A possible solution to having to pay for DLC?
After reading the comments for the "Under Review" page for "Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage", I noticed that quite a few people were whining about how much it would cost, me included. This has made an idea that I got resurface.
I'm sure that nearly all of us hate product placements in games. What would be nice is for product placements to actually do something productive: lowering the price of DLC.
Product placements and advertisements usually provide some serious income for developers. Developers working under EA have taken full advantage of this. What do we, as in the consumers, get in return? Close to nothing. There are a few exceptions, though. In Burnout Paradise and Battlefield: Bad Company, I'm sure that in-game advertising paid for that free DLC.
I wish that more developers would do something like that. I'm sure that you wouldn't mind if the developers put advertisements in the loading screens if you got cheaper, or even free, DLC.
I just wouldn't want it to be used in such a way that it would totally destroy immersion. Let's say that they used this in Oblivion. That really wouldn't work. You're out in the wild, walking down a road, exploring. All you see are trees, mountains, and the occasional deer... Oh, and a billboard advertising Viagra. No thank you.
But in more modern games there a plenty of opportunities for advertisements. Billboards, product placements, banners in loading screens, etc.
And that's it. Yeah, it's short. Oh well.
