I feel that the new racing games (Forza 2, DiRT, ect) are over looking some very important aspects of gaming. I am of course talking about drifting. Both Forza 2 and DiRT have drifting, but it feels lacking and unsatisfying. Games like Burnout and Ridge Racer, though not great games, have phenomenal drifting. Both allow gamers to drift and regain control without sacrificing speed. In Forza 2 and DiRT, the drifting impacts the speed more than crashing into the wall. Also, all racing games lack the sense of speed. The motion blur does nothing, going at 200 MPH feels more like 50. Next time you are riding in a car, look outside. You will note that every stationary object wiz passed you. Not in video games. In video games, you are lucky if you can get a stationary object to even pass you.
Gaming has evolved so much over the years. Just doing a side by side comparison of DOOM to Shadowrun (just cause it is the newest FPS), one will note huge differences in not only graphics, but the actual abilities of the games. Back in the day, there was no dual stick, it was only analog. Also, the player could not look up nor down, this has all change. Now adays, games can support so much physics. Before, only a few enemies could be shown without crashing, and the rendering of physics was under par. Reloading was not shown, it was implied, and no real animations were done when death occurred. I enjoy old school games as much as the next guy, but I feel that we should stop making old games into new ones. I.e. DOOM, Pac Man...(Arcade games and other downloadable games brought to us by 360, PS3, and Wii). I think that we should put all the oldies together and put them on one website were gamers can play them for a small monthly fee. If only someone would do that... Oh wait, someone did, it is called Gametap. Stop corrupting the Next-gen gaming with old school games! Now, I understand that some people think that I am cruel, but I grew up with these games, and I got to tell you, they were awful. Pac Man was never fun, and fighters like Street Fighter were and still are god awful.
The original Xbox's online was very weak. It was very hard to keep track of your friends and with the new 360, you can talk to your friends regardless of what game they play. Games now come with two choices for online play: Player Match and Ranked Match. You can then choose from Quick Match or Custom Match. This new system simplifies online play and allows gamers to get in a match much quicker. However, some games do not work this way. Halo 3 and Shadowrun still stick with the old way of "Matchmaking," which is very outdated. It limits your options, and the party system is no longer needed because of the new Private slots and the 360 Guide. This system also has another huge flaw in it; it can cause unbearable wait times. Other games have the new system for online play; however, they ruined it by adding a waiting lobby. I am of course referring to GRAW, in which you MUST wait forever in a lobby. The timing varies, but, on average, you must wait five to ten minutes, if not more. Games like Lostplanet also have lobbies; however, you cannot enter on if a game is in cession, so the wait time is cut down. Gears of War also requires you to wait, but the average match last only two minutes. Halo 3 and Shadowrun are both great games, but if they do not change to the new system, they will become obsolete. (Maybe not Halo 3 because so many people are insane over it)
