Sonic Boom
So... Stuff is leaking out about Sonic Unleashed. The leaked images and rumored premise are just as iffy as ever these days (if not moreso), but the video? The video seems to show a "2.5D" experience with crisp, 3D visuals but oh-so-retro 2D Sonic gamplay that's just about the speed and going through crazy courses... And if that's what it is, than that's the best idea Sonic Team has had in the past decade... Shame the fans had it long before they did. Well, unless Sonic Rush on the DS counts.
I just have to keep muttering to myself, "Don't get excited about a Sonic game... Don't get excited about a Sonic game..." If anybody will find a way to let me down, it's Sonic Team. Last year's (or was it '06's?) "Sonic the Hedgehog" on the 360 and PS3 still has an awful taste in my mouth.
On the other hand, Sonic and the Secret Rings on the Wii was alright, and as crazy as it is, playing as Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Brawl really has me itching to see my old hero back on top of the world. Please, Sega... Do something right this time.- Posted Mar 25, 2008 2:00 pm PT

Catching Up
It's been awhile since I've posted here... Whoops.
Mostly I've been doing a heck of a lot of posting over at BrittonPeele.com, 'cuz you know... That's how it is.
But I said I'd continue to post some game-related stuff here, and I've been remiss. My apologies. So below I'm linking to some of my recent Daily Toreador columns, going down from newest to oldest, all game related. Read 'em or don't! It's totally your call.

Ryan Davis Leaves GameSpot
For this blog entry, I could choose between the news of Bobby Knight resigning (which I heard about here on campus a couple of hours ago, when someone shouted over dinner, "BOBBY KNIGHT QUIT?!?"), or something I know (and care) a lot more about:
Ryan Davis has announced that he will be leaving GameSpot.com after January 14th ("Happy Valentimes!"). He follows Frank Provo and Alex Navarro in the wake of the extremely controversial firing of Jeff Gerstmann.
He's really the last of the greats over at GameSpot, in a way. I mean, Ricardo is way cool (and now in charge of more things), and Ryan Mcdonald is great... But a ton of the "fan favorites" are gone now. Greg at least left for greener pastures at EA, but with Jeff unfairly terminated and Alex and Ryan walking out in protest, we can't say the same for them.
Bye, Ryan. You'll be greatly missed. You AND Ron Graphite.- Posted Feb 4, 2008 6:23 pm PT
