So "the other site" seems like its going to be a great place to visit for game information and reviews, with its wiki-style presentation being the main focus. However the community aspect, at least so far, seems to be a little "meh". Its easy tracking people down and adding them to your friends list, and that goofy wall feature makes messaging a lot quicker. However, the forums are a different story. They are a complete mess right now, lacking any form of organization with loose topics scattered everywhere. Many of them are completely unrelated to absolutely anything at all, and just seem like random posts for people to get their counts up.
Now I realize the site is only a day old and theres a lot of room for improvement, but so far I'm only going to use it as a great source of information on games and check it for reviews. I'll blog and mess around with all of your walls, but other than that I'm still going to stick with Gamespot for my main source of news, reviews, and community. It simply cannot be beat here (at least for now).
Went and made a GiantBomb profile. No it doesn't mean I'm going to leave this site, the community here is just too awesome to leave. If you want to add me as a friend on GiantBomb my profile name is the same as on here.
I realize its not very creative, but I chose the same name on purpose, since it would be easier to find me on there if you already know me on here.
Well E3 is now over as I'm sure you know. This years show was, for the most part, pretty underwhelming. Only a few major announcements, mostly from Microsoft no less (if you even want to count those as major). The other dissapointment was the severe lack of game reveals, with God of War 3, Animal Crossing, and Pikmin 3 being the standouts for me. The major highlight of the show had to be Square Enix revealing FFXIII for the 360, just because Sony took some "massive damage" on that one.
Microsoft mostly showed off a boatload of casual games that nobody that owns a 360 would want, and their Fall Dashboard update that looks like Vista with taller Mii's. Sony had a decent press conference, and they didn't say anything that turned out to be a flop like most of Microsoft's announcements. That being said, they didn't really say much or reveal anything that was totally unexpected. Oh yeah, and why dwell that long on the Playstation 2? I know its one of the best selling consoles in history and was a major step forward, but shouldn't they be more concerned about the Playstation 3 now? And Nintendo? Don't even get me started...
Luckily Gamespot's coverage made this years show enjoyable, especially on Day 2. I don't think I've enjoyed sitting at my computer for 10 hours that much ever, thanks to some awesome stage demos and interviews. Also, the insanity that is Chat Room 0 kept things fresh and new. It was a blast chatting with all of you, and I think I speak for everyone when I say a 24/7 chat room is in order.
And now we must wonder; will there even be an E3 next year? With some companies not attending this year (such as the behemoth that is now Activision Blizzard) and maybe even more pulling out of future shows after this years dismal performance, the future of E3 hangs in limbo. Even if this years E3 turns out to be the last, I think we can safely say that it ended on a somewhat good note.
Heres a breakdown of my thought process as I watched the event.
-Fallout 3 looks like Oblivion with guns...works for me!
-RE5 has co-op? SICK.
-Hmm Molyneux didn't really say anything new. Whatever Fable II is still going to be awesome.
-Wow, Gears 2 has some amazing lighting. Also, I totally want to ghost ride the Brumak.
-Stats and figures? Expected. Hopefully after the boring statistics we get some other huge announcement....
-OMG What did they do to the dashboard! This is absolutely horrible!
-Seriously, are those friggin' Miis? WOW this is baaaad.
-Oh cool, new Portal game. SWEET.
-Whats with all this casual stuff? I'm In The Movies? WHAT!!!!
-Wow, what a Singstar ripoff. Who the heck is Duffy?
-Rock Band 2 has AC/DC. 'Nuff said.
-Square Enix at the press conference? Ok...
-Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean, and The Last Remnant look great. Oh, he's done speaking. Sad face....
-Well the conference is all done...wait what is this?
-FINAL FANTASY XIII!!!! ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG YEEEESSSS!!!!!
All in all, a mostly dissapointing event. But FFXIII? Oh hell yes.
