Quick show of hands, how many of you who fancy yourselves writers were aware of "GameSpotting"?
If you're not sure what that is, it's where we've featured user blogs from the site as a GameSpot feature. It finds a home on the front page and everything.
Here's what's been featured so far:

Masters of Reality: By Pierst178
Why Tomb Raider Failed as a Reboot: By biggest_looser
If the rumors are true: 5 reasons the next Xbox will fail: By -Saigo-
BioShock Infinite: Baptism of the Human Heart: By adusenbery
and  The Zone of Influence: How Paratext can change our experiences with games: By tom_cat_01

These are features that are picked no by community members, but by GameSpot staff, myself, and Carolyn Petit.

If you're interested in being featured, you can do so by doing several things:
PM Me with a link to your blog.
Post a link to your blog in the Writers Round Table for a peer review.
Or if you're super shy, email community@gamespot.com

Looks good. It's incredibly rewarding to see your blog featured on the front site of a website like GS.

I don't write often enough to bother usually, but every so often ill put up an editorial.

I find a lot of the topics to be good, I'm just not that great at writing in my opinion.

I have a hard time with topics, even with the provided ones - little strikes my fancy...I'm doing too much editing/re-writing...

Words cannot describe how crazy it is to see something you wrote featured like that! =D

I was really psyched when my article was featured as part of 'GameSpotting'. I think it's a really valuable initiative; one that encourages thoughtful and critical "readings" of games, and which simultaneously draws attention to aspects of gaming which, while current and relevant, may not necessarily fall under the banner of "News".

I find blogging to be an extremely satisfying activity (especially when people start to read and to comment on your articles - debate is always interesting), and I encourage everyone to give it a try!

My 7th year on GameSpot is coming up soon. I can't remember where to give entries of anniversary blogs.

I just posted my first blog, but couldn't figure out how to include images in my post. Is it possible to include images in a Gamespot user blog?

@jayfin9 when you're in the text editor writing the blog, there should be a button to the left of the smiley (bottom bar of buttons, "insert/edit picture"), and you click on that and a window will pop up where you enter in the link to your picture. you will need to host your picture online on a site like photobucket or something similar and get the link from that.

I was aware of it(since I saw the Tomb Raider/Bioshock ones) but not how blogs were chosen/found to be featured so this is useful to know if I decide to put effort into an interesting blog of my own. XD

Why haven't there been any for May? I see the last one was on the 28th.

@Eikichi-Onizuka Lack of apparent content. I personally pour through nearly a thousand blogs on the site and sometimes don't surface with anything that passes the other staffs standards for an editorial.

@Synthia @Eikichi-Onizuka  I find that incredibly funny. I feel the same way about the majority of the content that does get user featured.

Could you elaborate on what the standards are? I know I've asked you this before, but I see many blogs that barely state an opinion, much less a coherent one.

@experience_fade It's a bit like Minecraft. I can spend hours digging around in an area trying to find diamonds and come up with maybe one if I'm lucky. I'm not saying that they are not out there. It's just not as easy to find as one might hope.

@experience_fade As far as I can tell (since again, I'm by no means the final word on what gets picked) In addition to being a sufficient length and meeting journalistic integrity as far as grammar and punctuation is concerned. The topics featured need to be either topical or timely enough to justify being featured.

I've been trying to get featured for forever. No love!

@Tazzman1000 if you're interested in obtaining critique of your writing and constructive criticism on how to improve, you can always run your work by the Justicars at the Writers Round Table (linked in Synthia's blog)!

I got an unofficial best officer back in 2006 for writing in the Canadian football union - and yes there really  was such a thing and it is DOA the union not the Canadian Football League it does exist.

but I'm not a writer I just pretended to be one because there was so little interest in the union and  league ......I think we were down to 6 active members at that time ...out of high of 35 no more than half of which were ever from Canada.

I have checked out the Gamespotter thing but have never really been in contention myself

... you guys should ask Jeff Gerstmann or Ryan Davis (or any of the other GS 'Elders') about the origins of the real "Gamespotting". History needs to be preserved. :)
