My Friends

Titles are for Losers!!!

Mr. Fix It!

This emblem is awarded to the Hero of GameSpot for coming to the rescue of those unfortunate GameSpotters who did not recieve their E3 2009 emblems. Whether scanning through hundreds of missing emblem posts or dealing with wacky server logs... VinceL was always on point. You will always be our emblem Hero!

Thanks borninvincible!

Sorry about the huge gap in between emblem uploads. I got distracted by Comic-Con work but I just finished up a batch of E3 emblem assignments.

    I'm on it. Don't panic.

UPDATE (06-08-2009 09:35:20): Sorry sorry sorry - the emblems for day 3 are going out now. They didn't go out on Friday as I originally expected and I was out of the office. ETA 1 hour (it's 9:35am Pacific time now).

UPDATE 2 (06-08-2009 10:23:15): It looks like the server log files for that day are missing so I need to contact another team to get their tracking information. ETA unknown.

UPDATE 3 (06-08-2009 22:46:22): While I'm waiting for the data report, it's probably best to go ahead and inform me if you are missing the Day 3 emblem. But again, please be aware that I am filtering through 700-1000 messages so this may take a few days. I apologize for the major latency but I want to make things as right as possible for the fairness of everyone.

UPDATE 4 (06-09-2009 10:05:10): YES! I got the data and I'm assigning the Day 3 emblems out now.

UPDATE 5 (06-12-2009 10:13:49): For some who were wondering, there are no E3 emblems for having viewed all of this year's E3 content, or for the Ubisoft conference, or for the EA conference. The only ones (for this year, at least) are the Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 events.

UPDATE 6 (06-22-2009): I will still be assigning emblems, but not as often - probably one batch per week or two weeks.

    Please be patient!

EVEN IF YOU HAVE BEEN PASSED OVER for ANY previous emblem, you can still reply back to this thread and let me know. Please be honest and only ask for a missing emblem if you really did view the coverage _while it was live_. Watching the replay version does not count.

If have already updated your emblems but you are still missing another one, please do let me know which one(s).

Please only post your requests once - I am updating your profiles one at a time and if you keep adding the same request to the list it only slows me down. I will be spending part of late tomorrow morning and next Monday to work on this.

    Thanks!

The previous one was too depressing. Enjoy this stalwart hamster struggling against incredible odds to eat a piece of popcorn.

This is a plea to all the hackers and spammers that are reacting to the current situation: I'm begging you to PLEASE redirect your energies in the proper manner. If you're hacking the polls or otherwise defacing GameFAQs, GameSpot, etc., all you're doing is bringing grief to a software engineer who otherwise is not involved in what's making you angry. If you're spamming the forums, you're bringing grief to a community staff member who has no control over the executive policies. If you're flooding the customer service lines, you're just making a customer service representative work late nights. For all you know, these people may actually agree with your sentiments.

Again, I understand everyone's rampaging emotions right now, but please know there are employees here who are not only mourning the current situation, but then are also the ones cleaning up the messes, and none of this actually accomplishes whatever your intended purpose is. And please have a measure of faith in those of us who work here to stand up for what is right, and to take the steps necessary to continue (or perhaps restore) a legacy of integrity.

I can't recommend or condone another specific action to take in terms of going through the proper channels, whatever they may be, but I'm pleading with you to not punish the employees here who are apart from whatever crimes you may perceive, yet receiving the brutality of an empassioned mob.

I don't actually have any information about what's going on other than what other websites have been posting, but I DO know that I'd like to go hide somewhere for the next 2-3 months.

After some consideration, I regret to inform that I will be unable to reply back, answer, or act on past and present incoming private messages. There's just too many, and too little time to take care of them, and frankly it's no longer part of my current job expectations.

If you're having any problems with the site, be it with emblems, unions, etc., go to the Knowledge Base (http://www.gamespot.com/misc/helpcenter.html), the Tech Support forums, or contact Customer Service here: http://gamespot.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/gamespot.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php. We have staff that will be able to help you in each of those areas.

    (1) The power went out in San Francisco yesterday afternoon, and our sites were definitely affected by it. We're still recovering but we're definitely operational.

    (2) Yes, I know I'm a couple months behind in answering PMs. I have over 100 of them so I plan on spending Friday morning going through them one by one and replying back. Sorry about the massive delay!

Found this clip that tells a story with the same inspriration as the famed "Matrix Ping Pong" clip.

Once again, I'm in another spot where it will take some time to go through all the PMs in my inbox so please expect some delay before I reply back.

In the meantime, enjoy my new blog banner of a cat being used as a laser gun.

A short film with Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, and Pearl. Warning: Some offensive toddler language.

[Edited to be a link because of the annoying autoplay and sizing issues]

After a two-day battle, the bug that prevented folks from posting on TV.com (because of Javascript errors) should be gone for good.

My friend Jason and I went hiking in Canyon, through a trail just outside Moraga.

On the return trip, in some nearby brush I heard some soft mewing. Given the option to investigate, I sided with curiousity and started looking around. The source was a surprisingly friendly feral cat who decided to follow us around.

When we came back to the parking lot, unfortunately between us and the car was a dog park, and with no delay did the cat get spooked, seeking refuge up a tree. With the sun setting, we spent a solid half hour or so trying to get him down.

With the help of some other passersby, and time running out, we resorted to the following measures to get him down. Jason climbed the tree, but was unable to coax the cat down to a safer branch, or come back down with the cat. He was handed a couple of jackets, which he used to swaddle the cat. Then he said, "Ready?" I said "No." Then I decided I would never be ready for what I had to do, so when he asked me again I said "Yes." He then let go of the cat and I caught the package in a makeshift fireman's rescue trampoline (my jacket). One of his claws came free and scratched my face, unfortunately. Surprisingly, the cat did not really freak out or make any loud noises. I just cradled him for a while and then set him down.

Then I immediately went into my backpack to get some disinfectant wipes. The whole experience was utterly exhilarating; perhaps it was the adrenaline that kept me from noticing any of the pain. Maybe it was realizing the humor of standing in line at Safeway with cat food and cat litter holding a blood-soaked wipe against claw marks on my face. Or maybe it's that I now have this badass scar on my face:

Anyway, having a cat fall on your face is a life-changing experience. I highly recommend it. The cat is staying at Jason's house now, and I call him Scratchy.

Long have I been avoiding the public light, choosing not to show my face on any of the sites for fear of getting my face photoshopped into gruesome internet fare and released into the wild. But the opportunity arose to join a TV.com online webcast discussion about the 24 Season 6 premiere, I knew the risk was worth taking.

So tune in at 4pm Pacific time on Tuesday, January 16th and join me and other 24 fans as we share about the exciting first four hours of Jack Bauer's longest day ever (again). If you miss it, I'm sure it will be available on-demand afterwards.
