    Darkfall Delay Reactions...

With Tasos' updated release schedule post earlier today, the forums exploded with mostly negative threads and posts. Trolls, new and old, were all rearing to go off and make a ruccuss, and I am really tired of it.

Delays happen. Period. In this industry, even large giant companies with loads of money miss their launches constantly, and yet when it happens to a very small, indie company everyone immediately starts crying and whining, calling it vaporware and a scam? Sure, maybe Tasos' wording hasn't always been the best, but honestly, i think that his announcements have always been smart, professional, and honest. Things happen. Get used to it.

When DFO was concepted it was a small project, a niche game, and dreaming of maybe 10,000 players. Now, all 'excuses' a side, this small team of 30 guys is creating an amazing world, an entire game engine, and everything that they need independently. I don't know how many of us can say that they have participated in a project of this magnitude, but I'll tell you that its not easy, and it takes time, passion, and sadly, money. Avent has done absolutely phenominal things, and they could not and can not risk losing creative interest, which most publishers want stake in when they invest in a project. Aventurine has always stuck by their project, and always will. Tons of games in the past have suffered terrible changes at the hands of bad publishers changing things to get more users, look at SWG, EQ, DnL, AoC, AO, and many more.

Now, i'm not saying that I'm not dissapointed by the delay, because I am, but I understand. In just a couple of weeks, once things start falling in place, and once Avent has a bit more money to utilize, they will put more and more infrastructure in place to meet demand, and all will be fine. Their product will speak for itself, hell it already shines, and in the end they won't have needed the big publishers, the big money, or the big industry players. This is a true indie project through and through, and in my opinion these guys are absolutely amazing. For a team of their size to create such a huge game and such a compelling one is wonderous. Of course I'm enthusiastic. Of course I'm hopefully. I know that a lot of games have been flops in the past. I know that a lot of game dev teams have been bad, untalented, malicious, etc. But I severally hope that DF is not going to be plagued by any of this. I have faith in this team and these people, and if that faith is betrayed I will be suprised. Hell yea i'll preorder, my 5-40 or so dollars will help them get servers up, infrastructure in place, and a NA launch sooner. I'm hopeful in saying that a NA launch will happen only a few months after the EU one, but until then I don't really think that I'll mind playing EU. Sure, latency will be up a bit, but this world is so enthralling, I simply can not wait. Here's to Aventurine and to Darkfall Online! Now, lets all be patient and wait another short month, and we shall hopefully be online in Agon for the first time, with only better and better things to come!

    Darkfall...College...ETC!

Well, another week or so goes by, and nothing much is going on. I am so far behind on 360 games its absolutely insane. I haven't played Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Left For Dead, Fallout 3, Too Human, GTA IV, hell I haven't even played through Mass Effect Yet! With college here at the University of Missouri being so challenging, its hard to find time for games.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love videogames, and gaming. But, for me at least, my schooling is very important to me and to my future. I am double majoring in Photojournalism and Psychology, Mizzou being the BEST JOURNALISM SCHOOL IN THE WORLD! w00t! And after I graduate in about 4 more years, I am moving from the US to New Zealand! I ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT WAIT! I have been doing research on NZ for some time now, and my friends and family and I are all going to move there together and live amazingly!

Anywho, I really need to get some new games. And furthermore, why is there no Darkfall coverage on Gamespot yet? For those of you that might not really know what Darkfall is, its an MMORPG that is in developement by Aventurine, a Greek studio based out of Athens. Its full PvP, Full Loot, Skill Based, no levels, and has an actual aim and hit combat system! IE to hit with anything, sword swing, arrow, magic blast, you have to AIM it, in either 3rd or 1st person. 3rd person is the view used for melee, and 1st is used when running around, shooting arrows, or using magic.

I am super excited for DF, and I think a lot of other GS members would really appreciate it. Aventurine has been calling DF a "sandbox" mmo, and is breaking away from the norm now adays, the WoW Clones, button mashing on bars to land animated combos. :/ Anyway, DF is going to be full pvp and have a deep combat system like I said, and you don't choose a class at start, and in fact the only classes are prestige classes that are had later in the game. DF is going to be like a modern UO or Asherons Call, which has me very, very excited. The EU launch date has been announced for January 22, 2009, so in about a month. The NA launch is coming soon after, not announced yet, however we can play on their EU servers until the NA ones launch. I get about a 140 ping to the EU servers, so it won't be too bad

Aventurine recently opened up the doors for more previews, interviews, etc. and has recently done articles with The Noob comic (thenoobcomic.com), MMORPG.com, MMORPGItalia, and more. I think that GS should really think about contacting Aventurine for an interview or something. GS's Darkfall page is pretty outdated, which is understandable since Aventurine plays their cards so close to the table. But, now that launch is so close, we need information! VIVA LA AVENTURINE AND GS!

Anyway, thats all for now I suppose. Time to go study for my Psychology Final. Wish me luck

    Hiya! Back at GS...

    Hello everyone!
I have had an account at gamespot in the past, and I finally made a new one because I absolutely could not stand my old account name, and I could not find any option to change it, still after these long years. xboxpimp18 was my old account name, lame... =D

I am a freshman in college, double majoring in photo-journalism and psychology. Fun stuff, I love school. I go to the University of Missouri- Columbia, aka Mizzou. Big 12 school, I love it!

Right now I am mainly playing Halo 3, with a bit of Spore, some wii games like WiiSports or Mario Party, and thats about it. I need to get some more 360 games, I would like Gears 2, CoD: World at War, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, ugh I have some catching up to do on the 360!

Right now I have a Macbook for school, and I absolutely love it! I am a huge mac fan, my macbook just makes everything easier, is more intuitive, and is actually a lot of fun. I am A+ Computer Certified and have no shortage of PC knowledge, but I am really tired of Windows, Microsoft, Vista, and stupid problems that follow. OS X Leopard is amazing, I am in love! And in order to play new PC games, I am going to run VMWare Fusion 2, which i hear is an amazing duel operating system program, on my macbook, and in the near future on my Mac Pro Desktop! =D w00t!

Darkfall looks freakin' amazing! If no one here at Gamespot has heard of it, it is an amazing MMO in development by Aventurine, a Greek company! They pwn, and are doing a great job on this amazing looking game! Scoot on over to darkfallonline.com and go to the forums to find the newest updates and videos! The 17 min demo that Aventurine posted is absolutely stunning, check it!
