Boiling Rock(314 and 315), only dying if either Sokka or Suki died. The same thing happened with Maizu at the Boiling Rock, after that episode the only way it would not happen is if Zuko or Mai died. Most of the ones who didn't see that were the People who supported Zutara, or ones who didn't like Mai's character. We never got solid evidence from Bryke, but it has been strongly hinted that Mai and Zuko were at least solid friends during their childhood, and hinted that Mai might have been hurt when Zuko was exiled. So even thought their hookup seemingly came out of nowhere(specially to ones who didn't see the magazine comic between 220 and 301) it was something logical.

the second issue is how Aang was reconnected to his Avatar state, as I mentioned before in another blog; Aang was able to let go of Katara in crossroads and reached the avatar state(but not mastered yet). When he was about to master it he got hit by Azula, and that was what "locked" the Avatar state. A strong hint of what was to happen came in 301, when Aang could not recall what happened until Katara went to heal his back injury, and suddenly he remembered the moment when he got hit by Azula, and remembered exactly what happened at the Ba Sing Se cave. At the finale, when the rock hit again his back's scar, that triggered again his connection, and he remembered all the knowledge of all past Avatars, he got reconnected to all of them, not just to the earlier 4 which was established in the "escape from the spirit world" and thus was able to go Avatar state, but at that moment it was all Avatars in the body of Aang, he had not mastered Avatar state yet. He even Spoke as the voice of many when he almost killed Ozai.

the third issue for many is that Aang didn't kill Ozai. Some because they wanted to actually see blood, because they don't try to see what should be the correct thing for each character. Killing Ozai would have been the easy thing to do, but it would not have been what would feel right to the persona of Aang. What happened was hinted in 3 places, the first one was the reluctance of Aang to kill Ozai, than when Yangchen spoke to Aang, she told him "duty to the world" came before duty to "one's own values" (which is different than worldly desires which many people confuse) so that no Avatar was able to be enlightened like so many airbenders in the past. The third hint came on the words by the turtle, who told Aang basically that in the earliest time it was understood that it was not about the elements, but about the energy that made bending possible. And the turtle might have helped make things easier for Aang to reach the Avatar state when it touched Aang at the head. healing his connection to the Avatars of the past, only needing to be triggered.

Why Bryke went this way with Aang? as I told earlier, Aang already "let go of Katara" in the way many didn't see it, as they thought letting go meant giving up Katara forever. at the moment "Avatar State" in the body of Aang was about to kill Ozai, Aang took control of himself, and chose to go with his values, and decided not to kill Ozai, Aang chose his "self values" over worldly duties. at that time he mastered the Avatar State as it was shown when Aang eyes lit up again than it went out again, but we saw he still had the Avatar state powers, that indicating Aang was in control, not the Avatar state of him. Also at that time, when he saw another solution, is when Aang was the first Avatar to be "enlightened" and he was able to "lifebend" and manipulate the energy, and thus able to take the bending powers of Ozai.

I think it also means that if Aang wants, he can also "give bending powers" to those who don't have them, but that is up to Bryke. So the fact that Aang didn't kill Ozai makes perfect sense for the persona of Aang, just like it makes sense for the persona of Katara that she didn't kill the killer of her Mother. We should not be blinded by our own "worldly desires" (Zutara, seeing blood and death and other stuff) and not seeing that Bryke did what was correct for each of the characters of the "Avatar the last airbender" world.

the only thing that was disappointing, but that was from the book interview, was that they chose not to establish that some airbenders were able to go in hiding and escaped the Sozin massacre of the airbenders

I would like to hear current thoughts of "those who have not seen any spoils nor read the book" and how was your thoughts BEFORE seeing any spoils or reading "the book"

and when I say thoughts I mean how you realistically saw the future path of ATLA, how you thought Bryke would write it; not what you were hoping for (before the book)

    before the book

I didn't have any shipping preferences, I saw what was more likely, but nothing more than that. Things changed shipping wise after seeing Boiling Rock(those in the USA who have not seen it at all, rent it at nearest rental place if the first time MUST BE IN TV or go see it online for those who don't care if first time is not on TV)

    now

those who have not seen Boiling Rock and don't want spoils of it, click the back button

    these were my thoughts(before book)

    -

    -

    -

    --

    -

    -

    -

after BR, I thought "Bryke might throw a huge curve at finale" (they might have, they might have not, won't confirm)but for me there was no way George would not happen, Tokka was a possibility, but only "years in the future" and if Suki dies.

as I said I didn't ship for anything, and before BR I was waiting for "how Bryke made Mai's reaction" before judging her, I didn't like people bashing her just because she seems unemotional or she didn't follow the norm of what people think is beautiful. After BR I actually liked the Maiko/Maizu pairing, and in essence I became a Maizu shipper, (some can guess that by my middle signature) and by default, I thought Kataang must happen(that doesn't mean I became a Kataanger) but Aang would not get married until years later

pretty much as George, Maizu has to happen, Zutara only if Aang dies or gives Kat up, and Mai dies.

I felt that the "avatar state" was a dead issue, "letting go is something to do at moment of going AS, not for the whole lifetime", I felt the need that the finale has to end years later, not right after final battle. and that Bryke would tell us that airbenders didn't die and were in hiding or they exiled themselves to an unknown location.

if finale ended soon after, some characters might end without any ships, if ended years later, most if not all characters would be shipped

I honestly felt that Ozai might not die, but was not sure if that would be the case(60-40) so if Ozai dies, or doesn't die would not be a surprise, I felt fine with both prossibilities, and I felt 100% sure neither Azula or Iroh would die, and Zuko definetively NOT

(I might have ended all correct in my thoughts, or some of them could have been wrong, or I could have been completely wrong)

    I repeat again

DO NOT PUT SPOILERS IN ANY OF YOUR REPLIES

just say "agree", or "not agree" to my blog, o "I will wait till it airs to read it"

    again

DO NOT PUT SPOILERS IN ANY REPLY

I read the book, I will not reveal much of anything. I will only say that they pretty much fill out nicely the scenes in the trailer that are not 312, 313, BR or 316, very little of the scenes in trailers are of 317

and I will make sure no false innuendos are going around

lot of the things seem logical, but others are somewhat "perplexing", not so much for the result, but the way it came about, and many things were left unresolved

I went there determined to get it, an how I was surprised that it was

    $9.99!!

as I was expecting 12 to 15 dollars

so go and get it right now!! before the price goes up if you lucky that your Best Buy has the same price

a little dissapointed that the commentaries ended up just being 311 and 312, not for boiling rock(wanted their views on Mai) but biggest dissapointment was the start of the DVD!!!

    an AD for Spongebob DVDs!!!!

but the episodes themselves are GGGRRREAAATTT!! as Tony the tiger would say

it is obvious that the strong kataang supporters want maiko/maizu to happen, and at the same time the Zutara supporters feel the need to "affirm to themselves and others" that 314/315 closed the ship, that both Zuko and Mai decided to end their relationship.

but now I can't see Maizu ending UNLESS Mai or Zuko dies, until Boiling Rock I thought it was possible that Mai would stop loving Zuko when she saw him becoming a traitor, and highly unlikely but still possible, that he never loved Zuko, and was with him only because Azula asked her to. These 2 possibilites are now killed. Mai loves Zuko and Zuko loves Mai, that fact can't be denied now. Zuko wanted to avoid Mai being branded a traitor, so that is why he didn't ask her to come with him to follow Aang at end of DOBS. She ended up doing something anyway that made her a traitor to Ozai.

now on to the Aang/Zuko parallels. I won't bore you with details of the ones constantly talked about from book 1 and 2 and first half of book 3, and how similar the storyboards of zuko and Aang are, the most important ones is that both care about the well being of people around them, and that both were seeking to regain their honor. and also minor ones like "zuko and blue spirit" with "Aang and headband Kuzon". there are even parallels of Zuko with Katara, and also with Sokka. Even some(but not as many) with Toph.

Lot of people(shippers and/or no shippers) argue about what exactly the Guru Pathik means when he said to Aang "letting go of Earthly Attachments", some think it has to be something permanent(usually Zutarians) and sometimes coming accross as saying that Aang can't love anyone at all romantically in his lifetime. while others say that it means forgetting all attachments at the moment he will seek to reach Avatar state, and concentrate 100% in his duties as Avatar. But at the times he is not having to use his Avatar state, he can love, be mad, be sad, be happy, be who he is, make a life of his choosing. There is a chance I might differ from what Bryke thinks, but I choose to take this view. "Duties to the world before personal feelings" basically.

in Boiling Rock we hear Zuko telling Mai that he has to save his nation, (and along with it restore the balance of the 4 nations) and that is why he left to help the Avatar. Basically this means that zuko put his duties to the 4 nations before his "earthly attachment" or in other word, his desire to stay with Mai. He could have been selfish to the world, and not help restore balance, and chose staying with Mai even if it meant being unhappy with how he related to the world and his father. he could have even not consider the "consequences to Mai" and asked her to follow him to seek the Avatar at the time of the eclipse. but he chose to leave(hopefully only temporarily in his mind) her behind, and to do what he saw it was the correct thing in order to save the firenation and the 4 nations, "Duty to his nation before duty to its current leader and father" who he doesn't believe in anymore

as we can see, now we have added in my opinion "forgetting their attachments in favor of their duties" as a parallel of Zuko and Aang

for me the only way Zutara can happen is if..

    1- Mai dies

2a- Katara chooses not to be with Aang

    or

2b- Katara chooses Aang but Aang dies at the finale

3- in a few years the friendship of Zuko and Katara grows into romance and they get married

at mundo avatar brasil they released the news that someone was able to rent DVD 3 and we got (at least for now) clips from them(even if low quality)

    huge new UPDATED data!!!!!!!!

1- as I suspected, sokka and zuko went secretly to BR by themselves(rest of gaang thinks they went fishing) and it was in the balloon, not appa as I thought initially

2- looks like the fall must be in WAT, since it looks like hakoda and suki and sokka and zuko were in the scene where kat sees her father(plus a giant guy) for the first time since DOBS

3- Mai "helped Zuko(and rest of group) escape", and dissapointed Azula, and than Ty lee sided with Mai. making now Maizu a strong ship, that I can only see it fall if Mai dies

4- Zuko says he could not drag Mai into "this" meaning being thought as a traitor

5- the giant guy is a firebender

6- I guess the hug of zuko and katara will be in 316, and Azula appears again with zeppelins attacking WAT, and now we know how she will save herself from the fall

7- I am now guessing Hakoda, Haru, Duke. Teo and the fire giant will escape in the zeppelin, and go a separate way from the rest of the gaang

OMG OMG OMG trailer and scenes from last half of book 3 of Avatar

ok, is out of my system, now to things I want to comment about

first of all; looks now like Tokka is dead, and George(Sokka plus Suki) is virtually confirmed

now looks like many people(specially Zutarians) think that Zutara is "confirmed" by 2 scenes at the trailer. some even go as far as saying that after aang kisses katara again, she looks like she is thinking "what the heck?" and than she rans off to hug Zuko(same scene according to them)

the scene with Aang looks like a grayish night and she wears dark clothes, and Aang seems to kiss her out of the blue again and she ends up looking more like she is trying to think what to say; the scene with Zuko the sky is reddish, and she is wearing a light blue outfit

going by the first half trailer (they jumbled the episodes)as far as we know, the zuko scene happened before the Aang one, (easily my theory of BR could be true which I will show after this comments) and she gave a "thankful hug" and not a "I love you hug"

also in one scene it looks like Hakoda is guiding Toph while they running, and in another scene Toph pops out right in between Suki and Sokka, also when Sokka lifts Zuko into the lift, he is in the lift with Suki and someone else? (might be Hakoda)

now about my theory of BR

Zuko while they are by the fire at night, tells the gaang about the "BR" where lot of "important prisoners go to"

    version 1

Sokka than thinks "Suki might be there", and he tries to sneak off with Appa at Dawn, but Zuko sees that, and tries to stop him, but Sokka convinces him to go with him, they get there, and the riot happens, some prisoners escape, including Hakoda and Suki, but Zuko gets trapped. Sokka flies with Appa to the WAT and brings the gaang to rescue Zuko

    version 2

Sokka figures out Suki might be there, and for sure Aang, Zuko and Sokka fly there(seems by the scenes that Toph didn't go there ) and katara "maybe". and Aang stays with appa as "the get away vehicle", and Zuko and sokka go in in the lift, somehow Zuko gets taken

    both versions go into this

the "scene with Zuko and Mai" happens and Zuko "mysteriously"(important in the future?) is able to escape from his room, and Zuko has to "jump" to reach the lift where Suki, sokka and ??? is at, and Sokka pulls him in. than "maybe" here while in the lift, Azula attacks and makes Zuko "fall"(this might be later on, not in BR) but Aaang and Appa fly to him, and what seems to be Katara gets him on time and gets him on top of Appa while someone else??? keeps falling

later on when they get back to WAT, and katara being happy both Suki and her dad were rescued, she hugs Zuko

lately I have learned not to take "shipping things at face value" at the sneak peeks, and always think "what can Bryke do to prolong the Zutara-kataang thing as long as possible?", never giving definitive answers about who katara will choose, nor a definitive answer about how things are between Mai and Zuko

    Description

In this adaptation of the four-part Season Three finale, Avatar fans will finally discover if Aang really can save the world from the evil Fire Lord! Told through first person narratives, readers will get the inside scoop from their favorite characters, and hear what's going on in their heads as they help Aang battle the ultimate enemy. Organzied into short chapters, this book is especially suited for middle-grade readers, but it can be enjoyed by Avatar fans of any age. Also included is a totally exclusive Q & A with Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, as well as some of their early sketches of the Avatar world and characters. This full-color interior will feature illustrations based on the episodes, and an original, pull-out poster!

man, we keep being bombarded lately with awesome news

ATLA winning the KCA, the flyer and the blog of Giancarlo himself (in blogs of Lisa3146, the NYCC coming this coming weekend, and now this description of the book

what breaking news will be next?

  • 8Apr 08

I will not include katara, as there has not been any OPEN showing of they flirting or going out, if anything(taking aside the COD episode scene before being rescued by Iroh and Aang) they always being antagonists in their scenes. and as far as it being shown, Ty Lee is just a friend, so I don't include her either.

it seems most people think that "besides Katara", the best choice for Zuko is Jin, but as I will show here, they going by appearances, and not looking at things deeply

    JIN

If anything, not much is shown about her, we only know that she lives in Ba Sing Se, and seems to be carefree and looks at things very "rose-colored"; it is highly probable that she has been most of her life inside Ba Sing Se, and as such, she doesn't know much about the realities outside of its walls. She was shown as shocked when Fire nation soldiers started entering the city at the start of book 3. Many people like her because she is pretty, soft and always smiling. besides Mai, she is the only one to have kissed Zuko.

    SONG

most people see it as the one shown "less in depth", yet to me it seems she is one who has more depth so far. She works as a healer alongside her mom, her father was taken by the fire nation, and she was scarred in her leg by those soldiers, she is shown that despite these facts, she is compassionate, understanding and generous. In other words, she knows the realities of the war, and as she told Zuko "I know you don't think there's any hope, but there is hope. The Avatar has returned", one point in her favor for those who look at "hidden clues", she appeared in the COTL episode. she is a character we know more about than Jin.

    MAI

Cold, reserved and calm. She is a long time friend of Ty Lee and Azula, she is "seemingly" bored with everything. Lot of people can't get past her "gothic look", and how very little we know about what her thoughts and feelings are. She is not the "typical beauty" but as shown in "the beach", lot of people admire her looks in the 4 nations world. Lot of people think that the romance between Zuko and Mai came suddenly out of the blue, but... let's look at some things, in "Zuko Alone" it was shown she had a crush on him, than many people don't know about the comic "coming home again". In it, she and Zuko are paired up, Azula seems to imply in it that there was something in the past between them, than we get this from Zuko "I have missed seeing you enjoy yourself", this definitively shows that there has been much more interaction between them than the scene at "Zuko alone" before he was exiled. And Mai looks to be more open, and enjoying things more when she has been with Zuko in the scenes at the book 3 season.

    Dear NICK

You have greatly disappointed the Avatar fandom with the way you have treated the Avatar show

After you aired Day of the Black Sun on late November, YOU have not aired any episodes from book 3 at the NICK channel at all until Late March (306, The Avatar and The Firelord) unlike YTV who have aired every episode at least twice

Even though episodes 312 and 313 have aired in YTV and in South America, you haven't aired them yet.

You have not at least! have the decency to tell us when the episodes will air; all of this despite the fact that DVD 3 of the Book of Fire with episodes 311 to 315 is scheduled to be released May 6th, We would not have cared if you had said they would be aired in late October, as long as we would know the dates.

There is also the possibility that the finale will be aired AFTER the release of the Simon Schuster(which is part of the CBS corporation, which has ties to VIACOM) book, "Sozin's comet: the final battle" on May 20th. that also would be highly disappointing from your part

    Sincerely yours

THE FANDOM OF Avatar: the last airbender(also known as Avatar: the legend of Aang)

    ---------------------------------------

in other notes, I wish Bryan and Mike would break from NICK, and start a new network that would treat that show and other similar to it with the respect it deserves

    I would call it Anima-America

someone is stressed out, as he has a big presentation that would take his company from being small, to becoming real big in the "whatever" industry

a meditation guy will tell him to relax, but he can't as "all his thoughts are centered in the presentation" thus he continues being stressed out, so the guru would tell him to "think of nothing", taking out everything from his mind, mainly the presentation, when he achieves that, he is able to relax

now substitute "presentation" with "worry about Katara, being in love with her AND if she might feel the same way", and "think of nothing" with "forgetting his earthly attachments"; and last but not least, "relax" with "going avatar state"

    the Guru said to avatar

"It deals with pure cosmic energy and is blocked by earthly attachment. Meditate on what attaches you to this world."

than aang thinks of he and katara getting closer, almost kissing

    than Guru says

"Now, let all of those attachments go. Let them flow down the river. Forgotten."

Aang: (startled) What? Why would I let go of Katara? I...I..I love her.

Guru Pathik: (reasonably) Learn to let her go, or you cannot let the pure cosmic energy flow in from the universe.

than this is what becomes interesting

Aang: I'm sorry, but I can't let go of Katara.

Guru Pathik: (calmly) Aang, to master the Avatar State, you must open all the chakras. Surrender yourself.

    Aang: (reluctantly) Okay, I'll try.

(Aang focuses his concentration. Inside his mind, we see mountains beneath a starry sky. The heavens begin to spin with great speed, the stars blurring streaks that disappear behind the mountains. An image of Katara appears, and drifts back toward the horizon to finally vanish with a twinkle of light. The heavens cease to whirl.)

Guru Pathik: (voice-over) Now, think of your attachments and let them go.

(An image of Katara appears, and drifts back toward the horizon to finally vanish with a twinkle of light. The sky ceases to spin.)

Guru Pathik: (voice-over) Let the pure cosmic energy flow.

Looking up into the stars, we see an aurora of light. Aang is seen floating in space above the planet, and the aurora solidifies into a radiant bridge beneath his feet. Turning from the world below, Aang sees a massive entity standing above snaking path. It is a spectral figure of Aang himself, the tattoos and eyes shining with the light of the avatar state. Aang sets off carefully towards it, mouth open in awe. As he nears the feet of the hovering apparition, his own tattoos begin to shine with light. The towering, spectral Aang descends, a sphere of light shimmering between its fingers. The Avatar is enclosed within this shell, but suddenly he is distracted by a cry of distress. Aang sees a vision of Katara chained to a wall, demanding to be freed. He leaps from the hands of the apparition, and the sphere of light vanishes. Behind him, the great entity fades from sight, as he rushes back down the path. It too begins to fade rapidly, until it drops him to plunge screaming toward the world. Aang suddenly starts from his meditative trance.

Aang: (rising in alarm) Katara is in danger! I have to go.

(Aang turns and races away, sliding down the roof the tower)

Guru Pathik: (calling after him) No Aang! By choosing attachment, you have locked the chakra! (Aang draws to a stop) If you leave now you won't be able to go into the Avatar State at all!
    ---------------------------

notice that he did choose to go to Katara, and that on the next episode he was able to almost reach the 7th chakra again even when katara was physically present, so it was not locked at that moment despite what the Guru said, what locked it was his near death thanks to Azula which I will show later

the mistake a lot of us make is to think that letting go is something permanent, actually is a momentary thing WHEN THE AVATAR wants to go avatar state, forget the earthly attachments while reaching for the cosmic energies, after his duties are done, than he can go back to his normal life.

    in COD

    ======================
Aang wearily picks himself up and looks around. Many Dai Li agents jump down from the cliffs above, forming long rows behind Azula and Zuko. Katara gains consciousness just as the Dai Li surround her. Katara bends the water from the channel and forms a ring of water around her. The water sprouts eight tentacles as she enters the octopus stance. Aang enters his fighting stance and prepares to face his many opponents. He then looks to Katara, who is desperately fighting off the Dai Li agents.)

    Aang: There's too many.

(Aang remembers what Guru Pathik told him at the Eastern Air Temple.)

Guru Pathik: (in Aang's memory) The only way, is to let her go.
    Aang: (sadly) I'm sorry Katara.

    ======================

notice that he left Katara BY HERSELF, NOT "I don't love you anymore"

    ------------------------

Aang turns around and earthbends several crystals out of the ground to form a tent over him. Aang sits down and begins meditating. We enter inside of Aang's mind, where he once again comes face to face with the avatar spirit residing inside him, high above the world and surrounded by the starry heavens. The avatar spirit surrounds Aang in a swirling orb between its hands, and Aang's arrow glows. Shift back to the physical world. Aang's arrow begins to glow here as well, illuminating the crystals that surround him. Zuko and the Dai Li are frightened but also enchanted by this light. Finally, Aang opens his eyes, which glow with great intensity. An incredible explosion of spiritual power destroys the crystals. The Dai Li agents shield themselves from the blast. Aang rises from the ground in a bright pillar of cosmic light. Katara looks up at Aang, hope returning to her. Aang levitates in the air, until suddenly, a bolt of lightning strikes his body. Cut to an extreme close up of Azula's eye where the image of Aang writhing in pain is reflected.

    -----------------------

we can see that he focused in the task at hand, and let Katara defend herself, and ALMOST reached the 7th chakra UNTIL Azula attacked him

    so basically

He let go his earthly attachments while deciding to go to meditate in order to reach avatar state

but he didn't give up Katara becoming his wife in the future (if she returned his feelings)
