    Venting: School

The following is just venting, I doubt anyone will read this, and frankly I don't care. I just had to write down some of my thoughts about school. With all of the things wrong with the Ontario School system, it's almost impossible to not rant for hours. Oh and to make sure this rant makes sense: my birthday on the site is incorrect.

I suppose the majority of my complaints with school stem from math. Anyone reading this would automatically think "oh, he's just complaining because he's upset with his math mark," right? Well yes and no. I am upset with it, but that was only the final straw that made me vent about the subject. In Ontario, my brother's age group was the last year to have OAC, meaning the last year of the "old curriculum." Now high school only goes to grade 12. This seems fine right? More workers in the field earlier, and school is much more challenging, right? Well it's definitely more challenging, but how come all of the work gets dumped on the students, who have the hardest time in school? Any time the teachers have to do more work, there's practically rioting in the streets. Teachers complained when they had to teach 3 subjects per semester, and their Union organized them to stop coaching after-school sports. Boo-f***ing-hoo, you only work a few hours a day: with weekends, school holidays, and summer vacations off. But what does this have to do with my argument? It's that even though teachers get all this time off, they don't even do a very good at their jobs when they do have to "work." God forbid I ask a teacher to give me an updated copy of my math mark, because that would require them to reach for the print button on their god damn printer. I have at least 2 teachers per semester that complain about the work load they have.

But wait: wasn't it me that had to DO the culminating project for the course, only to find that you took off marks for "mistakes" on my work but not for the same mistakes on others' work? Wait, didn't I ask you about this, only to receive some bulls*** excuse? Weren't you teaching me 2 entirely new concepts rather than helping me review on the last day of ADVANCED FUNCTIONS AND RELATIONS MATH?! Yes, all of the above is true, and yes, if I hadn't already written so much I would give more examples. All of this, and you won't even update my mark and give me a copy so I can see how badly you're screwing me over. Awesome. I suppose I should be really thrilled that my future lies partially in your lazy, incapable hands.

The only teacher that I encountered this past semester with any work ethic at all is hell-bent on sabotaging the lives of school children, so that she may be remembered as the most feared teacher in our schools history. The preceding statement is 100% true. This hideous spawn of Satan has no PhD, and yet claims that she has taught at the University level. Of course, any teach who flat out lies in this way is guaranteed to use the worst fallacy in school: "this is all in preparation for University." Who are they trying to fool? I have two siblings and 4 cousins enrolled in 3 different Universities in Ontario, and they can all vouch for how often this statement is a lie. For example: writing an essay in English. Every year in high school, a new teacher will teach you a new method of writing a literary (or comparitive) essay, and each will tell you that you will use their method all through University. Which is correct? None. They are all wrong. When you get to University, and you write one of the 4-5 formats of an essay, which includes an intro, 3 body paragraphs, and conclusion, you will receive a 50% on your essay, and be left to cry about it. Getting back to this horrible monstrosity of a teacher, who claims that she is preparing us for University. A fellow student of mine has two uncles who are mathematicians, and when they were shown some of the tests given by this teacher, they both agreed it was two difficult for students my age. But of course, thanks to the laziness of the other teachers and her ambition to be hated: she single-handedly wrote the final in class exam and the final exam. Total percent of final mark these two exams were worth: 30. I know students in my class who had 95%+ in math, and they literally failed the final two exams.

It's a good thing that parabolas, imaginary numbers, trigonomic transformations, and the interesecting point of an ellipse + a linear equation are useful to someone in business, because I'll have to take 2 extra maths next year to do so. No, ignore the fact that I received 90's in my business course last year, and am now doing well (although I don't know the exact number, once again because I can't get an updated mark from any teachers) in my economics and accounting courses. Who needs economics and accounting in business when they know how to move a trigonomic equation around a sheet of graph paper? If that statement didn't sink in, repeat it again out loud. Perhaps that's the problem: some things (such as spelling to correct a speech or other writing) can only be truly understood and fixed when said aloud. And parents wonder why teens idolize singers, rapper, and other celebrities. I'll spell it out for you: here are people who beat the system that they suffer through (because nobody in power does anything about it) and still become rich beyond their wildest dreams.

But of course, what can one do? I've told my parents so many times it makes me sick what goes on in schools. Their response: everybody has to go through it. Is this some sort of sick, tasteless joke? In fact, that sort of mentality is so stupid, neh, retarded that only the the incompetent majority of voters of Ontario would vote for Dalton Mcguinty, who's only kept promises are in support of the teachers and their corrupt Union. Hey, while we're at it, why don't we inflict unnecessary pain on ourselves while we're at it, because everybody has to go through it right? It's so scary for older generations to think that we'll be running the country one day, right? Well you should be far more afraid that you're doing as little as humanly possible to prepare us for the monumental task.

The Following People Piss Me Off (Part I)

1)The "Girlfriend's Clingy Friend": The person who never knows when it's time to leave, no matter how awkward things are with them around. I'll give you a hint, it's a personal conversation, my girlfriend doesn't even really like you anyway. It's getting tiresome. You were trying to get my girlfriend away from me at FORMAL. It's so obvious you're jealous because Satan's son wouldn't date you, why can't you just let us be less miserable than you? You really piss me off!

2)The "Hooligan": Soccer...it's boring, it's painful to watch, it's painful to hear about, its players are all **** it's...the most popular sport in the world? What were you thinking when you made soccer your "religion"? I don't doubt that you could kick my ass, but why are you worshipping a guy you takes a dive if he feels the slighest touch in soccer? It doesn't make sense to me why you feel compelled to start a riot, and trample people simply because they aren't as psycho as you about the sport. It doesn't make sense to me why you brag about how you're spending $4000 to fly to the 2006 World Cup, to watch the most boring sport ever invented. Why don't you try doing something more meaningful with your life? You really piss me off!

    3) The "Backseat of the Anti-Bush Bandwagon": This is mostly for non-Americans (especially here in Canada), but I'm sure there are a few in the good ole U.S of A that fit into this category. Shut up. Just shut up. You don't know what you're talking about, so don't pretend to. I bet you thought you were really cool by saying "I hate George Bush...bla bla bla...war is bad...bla bla bla". That may be true, but leave it to people who actually understand what they're talking about. If you have nothing to say to me when I ask you why you hate George Bush, other than "he's an idiot" or simply "because", then do the world a favour and shut up. You really piss me off!
