All About PythiaArgead

So I finished the XBOX 360 - Old Spice Challenge

Given the difficulties involved in signing up for the challenge, I didn't think I would get a chance at it.  I was finally able to subscribe on the 14th of February and immediately set out to raise my score by 1,500.  I am a sucker for achievements and Microsoft's strategy surrounding them has been ingenious so far.  However, they must do something about game achievements that are soo easy you can rent a title and finish them all in a day or two.

My current Xbox 360 collection sits at a bit over 50 games so I had plenty of options to choose from.  I started out with playing Battlestations Midway and completed the Naval Academy Missions for a quick 40.  I then went on to Eragon (a bad movie with a barely passable game) to score another 960.  I rounded it out by doing some quick achievements in NHL 2K6 (550 points in 5 minutes).

It took about 1 hour for the rewards profile to update my correct total so that I could mark the challenge as completed.  It turns out that they will only award 2,500 copies of Fusion Frenzy 2 (A game they would have to give away for free to get most people to play) and the same amount of the T-Shirts.

I will not ever argue over FREE rewards.  I think that the entire pakcage (200 Microsoft Points , Contra for the XBLA, The gamer picture, Fusion Frenzy 2 and the T-shirt is a nice combonation).  However, odds are that most people have purchased Contra already (like I have).  I would have prefered to see the option to download a XBLA Game of your choice instead of a set game like that.

I think in the end that the majority of the gamers who complete the challenge on level 3 will likely get the points , contra and the gamer picture which isn't all that bad.  At the very least, the 200 points can be used to purchased a theme or gamer pictures of substance.

All in all not a bad first attempt by Microsoft.

However, to put it in perspective:

If we are to believe that 10.4 Million Xbox 360's have been sold (assuming everyone is on XBL - which we know is not true) the 2,500 number for Fusion Frenzy and the T-shirt makes the reward only accessible to 1% of 360 Owners.  I am not sure if this is a bad or good thing.

We will find out in April, when the challenge is completed.
