Ridiculous
This is a conversation that should not even be taking place.
Am I the only one who sees that? Am I?
Read the thread.
There are just so many things on this site that need time and attention from the staff. Yet, instead, they are spending their time thinking about how to reinstate voluntarily retired editors.
Why?
Is this really necessary? How many editors will it ~actually~ affect? And is there really an editor who is SO busy that they can't check in once a week? I mean, what... is someone going to move to a mud hut in the middle of the desert where there's no internet? Really?
Even if it's necessary, it certainly isn't more important than fixing the bugs that have infested this site for years.
And that alone makes the conversation ridiculous. It should not be taking place.
More editors need to tell the staff this rather than weighing in with a yes or a no, and their ideas of how to make such a low-priority idea work.- Posted Mar 6, 2008 9:59 pm PT

Walk With Me Down Memory Lane
Last night I was tootling around on YouTube, watching videos for the J-pops that I don't get to listen to so much any more. Then I wandered into '80s territory, watching the videos for Pop! Goes My Heart from Music & Lyrics... just a model of '80s music, even though, technically, it's not. My question on this video is this: whose butt is whose?
I love this video, really, I do. That 'motorcycle move' thing that they do is priceless.
That then led me to watching some ~real~ '80s stuff, like When In Rome's The Promise, and Modern English's Melt With You, as well as the always fantastic Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode, back when Vince Clarke was with them. This video is the one that the Music & Lyrics one reminds me of. From there, I moved on to other Vince Clarke stuff, including the definitively fun Take A Chance On Me with Vince and Andy Bell in full ABBA drag.
But then it happened... I typed a band name into the search box, and I was completely surprised at the number of results. I clicked on this one and then just sat there, in shock and awe...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Wooooooooooooooooooooodddddddddddddddddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
I don't think I was breathing. Really. The Bay City Rollers. I haven't seen them, heard of them, thought of them in ages. But there they were, just as I remembered them. And I ~do~ remember them.... every word, evidently, as I sat there singing along to Rock 'n Roll Love Letter, which I haven't heard in a good 30 years or so... let's see... 2008 - 1976 = yup, 32.
Wooooooooooooooooooooodddddddddddddddddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Okay, originally, I was a Derek fan, but then switched my allegiance over to Woody, the bass player. Don't know why. Don't know why Eric's soulful baby blues didn't do anything for me, either.
And then, the song... oh, my. Wouldn't You Like It?... only available on an import disc from the UK that I saved my money to buy. The raw sexuality of it all... and I remember every word. And, of course, who could forget the one that started it all, SATURDAY Night.
I don't think I've started breathing yet. How can I? I remember buying 16 Magazine, and reading all the latest on them. The first concert I ever went to was when the BCR played at the CNE in Toronto, and I made my friend go with me... we screamed ourselves hoarse. I remember when Allan quit the group, and Ian took his place. Then Ian quit, and Pat replaced him, but by that time, their star was waning. And then someone broke into our house and stole all our records, including all my BCR albums, and when we got the insurance money, I didn't replace them.
Watching the videos again really takes me back. And, you know, they weren't so bad, really. The songs are catchy, Les was a good singer, and hey, everybody needs a little plaid in their lives!
