The Family Video Game Advisory Corporation has shocked many people with their advisories this week. While their decision not to give any video game their stamp of approval was to be expected, one of their choices to recieve their "Seal of Condemnation" was truly shocking, "Billy Goes To Bible Camp".
In their statement of condemnation, FVGAC spokesman Ned Flanders said, "This game seems sweet and innocent, but, just like every other video game on the market, this title has graphic sex and violence from the first image to the last." The FVGAC advised that parents not only boycott this title, but boycott all stores that sell it, and the people that work therin.
The Wholesome Christian Video Game Company, who published "Billy Goes To Bible Camp", released a statement yesterday. Shawn Michaels, spokesman for the company said, "We realise that video game violence is a concern for many parents buying video games for their children. Rather than just complaining about it, we chose to give the gaming public another choice in the marketplace. We made a concerned effort in the development of "Billy Goes To Bible Camp" to ensure that it is 100% violence free. "Billy Goes To Bible Camp" is a wholesome, purem and enjoyable way for gamers to get in touch with the gospel, and their savior Jesus Christ." Later in the statement, the WCVGC said that not only had they never heard of the FVGAC, but they had not been contacted by them about recieving a free, full copy of their yet to be released game, a request they would've happily fufilled. They also alledge the FVGAC based their comments on "the small and very limited information they have released on their current project."
The FVGAC shot back, saying the WCVGC was "a group of pathetic, grotesque, heathenistic lyars." They also said, "It is wrong to manipulate the gospel and the image of our lord and savior with paper thin lies, and baseless innuendo." Then the FVGAC advised "all within the sound of their voices" against the other projects WCVGC is currently working on. The projects include "Billy Goes To Sunday School", "Billy Goes On A African Mission", and "Billy's First Communion".
Contraversey may be a good thing for this young game company, because "Billy Goes To Bible Camp" is now one of the best selling games on Amazon.com. Its ranked number two, wedged between the action platformer "Chainsaw Seal Bloodbath", and the epic fishing simulator "Whale Harvester".
