Super Mario Fan's Blog

Uh, this is a blog. What else is there to say?

  • 11Oct 09

There are currently two games that have my interest the most.

A Boy and His Blob: I just can't get over how darn cute this game looks! The whole "hugging the blob" really pulls my heart strings! The game is single-player only, and has 80 levels to explore. You control a nameless boy and you advance by feeding a white blob jellybeans. The jellybeans transform the blob into various objects such as a trampoline that allow you to naviage the levels. It's a cross between a platformer game and apuzzle game.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: I'm an obsessive Mario fanboy, what were you expecting? This is an ehanced sequel of the DS game New Super Mario Bros. It has more levels, more power-ups, and the ability for up to four players to play at once; a first for a Mario platformer. It's also the first sidescrolling Mario platformer to appear on a console since the SNES. I currently have this on my wishlist for a relative to give me as a Christmas present.

I'm nearing the end of Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, and should have a review up soon.

I got to use the Wii Motion Plus controls for Wii Sports Resort, and I gotta say I'm liking it. It really shows how bad I am at bowling (I can only bowl like 150 points tops as opposed to 250 points in the first Wii Sports). Yes, it does take some adjusting with, but I'll get used to it. I am about to finish Zelda: Majora's Mask for the VC and should have a review up soon. I'll be starting class in a couple of weeks, so I'll need to play as much as I can while I wait.

I'm finally getting my hands on this game! I never actually played any of the original games, but I have seen numerous parodies on the franchise, including the infamousracial parody on YTMND called "N*gg* stole my bike". I hear that the game will be quite challenging, but I hope it is not frusterating. Next Level Games is known for their challenge. I could never finish the Striker Cup on Mario Strikers Charged to unlock Petey. I should have the game soon with a review coming shortly afterward.

I can finally play World of Goo now. Yay! I had trouble moving my pointer, and World of Goo's gameplay involves heavy use of the pointer. The new product is 3rd party, but works much better than the old sensor bar. The only downside is that the new pointer runs by batteries (I don't know for how long, hopefully it won't drain the batteries too quickly), but it is also wireless.

It looks like I've been going through a string of downloadable games as of late! I'm currently in the middle of Donkey Kong Country 3 and I plan on downloading World of Goo once I'm finished. People have been knocking all over me about World of Goo, even Nintendo themselves! (I got a letter sent to me on my Wii telling me to try the game out)

I'm starting classes on Monday, but I should still find plenty of time to play these games.

I recently downloaded DKC 2, but I will not start it until I finish De Blob. This was one of my friend's first games for his Super Nintendo, and he said he could never beat it. Is it really that hard? The first game was difficult, but it wasn't impossible. Is the second game in the series harder than the first? I guess I'll find out soon.

As for De Blob, there are many things I like about it, but there are a few things about it that frusterate me. I'll go more in depth when I write my review.

Due to college, the amount of time I've spent playing games has deminished somewhat over the last few months, but I will get active again come Thanksgiving and Christmas break! I've currently got two games on my radar: De Blob and Sonic Unleashed. Yes, I'm a bit of a platformer fanatic and I absolutely adore the Mario and Kirby series of games. Since my brother now has an Xbox 360, I may even eventually get Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts sometime down the road.

Although I have Mario on my name tag, I'm as big of a Kirby fan as I am a Mario one!

Being a gamer who started with the N64, I never got a chance to play the SNES original. I doubt Nintendo would release the original on VC, so I decided to pick up the enhanced remake for the DS. I've played through the Spring Breeze, Gormet Race, and Dyna Blade games, and while it's been an easy ride so far, I'm sure the difficulty will ramp up in the later games. I'll have my full review when I finish all the games.

I'm now in the volcano near Land's End. I like what I've played so far, although I think a lot of the hype that goes into this game is from pure nostalgia (I like the Paper Mario series better). Nontheless, this is still a solid title that is well worth the 800 Wii Points for its replay value alone. I should have a full review posted in just a few days.

Took them long enough. I have heard reports of people getting the game last week before it was supposed to release, and my Gamestop (as well as other retailers in my area) didn't get the game until today. Can you believe that? Anyways I'm enjoying what I've played so far. The gameplay is much more forgiving this time around. When you fail to hit a home run with a charged shot, it usually will be a powerful low ball instead of a fly ball. The characers themselves are also more balanced. Yoshi is no longer overpowered and Pianta is now very useful at bat. I should post a full review in a few days.

My brother's Call of Duty 4 disk cannot be read by his 360. We checked the disk and found no scratches, so chances are is that it is his machine that is screwing up. Talk about faulty hardware! We're not 100 percent sure if it is the hardware, so we'll use another game from a friend just to make sure. Thank goodness he got that $40 warrenty!

Update: It turns out it was indeed the disk and not the system. There was a small crack in the inner clear plastic part of the disk. He'll have to get a new game now. Sucks for him.

I was happy enough with my Wii, but I guess my little brother wasn't. After playing Call of Duty 4 at a friend's house, he asked me to chip in $15 of my money so he could buy a $300 20 GB system. He hasn't been spending any of his money for a long time now, so it looks like all of his monthly allowences added up big. I'm not really a big fan of first person shooters, so I'm not going to be using it much now. However, I may get Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts when it comes out. I'm a big fan of platformers.

    *drum roll*

Zack and Wiki! I've been seeing so many recomendation threads with this game on it, and because it was only $20, I just couldn't resist. I hope this can last me until Mario Sluggers comes out in a month.

Looks like a long wait if you ask me. I'll probably get a third party Wii game to play over the summer. I'm looking right now as to what that will be. I've got a full load of summer classes right now, but I still need some games to play in the evenings and on the weekends! I still have a few things to unlock in Mario Kart Wii and SSBB, but once I'm done with that, I'll have to get something to hang me over until more Nintendo games are released!

After getting a glimpse at the Virtual Console section of the recent July edition of Nintendo Power, I just can't help but to shake my head at Nintendo of America. Not only did EarthBound get the top spot on the Most Wanted list by readers, but the original Mother game (yes, the one that wasn't released in the US) got SECOND PLACE above other cult classics like Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG. Unless this poll was answered by only a few fans (which I highly doubt), I see no reason for Nintendo to not transate the original Mother game (and possibly rename it for an English audience) and release it here in the states through the VC. EarthBound getting rated by the ESRB was a great first step, but Nintendo of America must really put a lot of effort into this series (this also means advertising it correctly unlike what they did to the original SNES game) in order to really bring the big sales.

I've never actually played EarthBound, but I have seen numerous videos of it on sites like Youtube, and it just intrigues me to death. As a gamer who started with the N64, I've gotten to play Ness through all 3 Smash games, but not his own game.

The potential is there. Nintendo took a big risk with the Wii and it paid off. The same will probably happen to the EarthBound series if they're willing to give it a chance.

I'm not real big on downloadable titles (I only have Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and Super Mario Bros. 3 for the VC), so I decided to spend the last of my Wii Points on a Wii Ware game: Dr. Mario. I did the classic mode for over an hour, and I definately got a brain workout. I had a headace by the time I was finished (I got over it very soon, though). I'm almost to the end of Okami. What a long game! Not that it's a bad thing. It's good to see a game that has replay value on par with Zelda. I should have reviews for both games over the next few days. After that, it's more Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

and I have mixed reactions. I love the art style of the game, even if it does makes the textures muddier. However, I'm not really fond of some controls, particularly ones you use in mini-games. The blossom mini-game with the village elder was an absolute pain, and it took me a moment to get used to that log mini-game where I had to draw vine lines. Lots of patience is required to use some of these techniques efficiently, and some people (such as myself) don't have that kind of patience. Thankfully, the enemy battles so far are very interesting, even if they're really easy. I never got damaged once by that spider queen that I fought in the forest. I suspect the difficulty to ramp up a lot as I progress, though. I'll have the full review ready once I complete the game.

Did two Grand Prix races and five matches online. The Wii Wheel is great, and I got the hang of it on manual drift after my first Grand Prix race. I like the way the online is set up, but I am a bit annoyed by the stages that some people choose. I ended up racing on Mushroom Gorge three times in a row. I kept on getting pushed around and knocked off the cliff. Not fun. I seemed like the only person online who chose courses like Mario Raceway and Luigi Raceway.

Ninja Gaiden DS: I'm almost finished with this game, and should have a review up soon. Need to beat that boss on chapter 10.

I have Mario Kart Wii reserved, plus add that to the fact that I'm going to be spending money for the birthday presents of both my little brother, and my friend down the street, and I'm going to be low on cash. I'll see if I can get it next month.

As of now, I'm on the fence with Wii Fit, so I'll wait until the reviews are out until I make my decision.

As for Ninja Gaiden DS; I did the first 3 chapters, and then quit mid-game. I've been playing a lot of SSBB lately, so I'll try to get back to Dragon Sword as soon as I can.

I'm loving it. There is just so much to unlock in this game, and the sticker/trophy count is staggering! I am a little disappointed in the online (I will discuss this in my review later), but the offline muliplayer is a blast. Even the typically single-player storyline contains co-op! I'm not exactly sure why the load times are so long in this game (especially in SSE). This is very unusual for a Nintendo game. Must be all that content cramed into a single disk.

My favorite character to play so far is ROB. It's got one of the best recoveries in the game, and is just an all out interesting character. I'm not sure why it is hated among many smash fans. Is it because it is an accessory and not an actual game character? Who knows. All I know is that its ariel manuverability gives it the advantage when chasing after a smash ball. I practically get it 80% of the time when I play online.

My favorite stage to play on has to be Luigi's Mansion. I have lots of fun tearing up that mansion by knocking opponents into it. Love it!
