New Super Mario Bros. Wii Review and a New [Used] Console!

I just posted by New Super Mario Bros. Wii review, I'm sure a few of you are interested in the game so I hope it's helpful!

Today, being the day after Thanksgiving, is also known as Black Friday, a day that pretty much every store uses to offer ridiculous sale prices on tons of items. I went to GameStop this afternoon and picked up (drumroll please) a PlayStation 2! Normally these things cost $70 used, but they're on sale this weekend for just $50! I've been thinking about getting one for a while but waiting for the right moment, and GameStop definitely gave that to me today. I also took advantage of their buy 2 get one free deal on used stuff to get a 8 MB memory card, Jack & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, and Ratchet & Clank! All at considerably low prices. I was going to get Kingdom Hearts because, you know, I wanted Kingdom Hearts, but unfortunately the only copy they had among their gazillion used PS2 games didn't have the box art OR manual. So I decided to get those other two games instead, I'll ask for Kingdom Hearts for Christmas or my birthday.

When I got home, you know, first thing's first, gotta check out the used console. It wasn't in the greatest of cosmetic conditions, after a minute of cleaning it was ok, although it still has some small light blue dots on it. Oh well. Actually I may still return it because the console heats up pretty quick, within 20 minutes of gameplay it was uncomfortably hot, although I don't know if that's a common problem in PS2s. Do any of your PS2 (slim) consoles get hot quickly? If they don't then I'm definitely taking this back to exchange for a new one. I did notice that the console lacks a cooling fan, though, a seemingly unintelligent decision by whoever designed the console. I did get a bonus from whoever sold the system to GameStop, though, and that was a free game! Sitting in the PS2 console was an NFL Street game disc. Nice.

Well I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, and maybe got some good deals on some games and stuff. Now that we're past Thanksgiving it's time to start listening to Christmas music, watch Christmas movies, and start getting into the season! Woohoo! See you later!

    Upcoming Reviews and a Surprise...

I finally beat Zelda: Phantom Hourglass a few minutes ago! Woohoo! I've owned the game for over two years now, it's about time I finally wrapped up that last part. I liked the ending, and the final battles were pretty fun. Definitely a great game, if you have a DS you should definitelyget it if you don't have it! Spirit Tracks in less than two weeks! Yes!

Also, if you remember my thoughts on Pokemon Rumble based on the demo, let's just say my brother found the game amusing enough to buy . So the door has been opened and I now get to write a review for it (after I've given it a little more play time, of course) in all fairness. Does anyone else sense TissueShoe's My Pokemon Ranch Review 2: The Revenge on the horizon? The game could be good, the only issue is that the gameplay is so shallow. I mean, running around as a poorly animated Pokemon pressing A and B rapidly just isn't my definition of a great game by today's standards. And that's really all you do. They do integrate some of the Pokemon battle elements, such as stat increases, status effects, and special moves (like Light Screen, Protect, etc.) nicely though. Still, I don't like the fact that I can't tell the difference between a Ponyta and a Rapidash! I mean, every single Pokemon is the same size! I'll save the rest of my thoughts for my review, coming soon to a TissueShoe's GameSpot profile near you! I haven't actually written up a review for a while, excluding the Doc Louis's Punch-Out one, have I? Well here's the list of games I intend to review soon-ish:

    • Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
    • New Super Mario Bros. Wii
    • Pokemon Rumble
    • Rock Band 2 (yes, the day is coming that I will FINALLY review this game)
    • Guitar Hero: Van Halen (Post date is December 22, mark your calendars! This review is actually done right now, but I can't officially post a review until it's out. Let me know if for some reason you're dying to read it sooner and I'll post it in a blog beforehand.)

Yep, that's it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, remember to reflect on all the blessings in your life and have a grateful heart!

    I Think I Can I Think I Can...

So I've been playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the past couple days and I have now arrived at World 8. In all honesty the game is indeed challenging, but not THAT hard. I mean, I haven't been offered a super guide once yet (they're offered when you've died a certain number of times trying to do a level) and I haven't gotten stuck in one place for long. It was all in my head, just because GameSpot said it was really hard. I mean yeah there are a few evil parts that deliberately try to make you angry but other than that the game isn't so bad. I'm still really enjoying it, I'd love to own it but I'm definitely going to beat it before I have to return it, so it's definitely not worth $50 for me. Great game though, hopefully I'll have a review up for it soon, along with a review for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Guitar Hero: Van Halen.

In other gaming news, I decided that since Spirit Tracks is a mere two weeks away (and my birthday only a few days further ) I should take another stab at Phantom Hourglass. To this day I haven't beaten it, and I even got it right when it came out a couple years ago! I beat that part of the Temple of the Ocean King I was stuck on after some unnecessary confusion and redoing things that I didn't need to redo . I am now on what i believe is the last temple before I fight Bellum, I should have the game beaten in the next several days seeing as I'm on break, woohoo! Finally, the end of the road. And then Spirit Tracks! I'm pretty excited to see how it turns out.

And for anyone who wants $3 in free store credit on Amazon, redeem the code MP34FREE as a gift card/promotion code and you have $3 to spend on MP3's! I used the credit to get Flyleaf's new album, Memento Mori, at discount price. It's a good album, I mean all the songs are good, but the only real standouts are Beautiful Bride and Again. Definitely check out those two songs. Also, an amazing Christmas song called I Celebrate the Day (the one I talked about in my Christmas blog last year) can be downloaded for free from good ol' Amazon as well. Definitely get that song! Hey what do you know, two blogs within a few days of each other! It's been a while since that happened. Well, hope you're all having a great week!

The most epic Nerf Gun Goofy shooting video ever made. It may be the ONLY Nerf Gun Goofy shooting video out there, but the epic Street Fighter lines (from the cheesy cartoon) put it over the edge. Made by D_West, fat_otter, and TissueShoe. Enjoy!
