After my latest visit this weekend in Raccon City Police Department and playthrough of Claire A scenario, I can tell you for a fact that people are still playing and enjoying Resident Evil 2, not because of nostalgia, but normally, as they would play any today's game. I spent many hours in the internet searching for information and opinions about RE 2. People still post walkthroughs/playthroughs on YouTube, they still watch in big numbers videos of the game, discuss about it, compare it with RE 3, ask questions how to unlock extra costumes, how to beat the B scenarios of each character... I'm amazed and pleasantly surprised. In an age of cheap games and poor taste, classic values win.

Resident Evil 2 stands not only as the best Resident Evil game :) It's a classic and one of the best games ever too :D

A new generation of kids are now discovering those timeless classics perhaps. Or maybe us old school gamers are still loving the genuine fun to be had playing them. I got the original RE on PS years ago and beat it (with no memory card). RE 2 was really great too. I bought RE3 on day 1 for 79 bucks plus tax before video games had a cap on their pricing. Then I bought a Dreamcast and played code veronica on that. nowadays, i own them all except for revelations 3ds. I believe that RE2 set the standard at the time for what made up a winning game. They had a good formula back then, not the watered down run of the mill shoot and cover style games of today. Although having the ability to shoot and move at the same time is kinda cool I must say!

@HybridExtreme RE 1 with no memory card? Chapeau! I still haven't finished the game, it's in my plans though to give it one more try. I had played the Remake and after some point zombies resurrected with even more HP and they are really vicious, that's where I usually quit..I hope in the original Playstation version they don't resurrect. Please tell me that they don't resurrect. :-) But anyway that was a long time ago, now after all the experience that I gained from RE 2, RE 3 and RE Code Veronica X, I'm confident that I can do better, at least now I know better how to play properly a Resident Evil game.

Shoot and move at the same time is a good idea indeed, from the time of Dino Crisis I remember. In Resident Evil series it was applied too late only in RE 5, I don't know about RE 6.

Its still a fantastic game, i just re-played it on PSN a year ago or so. The dual shock version felt a lot better too compared to how i remembered the standard version

Resident Evil 2 still stands as my favorite RE game, and one of my favorite games in general. Yeah, some of the other RE games did this or that better, but as a complete package for when it was released I feel RE2 was a great accomplishment. While not the series' mechanical peak, I feel it was the peak of the formula that made so many fall in love with the series.

@KingOfOldSkool My first contact with RE 2 was a difficut one: I thought this game was a bit too scary for me and didn't want to replay it. Even that cover box with the zombie in black & white was upsetting me to look at it. At that time I prefered the "milder" Silent Hill style instead. A few years later I played RE Code Veronica X and loved it and in a way I rediscovered the series, so being more mature as a gamer I decided to go back to the original survival horror games, like RE 2 and RE 3 and stayed there for ever. :-)

I'm with johnsteed7. If a game is good enough, it never gets "old" or "dated". I'm still very tempted to replace my old PSP just to re-download and re-play alotta PS1 greats from my PSN account. RE2 being chief among them.

Of course, that flies in the face of many a tech-heads' sensibilities: moar power, moar graphics, more hardware!

@nate1222  That's a very good idea. Myself I have transfered to a 8GB memory card all the PS1 classics from the PSN that I could fit into one card. I have played and finished with this way Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, and half of Tomb Raider. They look great on the PSP screen! :-)

@matastig Yeah RE 3 was probably the peak of the series because it uses creatively all the previous experience from the first two RE games and Dino Crisis.

That's very interesting news about the RE 2 remake. Just tell me what they need me to do to show my support and I will do it. :-))
