So I just hit GameSpot level 34 or "Paramecium." While I mulled over how it feels to hold this single-celledrank, I wandered over to Wikipedia to find out all about Paramecia.
I'm glad that the Level Guide thread in Welcome Newbies tells me about the game reference:

| Level 34 - Paramecium - I believe this is from Forgotten Worlds for the Turbografx-16. At the end of a stage, your character proclaims, "You cannot stop me with paramecium alone!" Apparently it also appeared in Aero Fighters 2 for the NeoGeo. |
The headband is what we call that promotional unit that appears at the top of the site that we use to promote major events, like our live video shows, tournaments, betas, and special news or events.
Today, we rolled out the first new mini-headband, designed to complement the new three-across content promotions added to the navigation last week. It promotes the same cool stuff as the headband, but on the pages (gamespaces and story pages) where the new nav appears. It's on a 10-second cycle where it appears then slides away to reveal the three top content items of the moment. If you close the headband, the mini-headband will close as well.
It's pretty different from what we had before (especially the animation and timing), so I consider this a public proof of concept test, and we'll work to refine it based on feedback. Thoughts?
Another week, another site enhancement. Today we made some noticeable changes to the site navigation, including a new three-item promotional area for showcasing the newest, hottest content. More details in this Site Enhancements topic.
It's so cool to be watching the Fallout 3 trailer at 640x360 in the new GameSpot video player.
Lots of details here from Craig on what's new.
