King's Quest Is Back???
A long time ago, at a company not so very far away, a company called Sierra-Online was the undisputed heavyweight champ of the Adventure Game genre creating such classic series as the King's Quest, Quest for Glory, Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, and many, many more. These glory days were awesome for hard core Adventure gamers like myself. However, the years have not been kind to the Adventure genre and it is now pretty much a niche market, with just a few standouts here and there over the years like The Longest Journey published by Funcom, and Syberia by Microids.
With Adventure gaming pretty much stagnant, I was very excited to recently read on Penny-Arcade that there is a group of fans working on a user created King's Quest called King's Quest IX: The Silver Lining. It is actually supposed to be a trilogy of games coming out over the next few years and it is actually looking pretty cool, very King's Quest-esque! (See the pics below)
Even more exciting is the fact that Sierra's new overlord, Vivendi Universal Games, has decided to go ahead and let the project proceed! There was some legal negotiating and some give and take, I am sure. However, the rhetoric from the announcement they gave was pretty positive:
"After extensive evaluation, Vivendi Universal Games is pleased to announce that the fan developed trilogy project 'The Silver Lining' (previously known as King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining), based on characters from Sierra Entertainment's 'Kings Quest' series, has been given approval to continue development. We look forward to seeing the first of its three upcoming chapters, 'Shadows', completed soon."
That is just pretty darn cool, and I am now looking forward to some more King's Quest!

Ebay making bank on the 360
So, I guess the people over on Ebay are making tons of money on re-selling Xbox 360's. I mean if the numbers are correct, 10% of all Xboxes in North America have made their way through the auction house. That is pretty darn significant.
This really shows that people were willing to spend a lot more for a 360 than Microsoft set the selling price for. So it makes you wonder what they could have charged and gotten away with seeing as hardware always is a losing part of the business for consoles. I think they easily could have charged another $100 and still sold out, then dropped the price to its current pricing in like a month or two for those of use waiting to get them.
This could be a new trend of "early adopter tax". The people who need something like a 360 or an iPod on the first day can do so at a bit of a premium, then a few months later drop the price to what you normally would have charged at launch. Something for the bean counters at Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to think about perhaps.
Anyway, I am still waiting. I probably will get my 360 after the first of the year. In the meantime, I just bought a PS2 and I am going to play a ton of games I was unable to play on my Xbox.
Final Fantasy here I come!
