Video Games: The Addiction and You.
This is my first blog so be gentle. I also hope to make them longer eventually.
Ok I am sure that alot of people can relate to this thing called addiction. It is in every aspect of our lives and can take many forms. But unfortunately it can lead to you ruining your life.
I have been gaming since I was 5 years old. And I remember the first console I got was the NES and I got it when the SNES was just about to be released. But of course I didn't care. I was just glad to play Super Mario Brothers. Also it was just a toy but I had no idea how much time I would spend over the next 10 to 15 years on it. Nor how much it would change my life.
Now hear is where it gets a little nasty. I was an average student, but I didn't care one bit about school or education. My grade slipped and near the end of my school year I was barely passing. On top of that my first job, at a Grocery Store, all my money was spent on mostly two thing. Gas and video games. The trend continued even out of High School. I chickened out of going to the Military(Main reason video games.)and instead got assembly line job. I was eventually buying games even when I had more then 20 games unbeaten on my shelf and buying game I knew I had no intention of beating.
Well about 1 year ago I got a wake-up call. In the form of a lay-off. And my life changed. It was like God was trying to get my attention. I stopped buying games (I had unemployment) and I decided to do something with my life (Which I had been wasting up until then)and I did the thing I chickened out to do. And now even though the addiction likes to rear it head every now and again. I am able to weather it. I still enjoy playing games, but I actually have fun now and beat them. And my life is slowly but steadily improving.
So I said all that to say this. Don't become a slave to any form of entertainment. Because it may feel good for awhile but eventually it will lead you down a path you don't want to go down. So in closing. Enjoy gaming and have fun just don't overdo it.
