This is a work in progress of games I think were ended way before they should have been. As I remember games I will add them to this list and if anyone else remembers a game that they also believe was ended to soon I would like to hear because theres probably a bunch of them.
I just remember, back in the 90's there were quite a few game series that I really got into but that disappeared almost right out of the gate. Most of the games were funny in ways that we only get taste of the humor now and not the whole thing. Another games have no equal today that I know of so when the series died so did that genre. There also is the group of games that was awesome, then they made a 1 or 2 bad games they we couldn't get into and wish they keep the old game then they discared the game. Lastly, there is the games they just don't seem like the games we got hooked on in the past; like as if changing the whole game will make it so we will still buy it based on the name.
There is no order to the list and it only involves games on consoles or PC because some games have been re-released for protable play numerous times or a new game in the series is released for a portable game system so this list is just about bring back games to regular consoles or computers.
Medievil

A funny game about a "knight" who is unable to talk and uses his arm as a weapon. Only 2 games were made and the last was in 2000.
Abes (Quests)

This was a funny game about an unknown creature that trys and save his friends from slavery while others are being turned into a special drink that the antagonists drink. It is very remenistent of Flashback, were you have to solve problems/puzzles to move along in the game. Only 3 games were made and I was unaware of the 3rd because of bad plublicity.
Flashback

Much like how Abe's exodus was played, this game is all about solving puzzles. Your a future guy who is being attacked by aliens and machines. Its all in 2d side scrolling with death awaiting you everwhere. There is 3 games that I am aware of: Flashback, Fade to Black, Out of this world and Heart of Darkness which I found out about well after I gave up on the game having a sequel. Fade to black is nothing like the others games in that its fps but its continues the store and has puzzles that are reminesent of the other games.
Strike games

This series did have quite a few games before it died out but I just wish it had stayed 2 or 3 more years because the games graphics were just getting really good. In the game you take command of a Helicopter (through most of the game, sometimes a Harrier, Commanchi, Apachi, Nighthawk, etc) and try to blow up tanks, SAT sites, people, and buildings while doing missions against political figures who were in the news around the time of the games release. The series lasted from 92-98: Desert strike, Urban Strike, Soviet Strike, Jungle Strike and Nuclear Strike. No games today let you control a vehicle like that; maybe there is an I just have not heard of it.
Twisted Metal

While having not truly disappeared, this falls in the catagory of being exclusive on just the PSP now; it use to be both on the PC and PS2 ( I prefered the PC version because of the multiplayer over lan). During this game you controlled cars or motorcycles and tried to distroy other cars until you were the only one left. This list of weapons was quite small but it didn't stop it from being very replayable. The back story of every character was also a good laugh. At the end of the game you would meet up with Calypso (the main boss) and he would grant you one wish; the wish would always backfire on the winner such as "I want to be the most famous person" and Calypso would have the persons body stretched in outer space where everyone could see him/her. After beating it with one person you would want to see every ending. The games went from 95-01 and I consider TW:Black the last in the series. There may be a new one on the way but until I see it this game stay here.
Secret of Mana: RPG, finding info
Road Rash: Motorcycle racing game, finding info
Warcraft: Real Time strategy, WOW is an RPG so it doesn't count
Rampage: destroy buildings with monsters
Where is Carmon Sandiego
More to come
Games that almost never came back
Fallout

This is one of the best new games of the late 2000's. I never thought this game would be released. For the Fallout series this is right online with the greatness of the other games, while being completely different at the same time. It doesn't have the dark humor of the old games or the weirdness but it makes up for it in massiveness and beautiful graphics. The game takes place after a nuclear bomb war that sends humans underground for hundreds of years. Your an adventurer who can either be for good and try and save people or for bad and just be for yourself and never help out the people you meet along the way; this is one aspect that is much different than other games because most games force you to be good. Its a First person shooter that has a bit or RPG mixed in. The last game was released in 97 and the last was released in 05; but most of the people I know who love the series believe it was stopped in 98 after the releases of Fallout 2. The new game was released in 08.
Diablo: finding info
Starcraft
Next, I will list games I hope don't disappear and also games I believe should either be stopped or atleasted had a year or 2 in between releases (that means you Tigerwoods golf and Need for Speed)

I am wondering from the point of view of a owner of some privious Sega CD games. If any of you owned a Sega cd then you know that the games scratched easier than any other system known to man and it would be neat to be able to play those games again.
So, is it legal to download games you use to own but can't play anymore because they disc is ruined? Is it legal to download games you never owned because some games and system are not available even on ebay?
*If you believe this post is not appropriate to be posted on gamespot please let me know and I will delete it promptly. I just don't remember seeing it listed on the rules. I saw it said copyrighted Roms but I am not sure if all roms are copyrighted or even if any are.

I was in Gamestop today to buy the new Ratchet and Clank game and was talking to the clerk there about upcoming games and he told me how he wanted to get that game. Then we saw a Tony Hawk section and they have what looks like the hover board from Back to the Future 2. Its not the same colors or anything but it looks like it. Then we talked about the lego games and he said how he wanted a new Lego game to be about the Back to the future movies. I think that that would be an awesome game and the hover board is cool too.

I was playing a new PSN game and I noticed that if I beat the game there was no Platnium trophies that were offered. Anyone else notice that not all the trophies are being added to all the games. I don't have a problem with it because the developers can do what they want, its just it took me a little by surprise. Does anyone know if this has been going on a while.

First, I would like to just clarify something about being colorblind or color deficient as its sometimes called; being color blind doesn't mean you see in black and white or just shades of grey. Being colorblind, (which is about 1 in 12 men or 1 in 100+ women) is when you get shades mixed up, colors flipped, one color bleeds into another and they can't be told apart or you just have no idea what your seeing.
Imagine playing your favorite video game which happens to be a FPS (first person shooter) that takes place in the jungle. Now, your team's name is color coded primary blue which is simi easy to see in the dark green jungle; the enemies though are a nice dark color of red which makes since, since we usually assume that means evil and their armor is dark green and black. Now, the normal person would easily see that the enemy is clearly right in front of them and the moment they move they will be shot at. But, if you take someone who is colorblind and put them in the same spot, theres a good chance that they wouldn't see the name tag because the red bled into the tree color and their suits do the same; so the other team just happily walks right up to you slowly and kills you before you even saw them coming.
Example, you may see these as the nametag, armor and trees; people with red green blindness would see something like nametag, armor and trees.
FPS are not the only games where its a problem. I have noticed this in ever genre there is. In racing games, there is usually a line in the middle of the road that tells you when to speed up or slow down; we just can't see when it changes color gradually. In real time strategy games we can tell enemies from allies because light green looks like yellow and dark blue is purple. Every genre has its issues.
I bring this up because if you have played a game then you probably have seen this person before. I would even bet you laughed at them and didn't even realize this may have been the problem. For example, you were just standing there in the middle of the road next to a concrete slab in a game wearing similar clothing as the landscape when someone just ran by you and didn't even slow down. You followed them for a while then knifed the noob in the back where upon you and your friends busted up laughing, and rightly so. He/she didn't see anything other then the rather large concrete block in the road a few seconds before dieing.
I just felt this was a view that needed to be stated because there has been so many times where I'm called a noob over the mic in whatever game I was playing because of these reasons.
There's a bunch of ways this can be fixed to equal out the playing field. The easiest is just giving the player the options of what team gets what color. So, until this is fixed there is millions of people you play against that aren't noobs. I'm not complaining, I just want there to be an equal playing field in every game we play. Would you really feel good about your win if you knew you had an advantage over them before the game even started; I sure wouldn't.

So, the Greatest hero competition is going on right now. It was difficult deciding on the brackets cause there is some info I wish I had. I know gamespot is mostly made up of people who are mostly between 10-21yrs old but I wish I knew what age group there was voting. I also wish I knew what system these people use.
Another thing is that whatever game is popular or in style now will make it quite a ways and any game that may have been popular 4yrs ago or so you can pretty much count out because people may be burned out.
So, I had to go with some classic characters for some of the brackets: Mario, Link, little Mac, Kirby. Then there are characters that will be famous for quite some time: Gordon Freeman, the girl from RE, Snake, Master Chief, etc.
In the end though I had to go with two powerhouses as my final 2 Mario vs Snake. Old Nastagia who is always around with Old Nestagia who made a resent blast from the past. In the end I have Mario winning by a bit but not a tremendous amount. Who knows though, it may come down to Little Mac vs Cloud Strife. It will be awesome though, regardless.

I don't know what it is, but it seems that the only people that care about PS3 trophies are people who are on video game sites. I think they are something that all games should have but they aren't a big deal.
So earlier today I looked at my online PS3 buddies and it seems I have the most trophies but not by much. It doesn't matter at all but me with my level 6 is the highest. Most of them have between level 1-3. Then, when I come on Gamespot, I see so many people I know with level 10, 14, 20 ect. I wonder what the difference is.

After watching the first awards being awarded i noticed something similar to last years best game awardshow that I have a problem with. Last year, I believe it was last years, Orange Box won more game awards than any other game and it just got old watching them win award after award. Yes, it was a great game but don't give every award to one game; and now, Metal Gear is getting more awards than I think they should have. Yeah, its probably a great game but I think some people are voting for it just because they are into the MGS games as a whole and not just because it is a good game. Best acting, best graphics, best story line, etc, etc, ok, we get it, you love the game but a lot of us don't and we don't want it to win every award because if thats what these awards are going to be every year than maybe the gamespot awards need to end.
Maybe its just me that is getting tired of seeing this happen. The awards are not done but I am pretty sure that MGS 4 is going to win a bunch more awards that should be given to more deserving games that were available on all the platforms. I am playing Fallout 3 right now and its a fantastic game but I am not going to vote for it on every aspect because some games have better qualities in areas than it does. Sorry if this offends MGS fans out there because this isn't towards it because I would be just as angry if any game won every award.

I have found a new, horrible error with the trophy system on the PS3. The error is that when I use my other PS3 and log onto my account (I live in to difficult towns so I have one in both; one I go to school and one I visit my friends regularly) it gives me the error "Did not earn a trophy".
I think this may be to make sure that there is no fraud with the trophy system but I don't like the fact that I get punished. So now, my other PS3 doesn't earn trophies but the first one does. I have read that there are quite a few other people that have been getting this error which makes me feel better about my situation. Did not earn a trophy is a bit confusing and I kept trying until the message would say "trophy earned" needless to say that after 5 times of trying, nothing good happened.
I think maybe a error a less vague would be appriciated. Something that maybe lets me know not to retry getting that trophy but to figure out whats wrong with my accounts. Hope this error gets fixed soon.

I like to read other peoples reviews of games before I buy them to make sure I am not wasting my money but, maybe some people shouldn't write reviews. I have already discussed a few reasons why people shouldn't review games (such as they bought a game that was a genre they didn't like or they rated a 20 year old game with todays standards) but this last thing is easily the most annoying. Sadly, I may have just done it.
The worst offense to me that makes it so I won't read a review or will stop midway is a lack of respect for the reader. Heres a made up example of what I am talking about that just bugs me and it doesn't ever seem to stop because the person decided that the reader doesn't need any period or even a dang comma and I just wish the sentense would stop so I could take a breath and they never capitalize the end of a sentense the stuff continues readers can't figure out when a sentense ends or begins and the som de wurdz spelt rong. That mess right there is the biggest gripe I have about reviews. Was that difficult for you to read because it was even difficult for me to type.
Now, I am not an english major; heck, I even mess up on where a comma goes or a semi colon quite a bit. I just want to be able to read reviews without getting confused. Or, maybe they just need to try and read their own work before submitting.

Gamespot has certain emblems that just don't make sense or are just impossible to obtain. One of those in question is the aficionado ones. It says you need to have under 101 games and 50% are in a certain gaming console. Are they kidding me? Either I don't list games I own or just make stuff up. It should be something more feasible like having atleast 50+ games in one console because I had over a hundred games by 1995.
Another emblem I have no respect for that I would like but doubt I will obtain is the one where you need a average gamespot game rating of 8.6. That would be possible if some of the great games I own were actually rated (sim city 2000, super mario, tetris, dragon warrior). Tons of my games are prior to late 1990's so gamespot didn't rate them and others are on consoles/systems that gamespot doesn't rate (mac, other).
It is entertaining to know that I own nearly $10,000 in games and system and payed for less than a quarter of that because of handme downs or someone just let me come over and play it so much it was practically mine.

I was searching around the internet trying to figure out when the memberships started for gamespot. I know I registered not too long after it was initiated, was it a year, I don't know, probably. I remember before you had to register; the only reason I registered years ago was because you had to register to view videos (this was before easy to access videos of everything like from Youtube) and a few other restricted stuff.
Anyone else remember when this site had a mascot of a dog? I think that it did and that I am not getting it mixed up with another site from the late 90's. Man this site has changed.

Well the Gamespot Scavenger hunt is over and it was more difficult than it should have been. Trying to find an item that has the exact item you are looking for with a gamespot logo on it was near impossible for most items to find. Thankfully we were given 3 or so days to look for the stuff. If you were one of the few who played the Wii and a PC this would have been pretty easy because that is where I found most of my items by random luck. Being that I own a PS3 that didn't help my search much. Anyone else have difficulty on it? I thought the devil and the tombstone were the most difficult items to find and the skeleton and hotdog were easy. All I know is that it took me up until the last few minutes to get it all finished. If there is no emblem for doing that I am going to be disapointed.

24Oct 08Trophies have been out for a while for the PS3 and I haven't noticed many trophies around. Actually, I wouldn't even know a trophy if I saw one and they I wasn't told thats what it was. Me and everyone in my friends list are without trophies. From what I have seen, all my past games don't have trophies associated with them. So, either Sony needs to get more companies involved in it or maybe not even use it. I don't like having only some of my games supported and others not.

I have been playing a lot of Call of Duty 4 since it came out and find that I am a good player as long as I am using mycontrols. If I switch to my friends controls it takes me too long to figure out how to play. One example is that my friends will switch two buttons on the controller setup and if I use their character I can't instinctively just use the control as is; my mind is too use to the old control and I am fighting intuitive thought on how to play but i would eventually be able to change.
One thing I don't know if I would be able to change is from normal to inverted look. I have looked all over as to why people use one way or another without many good answers. i have found a bunch of personal reasons why but those only make sense if that is your way of playing. One example is that people who use inverted say that they think of the controller as the back of the head and if they are push forward they look down and vise a versa. Well, thats great, I don't think of it that way. I just view myself as the person playing and if he wants to look up i point up; but that example doesn't work for everyone.
But, it gets weirder as we go to other games because my taste of control changes depending on my distance from the person. If I am first person, than its normal; 2nd person than its inverted; planes its inverted; unless I am using a mouse than my first person with a mouse can be inverted. I have seen others opinions on this and they are opposite of mypreferences. How or what would have caused this? A few friends and I have been playing the same games forever and we all play differently.
I can't say this is done by any certain game because yeah I played flight simulator but I also played first person shooters. It doesn't matter to me whichoptionyou choose; I just think all these need to be in games. I remember as game recently (Ghost Recon 2) and the control setup was so backwards from what I was use to that it took me weeks of playing to finally not suck; it should have just had theoptionto have a controller setup that I liked.
Maybe I am the only person that cares about this but I am just curious why we all don't play the games the same.

2Aug 08Just got my first suspension from the site a day ago and I gotta tell ya, its quitesurprising. I don't know how many of you out there have had the terms of use suspension before but I didn't see it coming. The problem was that I didn't even know that I had said something bad. I am still extremelycautiouswhen I type now. I have seen quite a few people get introuble more over the past year than I have in all the other years combined.

Games now have what appears to be everything we could want in them: graphics, gameplay, storyline, etc. There also is a ton of systems to play these on: xbox, pc, mac, wii, ps3. With all these games and systems you would think every aspect of gaming was being utilized. There just isn't many games worth watching other people play though. I haven't seen a game that is fun to just sit back with other people, have a few drinks and watch the game.
I just hope this wasn't something that just my friends and I use to do because that would be sad for everyone else. Some of the best games I remember either playing or watching was FF2, FF3, FF7, Dune for Sega CD, Dragon Warrior, Fallout, Everquest, Doom. There is a few games now that are, but they are far and few between such as COD4 and the Lego games but thats about it. The 2 prior generations seemed to have so many more of these games.
I don't know if they even can test for this in games. I do know that after watching one of the games you have a better chance of buying the next game. So, maybe this should be companies R&D because I didn't always want to buy the first version of a game but I might if I watched someone else. If a game is good enough to watch someone else play, then its sure as hell is good enough for me to buy. And if you noticed, the games that we found great to watch, for the most part became some of the most well known games ever.

People need to get off their high horse about stealing and copying. Sony just released the update 2.4 with the Trophies feature. Already, lots of M$ people are calling foul because Sony supposedly stole that feature from the Xbox. Seriously, this is from people in association with a company that has a clean slate of not stealing? That could be true if MS hadn't stolen from Apple, Real Player, Netscape, and countless other companies. I may not be excited about trophies but I don't think they have any room to talk.
This was not meant to be bashing of Microsoft because they are in fact the people that came up with the ideas first so thankfully they did because a lot of Sony fans love trophies.

Talk about a genre that has been way over extended.
I don't know how many of you play first person shooters out there but I became a big fan back in the mid 90's. I remember this awesome game called Doom and Pathways into Darkness. Pathways was my favorite because you picked up real weapons set in the 30's to 40's. It was supposedly about a Nazi who was searching an old pyramid and finds aliens and other things. Wolvenstein was just this game but in a different environment. That was back when these categories were new. World War 2 games also were a new avenue to try.
Now, it is completely different. Every game company makes WW2 first person shooters. I am pretty sure the company pet even puts out his own FPS WW2 with expansions. Ok, maybe not every one but it sure seems like it. COD4 came out after a plethora of expansions and other Call of Duty games that were WW2 and Medal Of Honors type games and it did phenomenal because I think people are just tired of these. I am not saying I don't like World War 2 because that would be wrong. I watch about it all the time on the History Channel, movies like the Great Escape are my favorite movies, books about it are cool to but I just don't want every first person shooter to be located during it. I am at the point I get excited when a game is located anywhere else at any time; heck, even a game set during the World War 1 were you spend the entire game in a trench with a 1911 .45 sounds more entertaining.
I wrote this blog because COD 5 will be based in World War 2 times and so I probably won't play it. Please companies, pick a new era to set your game in besides late 30's to mid-late 40's. Do you think we want all race games to have the same track and same 3 companies cars; or only 1 variety or sports game; or all RPG's to be set in midevil times with dragons. No! We get variety with them, why can't FPS fallow suit?
*There is number of FPS that are set in different times but the majority is not*
